    Love this piece, I played sop years ago and loved every minute. Interestingly I only ever played this piece as a Euphonium solo (not me personally) and after 10 years away from playing picked myself up a trumpet I fancied and have been using this piece (althiugh I no longer have the sheet music) to start waking my more technical side back up together. Sounds great on sop though...well done!

    Right. I have found the next solo i want to play!! This one is amazing. Extremely well played and controlled. Managed to find the preview of the Sop part and was following along.
    There are nowhere near enough soprano cornet solo's out there. Or at least there are some. But quite a few of them don't show off the instrument quite to my liking. This one does.

    @BigDaddyOldDude Keith is playing a Schilke soprano. I passed along your compliement to him, and here's his reply: "This one has the standard bell. I appreciate his comments about my sound. I work hard on sound on that instrument, which to me is too bright for my tastes. I temper it mostly with my selection of mouthpiece (which is notably deeper and with a larger backbore than a typical "soprano" mouthpiece) and I'm sure partly with my approach to playing it."

    Absolutely amazing. I'm playing this on Euphonium. I'd hate to have to play it on Soprano cornet let alone the cornet.

    So, I stumbled upon this on accident, but it turns out Keith is the dad of a guy that went to my High School, and he Guested in our Jazz Band one year.

    Beautiful. I gather this was originally a children's song. But the arrangement and the sololists' tone and interpretation makes it into something much more akin to actual classical music. Just my humble opinion.

    Wonderful performance! Why is a Japanese umbrella placed on the stage?

    • @doctorgrowl
      @doctorgrowl  9 лет назад

      The concert coincided with the Red Wing Arts Council's summer celebration, and the umbrellas were painted by local artists in keeping with that year's theme. Originally the concert was to be held outside in Central Park, with the umbrellas displayed around the park. However, due to rain, the concert was moved to a nearby church. (We wouldn't want the umbrellas to get wet, after all!)
