It feels a bit like when a couple you're good friends with break up and you don't want to play favorites... I felt so guilty buying Ellen's Night Flyer but so glad I did as it's arrived, and really wearable, softer than the actual original bat which I like. But I also really want to support Zoologist because they are so artistic, and bold and I appreciate their creativity with fragrances. Too bad, I was hoping these would both be winners so I could have a bat 1.0 and bat 2.0! Thanks so much for the review!
Maybe just get a different Zoologist perfume and let Ellen have this one? Her perfume line is also super artistic and edgy/punk rock. I am proud of her for standing up for her principles.
I haven't tried the new Bat but I do have Night Flyer. Unfortunately to me and others around me, it smells heavy of animal urine that's been sitting for awhile. So much so that I can barely smell the musty, damp earth in the background. The first time I sprayed it my cat ran over and took a sniff then gagged 🤣🤣🤣 I Can't wear it on my skin, but I love to occasionally smell it from the bottle because it is so very unique & really does smell like a dirty animal that resides in a mossy, dank cave.
I love the original so much , I can't wait to hear your thoughts this comparison. I've not tried the new formulation of bat , so I'm hopeful. Appreciate you doing this 👌
Great in-depth comparison, it’s been a while since I smelt the original Bat, the new one is almost certainly not going to be for me if even you found it challenging!
I love Zoologists Bat, but I never smelt the old one. I’d love to smell the old bat. The only perfumes I really like from Zoologists are Hummingbird, Bat, Dragonfly, and Civet. That said, the perfumes are too weak and last less than half hour..No way are they extrait. NO WAY. I don’t even think the perfumes are edp. At best they’re edt. I collect perfumes and am very familiar with the different concentrations. I bought all my decants and samples directly from Zoologist. Civet I hated at first, then after the first 5 mins, it’s beautiful and sweet. Too bad, Zoologist has some great perfumes but they need to make them extrait.. or edp at least
Nope. Víctor talked about this trough Facebook. In the beginning he named everything edp but this changed because lots of his fragrances are too strong so they are extrait.

I've been waiting for Ellen to release Bat for what feels like forever! but I have a 100ml bottle on its way to me now, so horray! I completely fell in love with the original the 1st time I sniffed it & really couldn't imagine anyone disliking it - But I soon discovered most people around me thought it was horrendous; The 1st time my OH smelt it, he told me I smelt like "a tramp that's rolled around in a compost heap" 😂😂😂 I got a sample of the new bat the other week, from what I'd heard, I wasnt expecting much - but it's much better than I thought it was going to be. To me - it starts with a fermented fruitiness with something that's a bit unwashed, that automatically me think of that 'nocturnal animal accord' from sombre... and that's sat ontop of some soil, which is lovely - but that soil sadly really takes a backseat to that skank, which isn't so lovely. I didnt love it, but I found it really quite interesting, enough to maybe want to get to know it more... but within 2 hours, it sat so close to my skin & lost all its personality, there was no filth or dirt and it reminded me alittle of the drydown of Panda. So I'm not tempted to pay that much for a bottle, especially as I dont remember it lasting on my skin past 4 hours, but that's mostly been my experience with Prin's stuff. Which is a shame - as I think his ideas are fab, just nothing I've tried of his has really worked out for me.
yes yes yes! There's definitely elements of the new Bat that reminded me of Sombre too! Almost like Sombre light at times! That weird sour skank and the muddiness, you're totally right! Not for me, I can't get passed the sour twang, but definitely interesting! I really like the OG, I think I'm going to grab a bottle of Night Flyer if she still has it after all this horrible lockdown guff blows over.

Have you tried anything from Olympic Orchids? I've been pretty curious about Ellens other stuff, but just never got around to ordering any samples before - so I grabbed a 10 pack with my bottle, it's all pretty reasonably priced, after UK shipping I paid about £140.
In the new Bat the sour milk note is guava. We used to have a guava tree next to our house in the Philippines. I absolutely hate the smell of guava and it totally turned me off to this one. Unwearable.
Check my Zoologist Sloth unboxing!... as for bat my view is my vintage bat has macerated for 5 years so its darker deeper banana. Night flyer is brighter greener for me.... And oh yeah the new bat totally dif I like it but I opted for sloth instead.

I'm surprised to hear you say that it's opening is mostly a tropical fruit scent, and light on the banana. I smell it as the other way around.
I've got both formulations in samples. How can I tell which one is what? One looks light yellow and the other one is darker.
