When I came to New York from West Africa in the late 70’s I bought a Steely Dan album in Manhattan on a hunch. The rest is history. One of the best band ever!😄❤
You are clearly a man of taste and discernment, sir. I'm 73 and I followed the Dan from the beginning. I'm an audiophile and I played them on first class gear. Their production values were always immaculate.
I'm 51 years of age and I still believe that steely Dan is one of the very "BEST" bands.Yet,I just wish they would show more of their "handsome" faces when showing their videos.
Totally agree, Holly. They are number 1 in my book! Loved them back in the day, still lovin’ them now! Their concerts are fabulous. Really miss Walter, may he Rest In Peace! It matters not, Holly, how old we are, good music is good music, always! (And I’m 20 years older than you.)
@@timothyshearer8389 I introduced Steely Dan to my friends in high school. In the early 1980s. We had to wait 16 years to see Steely Dan in concert. It was well worth the wait, I might add.
I’m so glad I grew up on Steely Dan. My first tape I ever bought when I was 15 yo. Man his greatest hits were just that! Greatest. Then decades later, pure perfection with the added extended version.
Guy in the record store that knew me, gave me a nudge, and said “I think you’ll enjoy this album.” He was right, years later I’m still listening to Steely Dan. Great band.
Even this cut is too short. You could load an old woody station wagon with 8 people ranging from age 15 to 75 and they'd all be jamming to this extraordinary rock classic.
My older sister turned me on to all classic rock songs...RIP Barbara Ann..she passed last year 61 no illness. Thank you Barb for introducing this fantastic band ❤🎉😢

I was maybe 8 yrs old when I heard this. Heard it in a shopping mall while walking past a lounge. The lounge was dimly lit... smoky... just had folks hanging out having a drink. When I heard it I immediately loved it. Back then, dam near everything on the radio was a work of art. Good times !!
Love ❤️ your music. I’m a child of the 70’s. There’s no music that competes to what you have created. May you live as long as you want. And may you never want as long as you live.
This is such a haunting song. For me, it put's my mind straight back into the darkest part of the 1970's. The raw Vegas gangster feel contrasts with the striving for decent values and good vibrations that Gerry Rafferty seemed to evoke.
Steely Dan - Do It Again In the mornin' you go gunnin' For the man who stole your water And you fire till he is done in But they catch you at the border And the mourners are all singin' As they drag you by your feet But the hangman isn't hangin' And they put you on the street You go back, jack, do it again Wheel turning 'round and 'round You go back, jack, do it again When you know she's no high climber Then you find your only friend In a room with your two timer And you're sure you're near the end Then you love a little wild one And she brings you only sorrow All the time you know she's smilin' You'll be on your knees tomorrow, yeah You go back, jack, do it again Wheel turning 'round and 'round You go back, jack, do it again Now you swear and kick and beg us That you're not a gamblin' man Then you find you're back in vegas With a handle in your hand Your black cards can make you money So you hide them when you're able In the land of milk and honey You must put them on the table You go back, jack, do it again Wheels turning 'round and 'round You go back, jack, do it again Donald Fagen / Walter Becker
One of my favorite groups since 1972. Fagan,Becker and Katz created some awesome music that scanned all genres 🎶 Didn’t know Fagan , Becker and Chevy Chase worked in group together. Keep rockin Donald Fagan.
They used the best session musicians and singers available Jeff Porcaro Michael Mcdonald bloody loads of em search out the albums and read the sleeve notes you would be so surprised and amazed also check out a covers tribute band named Stealing Dan they do a good job and enjoy the music

One of my favorite piece's of music. When my parents were out, I'd crank this up on our stereo. If it came on the radio, my friends and I would belt this one out as loud as we could. Still holds up.
Me too. Was a camp counselor in the summer of 1974, and the radio played "Ricky don't loose that number" many many times a day, and I loved that special music style. Still do, I listen to them a lot on RUclips 🙂
@@misstelsten So good, he sido seguidor preferente del Rock Progresivo Britanico o Europeo desde los años 70`s y los grupos americanos del momento incluyendo Steely Dan.....RUclips ha sido lo mejor que nos ha sucedido en estos tiempos para escuchar y relajarnos con la musica que nos gusta.......las presentaciones de Steely Dan en concierto son excelentes, son profesionales....aun conservo algunos discos de vinil y mi coleccion de musica en cassette....Thank you Tom
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to the end of the Vietnam War when dad worked at WABD across from the main gate of Ft. Campbell. I was just about 5 years old but I remember all of it. Those Soldiers impressed me and I finally became one in 1988. Mom and dad were hippies so they didn’t like it. I’m retired from the army in 2024 and mom’s in an old folks home and dad still doesn’t talk to me. Life is good though, my wife is 38 and we have a fine 9 year old son and we love and depend on one another. 🇺🇸

Great hunch!
Simply the most sophisticated band of all time...
Yes a Huge Donald Fagen fan. ❤Very Skilled Musicians difficult to find today 2024.
I can say thank you to my brother for getting to listen to Steely Dan. Thanks Brother!!!
Ditto what the other guy said. Rolling Stone called them "the thinking man's band" way back in the 70s
@@timothyshearer8389 I introduced Steely Dan to my friends in high school. In the early 1980s. We had to wait 16 years to see Steely Dan in concert. It was well worth the wait, I might add.
Yes Holly and this is a top song.
I agree sweet Charlotte
I love the fact that there are no "Thumbs down" on all these comments. Proof that it's so easy to get along with our fellow humans
Wow that's awesome, I didn't see that!!
This version I have not heard. Thanks for putting it out there. I've always enjoyed the Dan
I'm 64 and I'm rocking to this song right now oh man the memory Damn miss those days 🙂
The simple days
Me too
I am 66 I miss
I'm here in 2024. It sounds good today as it did when I first heard it. Classic😊
Don't really understand their music but love it.young people can't understand why we think their music is crap, listen to this band.
Just like our parents didn't like this type of music when we were young. It's evolution
@@rogerwilco4736This song speaks volumes about life the universe and everything
I’m so glad I grew up on Steely Dan. My first tape I ever bought when I was 15 yo. Man his greatest hits were just that! Greatest. Then decades later, pure perfection with the added extended version.
One of the works from the gold’s era of geniuses!
😂😂😂 Yep, I'm 71 and still enjoying as much as the first time I heard it!
Absolutely!!!!! 😁 Early 60's here!
My older sister turned me on to all classic rock songs...RIP Barbara Ann..she passed last year 61 no illness. Thank you Barb for introducing this fantastic band
❤🎉😢
You will always remember Barbara Ann again and again each time you hear this as she silently whispers in your ear play it again and again…
@@ncavlleguy fabulous band. Thank you for that beautiful comment ❤️
Have loved this forever…can’t get enough..so the extension is so appreciated..🇨🇦
Rock classic that spans decades of listening pleasure to the masses! Brings back great memories of the 70's!
I’ll Rest In Peace knowing I’ve taken the best music with me to my demise!
Eloquently put - take it into the next life..

Donald Fagan, Steely Dan, here we go!!!! Back in the day, in the 70s.
65 and remember hearing this in the Pound Club in Belfast, great days
We are very lucky to have had Steely Dan.
I'm old grizzled and grey. I've spent many nights burning weed to this
Oh yeah baby! Doing that now
Fffffft!
Rest in peace steely dan allways liked your music
That bass is dangerous! ❤
Im 66 and still love to listen steely dans songs.feel im still a teenager ...lol
Why do we go back and do it again?Because it’s comforting to have repetition in your life it’s human nature
Love ❤️ your music. I’m a child of the 70’s. There’s no music that competes to what you have created. May you live as long as you want. And may you never want as long as you live.
Agreed indeed. Way before Ipods, Itunes, CD players. Used to hear these classics on vinyl records and cassettes. Good old happy days.
Yessss!❤
Love them so much too!! 🎉
I often times feel extended versions of amazing classic songs lack the magic of the original. Not so here. Absolutely fabulous!!
Correct I agree with you on both
This is such a haunting song. For me, it put's my mind straight back into the darkest part of the 1970's. The raw Vegas gangster feel contrasts with the striving for decent values and good vibrations that Gerry Rafferty seemed to evoke.
At 72 i would go back and do it again too !! 🎼🎵🎶🎹🎼🎵🎶🎹😛
Bless your heart ,at 66 I say sir rest in peice you and I were realing in the years🎉
Steely Dan - Do It Again
In the mornin' you go gunnin'
For the man who stole your water
And you fire till he is done in
But they catch you at the border
And the mourners are all singin'
As they drag you by your feet
But the hangman isn't hangin'
And they put you on the street
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheel turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
When you know she's no high climber
Then you find your only friend
In a room with your two timer
And you're sure you're near the end
Then you love a little wild one
And she brings you only sorrow
All the time you know she's smilin'
You'll be on your knees tomorrow, yeah
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheel turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
Now you swear and kick and beg us
That you're not a gamblin' man
Then you find you're back in vegas
With a handle in your hand
Your black cards can make you money
So you hide them when you're able
In the land of milk and honey
You must put them on the table
You go back, jack, do it again
Wheels turning 'round and 'round
You go back, jack, do it again
Donald Fagen / Walter Becker
There won't be music like this again love it!!!
One of my favorite groups since 1972. Fagan,Becker and Katz created some awesome music that scanned all genres 🎶
Didn’t know Fagan , Becker and Chevy Chase worked in group together. Keep rockin Donald Fagan.
Great track heard this when I was 20yrs am now 60 and still love it👌♥️
They played this at a disco and everybody went crazy doing the hustle in the 70's
everyone got on the floor
There really is happiness at the end of the rainbow 😊sometimes it comes to you late in life
Nothing transports me back in time like this magical piece of music.....
Only 2 guys were Steely Dan? Unreal. I loved Cant Buy a Thrill and fell in love with the guy who introduced me to their music
No; many people in the band besides Walter B. and Donald F.
They used the best session musicians and singers available Jeff Porcaro Michael Mcdonald bloody loads of em search out the albums and read the sleeve notes you would be so surprised and amazed also check out a covers tribute band named Stealing Dan they do a good job and enjoy the music
Ain't no band better than the DAN!!!!!!😊
One of the most underrated rock bands. Becker and Fagen sure knew how to get the right musicians for each project

A favorite of mine from back in the long ago!
THANKS BROTHER ALL THESE YEARS FINALLY GOT TO READ THE LYRICS. BRINGS GOOD AND BAD MEMORIES
One of my favorite piece's of music. When my parents were out, I'd crank this up on our stereo. If it came on the radio, my friends and I would belt this one out as loud as we could. Still holds up.
Steely Dan well ahead of their time fantastic.
Aww hey am.listetening to this track now .this sort of music is legends .your dad had a great ear for music
I remember the first time I ever heard this and that was that, Steely Dan got me.
Me2! 🌠
Greetings Haitian Divorce did it for me........BBC Radio 1 a long time ago
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to the end of the Vietnam War when dad worked at WABD across from the main gate of Ft. Campbell. I was just about 5 years old but I remember all of it. Those Soldiers impressed me and I finally became one in 1988. Mom and dad were hippies so they didn’t like it. I’m retired from the army in 2024 and mom’s in an old folks home and dad still doesn’t talk to me. Life is good though, my wife is 38 and we have a fine 9 year old son and we love and depend on one another. 🇺🇸
These two geniuses drove many a session musician to the edge :)
Ha ha ! I bet they did
71 years young, Steely, Gordon Lightfoot and America are a few of my go to music vacations !
Your dad knew music .It's cool hu. Old hippies never die they keep singing and dancing with Jesus
You could be up to no good or just havin a damn fine day! just love this smoky room era music. Very sure Doing It Again appears in many people's personal top10s or playlists.. just legendary!
DE ACUERDO EN TODO CON TIGO.🐺
Still glorious after all these years.
Reminds me so much of the Doobie Brothers, awesome and never gets old!
Vice versa
I'm still listening in 2024... 62 years old... best music
Am 66 this year and my sons love it .they grew up with this x
I'm 65, and Steely Dan is still In The Top 10
Brilliant then brilliant now.
Love this recording, sounds like I’m listening on the vinyl
Very good memories and I would love to do it again!!
Steely Dan is my favorite of all time
