Beautiful car I remember going to see this car with my 2 cousins at a showroom in Brooklyn N.Y. Atlantic Pontiac to be exact even though we were just kids the salesman let us in and was very nice he even gave us the catalog for that year , I asked him 2 questions how much he answered 13,000 bucks than I asked him what's faster the TA or a corvette he replied I don't know but they both can go lol. Great memories
I've always loved the design and style of the late second generation Trans Ams. Too bad the performance was a bit lackluster compared to muscle cars from the 60s but it was still pretty quick for the time.
Yep. The '79 TA (with the 400/4spd combo obviously) was easily the fastest American car you could buy that year-- could beat up on the Vette all day long-- and could easily get into the 13s with very minor mods (almost got there factory stock as it was).
Absolutely gorgeous! It's the 1980 with the twin pipes, the 81 had a single pipe Sure love to own that car! Bandit edition but the bandit was a 78. Which I'd also like to have.
Bandit was a 77 model. Actually it was a 76, with a 77 nose put on. It was put on because when the movie woukd be out, the 77 model would be available and Pontiac wanted to advertise the change from round headlights, to the double square! My dad bought ours in May of 77! Still the coolest and most fun car i have ever driven or had!

Only way it would be faster than a W72 400 would be if it was modified. Stock turbo 301 vs stock W72 400 . The W72 400 4 spd is much faster by over a full second in the in the 1/4 mile. The W72 400 4 spd was also faster than 76 TA 455 and killed the olds 403.
@@mattspontiacta so true! Pontiac way underrated the 400 at 220hp when dyno testing has confirmed they were in the 260hp range which was bad ass in 1977 considering every other sports car barely made 200

It's an 80. The clue is the "hobnail" velour seat insert material...the same as the 79 used. The 81 used a different seat velour called "pimlico", that has sort of a striped pattern. Plus it says 1980 on his rear license plate 🙂 .
@Michael Owen Ahh right OK, I didn't know, I thought all trans am's had the classic honeycomb wheel design and I thought you may of just changed them, but it's a nice car either way. 😎👍
