Nobody caught the vibe of growing up in Australia in the 70s and 80s as well as Richard. His songs are a time machine to a care free part of our lives when hopes and dreams were vibrant.
At his peak he was perhaps one of the WORLD'S Greatest singer/songwriter musicians going. Classic tunes, riffs and melodies flowed from this man. A genuine but largely underrated Aussie gem. His music still stands up today putting the computerised crap they embellish us with to shame.
Yeah Richard reckons that the Railway don't come out here no more Bb A Eb and its cold Fm Cdim9 D9 through Nambucca up the coast the grass is greener the girls are sweeter I did all the last ten summers D#~~F7^^
Absolute brilliant performance by the man and a special mention to the young lead guitarist who is just so much enjoying the moment with this Aussie legend of a man
Richard's music defines my formative years growing up on the Northern Beaches (featured in a few songs)- seen him play live more than any other band/artist (at least 15+ times - always a joy). Going to see him play live again soon ( Aug 2024). His music is immortal.
Such a classic from a wonderful, yet under-rated, Aussie singer-songwriter. Used to follow him on the pub run in 70s-80s Victoria and then tried to front up to uni/work the next day. Golden era.
Thnx R.C !!! This is still one of my All time favourite songs from back in the day when we were so much younger. I went to college with 'Dragon' brothers Mark + Todd Hunter - here in Taumarunui, NZ . Remember? Yeah, still raging crazy and more alive than ever !!!!
Really... mates in tge industry saud marc was a real arsehole but that Todd was a champ. Great band though and we lost a legend when marc died way too young
Great song, makes me feel very sentimental. I'm interested to read that it is not about street workers, but about some 'untouchables' in his street. I wish I had known that 40 years ago when the song came out. It would have put my dismal efforts at romancing into better perspective ... "him too!" Shall I listen again, for the 14th time? yeahhhh
+Galah Townsville where did you read that? Even if it was an interview with Dick Clap I would say he is bullshitting. Dont you slip (in love with) So many girls on the avenue ... come on zero chance this is about untouchables which don't even exist in Australia. I heard that he did say it was about some girls who live on an avenue in a flat and Richard Clapton and his mate used to dream about meeting them they figured they had no chance as they leant on the window sill. Even if true Richard was a smart enough guy to see the other viewpoint regarding girls in the red light district.... he knew what he was writing.
I don't know man - the lyrics seem pretty unequivocal - 'they're trying to get you in, leaning on window sills' 'they're all dressed up to kill' 'they know how to get you in' etc. I can see why he might have adjusted the story in these conservative times though.
f mind blowing --ive got on repeat ---on my android big fella big cuntry tv mate ---this track is held in high review by just about every Scandinavian I know from 1980 ONWARDS
Honestly Richard is amazing saw him at the old Crown Casino in the Sante Brassire one night 14 years ago possibly the greatest night ever front table and even got to sing along with him, died and went to heaven. My life was complete
This is very good I'm in the middle of learning it, to cover it with my band, I don't think id say it's one of Australia's best ever, but I do think it rates in the top 100. A big call to say its one of the best ever! There are so many to contend with, but I'm a follower of LRB, Mondo Rock, Paul Kelly, Men at work, ACDC, Angels, Easy Beats, etc etc how can you choose? really ? Not to mention Cold Chisel mostly not my cup tea, But Ian Moss OMG what an under rated talent there. Richard certainly holds his own.
Remember the Taxi Club in Sydney Australia, Richard C, Jeff St, Doug P and many more, every body and any body made this place, our Little Grand Opree, Down Under.
A genuine Australian music icon. And Richard like me got extremely lucky - "Glory Road' was filmed in Berlin [West], but I'd bet Laondon to a brick he went through 'Checkpoint Charlie' for what was for civilians at the time a 'day pass' and you had to be back through CC by mid night. I say extremely lucky as the Berlin Wall and the entire DDR/Communist East German body politic crumbled. I still have a chunk off the 'Berlin Bunker concrete that a DDR policeman let me wander through the still above ground structure - amazing how far a US $20 goes in some parts of the world.
yea it brings back some time that was and now is. Was always great to get around Sydney to those out door concerts with dragon and Clapton the oils had some great times back then
Danny Spencer - he plays a great composite part here picking notes from the range of guitar tracks on the record - and that lick at 1.19 shows some serious control. Shame about the bass player - does he land ANY notes on a beat? Cudos to the drummer who makes this drive and swing with that sea of random notes going on behind him.
Nobody caught the vibe of growing up in Australia in the 70s and 80s as well as Richard. His songs are a time machine to a care free part of our lives when hopes and dreams were vibrant.
what's happened though, why doesn't life feel majestic any longer?
nailed it.
It was nice then complete change
Aussie great, still performing in 2024.
One of the greatest Australian songs of all time IMO.
Yeah one of. I think rock and roll you gave me some of the best years of my life is the best song from aus

As a Muso myself, he IS the grandfather of Australian Rock.
Yeah Richard reckons that the Railway don't come out here no more Bb A Eb and its cold Fm Cdim9 D9 through Nambucca up the coast the grass is greener the girls are sweeter I did all the last ten summers D#~~F7^^
He was good 👍
Love this song It was out when my wife of 48 years and I first met! I love hearing it. Takes me back to some beautiful times.
Absolute brilliant performance by the man and a special mention to the young lead guitarist who is just so much enjoying the moment with this Aussie legend of a man
CANNOT BEAT 70S AND 80S MUSIC ..LEAVES THE CRAP OF TODAY MILLION MILES AWAY.
Yes and we watched it unfold with us as life went on and it will never be bettered that era of music imo.
What happened 😭😭😭😭
Richard is one of Australia's truly great singer songwriters. Seen him so many times never, fails to deliver
I was a yank teacher just over to oz. saw Richard in Melbourne will never forget it. Thanks Richard

very talented and underated singer in Australia love Richard!
He sounds just as good today as he did when he wrote it.. You cant say that about to many artists as they get older...
That's cos Ralph sounded like an 60 year old at 20
I have to agree, he's still impressive 40 years later
Good to see a live performance that keeps the tempo under control.
Such a classic from a wonderful, yet under-rated, Aussie singer-songwriter. Used to follow him on the pub run in 70s-80s Victoria and then tried to front up to uni/work the next day. Golden era.
Absolutely ROCKED Twin Towns Saturday 3rd Sept 22. Better than he has ever been - if thats at all possible! Great rigies, and covers! Rock On Ralf!
Weekends on Bondi Beach as a teenager. Wonderful memories, thank you. 💞🌸💞

The young man on Stratocaster to Richard's left is very good, classic tone!

He introduces it as tge song he wrote when he was a huge sex god!!
@@AlienSexGod see "Girls_on_the_Avenue_(song)" wiki page. I'm not referring to the Hindu caste system (eye roll)

This guy should have been on the top 5 bands in the world! What happened? Saw him live and the band coordination was as good if not better then U2. ❤
Wow. Keith Urban on lead guitar. ty 4 music
Danny Spencer mate, not Keith Urban.
This is a timeless song, that will always make you feel good: Peace
His name is Danny Spencer. He plays in the Jimmy Barnes dvd LIVE AT THE CHAPEL.
He has played a lot for Jimmy Barnes & Richard Clapton line ups.

Fabulous. The tempo seems to have been take down a notch and it just works beautifully. A great version.
Honestly Richard is amazing saw him at the old Crown Casino in the Sante Brassire one night 14 years ago possibly the greatest night ever front table and even got to sing along with him, died and went to heaven. My life was complete

Vale Red McKelvie who created most of the classic guitar parts in this iincredible song.
Listen to this clip just to bring me back to the better years.

The other Clapton as they call Richard is no slouch either
@JOLADE78 And he KNOWS all the guitar parts.
Don't you sleeup. Don't you sleeup.
Thumbs up if you think he looks like Mick Molloy?
Yes he's looks like Mick but Richard is actually talented..and probably more funnier 😀
Yea and he’s a tiger supporter
Michael T If Mick really let himself go.
anyone know who is playing lead guitar here...he's great

HE'S SINGING = DON'T YOU SLIP; I THOUGHT THE WORDS WERE = DON'T YOU FLIP
What came 1st?
Anyone know who's playing the blue strat?
Grant Harris Danny Spencer, ex Rogue Traders now with Barnsy
SoxnJocks Entertainment I've just seen this response. Thanks for the info.
Who is the really cool guitarist?
Maybe the guitar player could have learnt the parts and then played them with some taste.
His tone is sweet but he over enunciated the solo melody
Richard Clapton is very good singer. However he is not as good as Michael Hutchins
Terrible
I really like this but the vid is out of synch with the audio. Pity.
Me too Galah. I also thought it was about streetwalkers...
+Cheryl Macfarlane Streetworkers I think your mean? Maybe you watched too much Game of Thrones and the WhiteWalkers got you? Haha!
