Hi Ralfy I'm really pleased that you have got to review a single malt from my absolute favourite distillery.I'm 60 years old and been drinking single malts since my late teens and have had not all of them by any means but as you can appreciate over a 40 yr period, quite a few! This also includes lots of expensive, full on cask strength , unchill filtered, natural colour bla bla bla. Well after all these years and many brands , Glen Moray stands as my number one and has never ,ever disappointed me.What I particularly like is their honesty, transparency and if you contact them they always answer you and the fact that all their single malts are matured onsite in their warehouses. A truly superb single malt that deserves far more recognition than lots of other brands.
Never had a Glen Moray. The only one available in Norway at the moment are “Glen Moray Private Edition When Scotland meets Spain” for 168 GBP. Not going to bother with that one 😉
Hello! Following you since 2013, year when I formally started my travels in this wonderful world of single malts and spirits. I also got your first book (I liked a lot). I bought this bottle a few months ago in my favorite Texas chain store, because of my very good experience with the NAS Classic, and the very good price for an 18 yo. single malt. What a pleasant surprise! You can not be more correct saying this a whispering honest whisky, for a quiet fresh evening. Recommended to experienced drinkers to appreciate it in full. Cheers!
Got this for Christmas 2023 and have just finished it, loved it from first dram to last, but oh to find a dusty Glen Moray 13 Madeira cask, wish I had stock piled 🙂 Nice review matey.
Greeting Mr Ralfy, just an update, I bought it this afternoon and now having a sip. It is a very, very good, affordable single malt . Left it in the glass for 20 mins, had a sip, added a little bit water and left it again for 10 mins. Wow. Cheers to you and all single malt lovers.
Hello Ralfy! Here in Norway a version of Glen Moray is/was available at our duty free shop at the airport: GM 12 yo Elgin Signature, non-chill filteret, 48%.... Its quite a good deal, I think. Cheers!
Greeting Mr Ralfy, and thank you for another informative review. I was given a few times those entry-level Glen Moray, and they didn't impress me until this review. It is very cheap down here, just under 150. A very similar thing happened to Glenmorangie 18 year old. I bought a few for $130 from Costco, and now, after 2 years, you can't find it under $250. I am hoping to get this Glen Moray next week. I bought a bottle of Tomatin cask strength and noticed that it needs a lot of water over time to make it enjoyable. Last night, I blended it with Laphroaig select cask, and it turned out very nice. Have a nice week.
I’m falling into the (embarrassing) camp of having moved on beyond Glen Moray. However was so impressed with the honesty (mentioned already) of the distillery and staff when I visited. I am encouraged to re visit!! Thank you
Dear Ralfy, I haven’t seen one of your reviews for too long, and what can I say you never disappoint, marvellous and entertaining reviews every time!!! Keep on tasting Ralfy God bless whiskey 🥃
I’m from mobile, al and sent u a message two or three weeks ago. I visited Scotland and went to the Glengoyne distillery. U recommend the NAS cast strength. I got it and it is delicious. I also bought some 15 year old px series. 48 abv, non chill filtered. It’s also great. Thanks for your channel and the great education u provide.
I’ve grown to be quite a fan of Glen Moray. I think it will be a compulsory stock on my bar. It’s super cheap in my market and I think the varieties are excellent palette trainers, and quiet daily sippers in their own right. Great video. Thanks!
I recently received this from a friend as well as 2 bottles from Balblair a17 and 15. The Glen Moray is just as you described. Deliciously subtle, with deep rich flavours that keep you wanting to nose and appreciate it. I would buy a case if I could find it.
I'm a fan of this one and of the distillery in general the supermarket level stuff really is only a snapshot of what they're capable of. Regarding their peated whisky, the production was started specifically for blends however some spirit does get given to cask strength handfills at the distillery in various different cask types and they're usually very very good while being very affordable too with plenty of character. Keep an eye on the upcoming Warehouse releases, one will be their first more widespread release of a cask strength peated expression.
Hi Ralfy, SMWS release a lot of Glen Moray single casks. There used to be a tie up there with them & SMWS, not sure I ever liked a loft of them though.
Will have to keep an eye out for the Glen Moray 18 here in the U.S. Happily though, my wife and I will be in your neighborhood this August Ralfy, and we'd love to get together and buy you a dram "somewhere" in the Irish Sea!
This 18 is a belter. As Ralfy sais, the Glen Moray brand is often overlooked as supermarket scotch. The bog standard Nas 40% classic bottling punches with malts 3 times the price.
If I recall right, Glen Moray used to provide the RAF some 10,000 special bottles of Scotch whisky through RAF Lossiemouth. It cost 10 Quid in 1989. Don't know when it stopped.
O have opened travel retail version 15yr 48% NFC oloroso-bourbon and it's very interesting how good whisky is....for me excellent dram. New make have to be created very well to desire this quality. Thanks for video.
I bought this bottle last year when it first became available near me...for 179 dollars Canadian.....which fits the under 10 dollars a year formula, and makes this a great buy!
I’ve cracked Ralfy’s new scoring system. Just take what you think his old score would have been and subtract exactly 3 points. Guarantee this would have been an 87 in the good old days, I could see it in his eyes 👀
The SMWS actually bottles Glen Moray quite frequently. Most of the time they are also excellent. This from a Glen Moray aficionado, who had the first encounter with it in 1984 ...
Really enjoyed having the same dram while watching this! I'm surprised you didn't get a white wine note after water! But not Riesling, I was thinking a lighter, sweeter, Chardonnay. Cheers
I personally also always add a bit of water to my whisky. To compare apples to apples, I add about 10 drops of water to my dram of 12 year old Glen Moray. One time, to test the experience, I took a sip of whisky without adding water. The whisky was unrecognizable. It was bitter, woody, like green wood sap bitter. Then I added my 10 drops of water and it almost instantly brought out the creaminess and the fruitiness.
Then you've been missing out on a great scotch my friend ! I love every one Iv'e had and that's a lot of them. My personal favourite is the 15 yr old Heritage, try it and see for youself.
Ralfy, I don't know if it's just a novelty, but have you tried Newfoundland Screech rum? I have family there and they swear by it as a great rum. I thought it was nasty.. LOL
Glen Moray is a shame- only a couple of bottles of any note- the manzanilla warehouse bottling was pretty decent but I can’t see myself buying another anytime soon. Don’t seem to find many indie bottlings
I found myself having a hard time spending time with my 46% whiskies these days. I can't play with water the same way I can do with cask strength. How can one enjoy a 46% giving it's well deserved respect?
In the US 4-5 years ago this brand was VERY cheap… maybe the cheapest single malt I knew of in shops in my area. It’s since seen the same inflation that has crippled America over the last 3 or so years. Hopefully that changes.
I've found Glen Morays pretty enjoyable and reasonably priced. In my neck of the woods prices for scotch malt whiskeys have gone up about 30% in a few years, and many are just not worth buying any more. So I'm not doing it unless it's something really interesting or a good deal. I'll rather go for armagnac for example, which has not gone up nearly as much, in some cases not much at all.
I am sure this is a ''fine" dram, but when one has to "search" to find flavors and enjoyment, it's not my ball game. I am waiting till we get great drams of yesteryear. Got enough of the old stock to get me through a few more years. If an 18 year old 47.8% decent distillery doesn't jump out, and make you search for the "excellence", then I am simply not interested. BTW, good and fair review.
I had Glen Moray Classic when I first began delving into single malts. Nice , but not integrity or exciting. I would try the 18 based on Ralfy's recommendation.
Its a competent budget whiskey. Its good not great for the age. I've had plenty of the whole range and as a pauper with a prince's taste, what I usually do is save up for a more complex whiskey. I do buy them now and again but once you have the real good stuff, the reality is you always compare. Im not knocking it, I like it and would recommend it gladly as a starter or an all rounder non offender. Easy sipping.

So glad you liked it Ralfy ! Somewhat undervalued single malt, but great whisky for lot of reasons which you mentioned !
Never had a Glen Moray. The only one available in Norway at the moment are “Glen Moray Private Edition When Scotland meets Spain” for 168 GBP. Not going to bother with that one 😉
16:46 flies under the radar for sure but a steady distillery that rarely fails to deliver. Warehouse editions are very special indeed.

Nice review matey.
I lucked out locally - I bought three of the Madeira cask - I still have ONE left....
Yeah, the 13yr old madeira cask was sublime and I wish I had had a few spare £££'s to buy a few bottles to store.
Been drinking this expression since it was released. A wonderful 18 delightful! 100 here in the States! Thank you for the review!

i completely agree wth your assessment of the cheaper glen moray its sweet and moreish very in-offensive.
Really enjoyed the warehouse edition 1 bottling that came out in 2020 , 14 years full maturation in a sauternes cask

I had Glen moray 15 yrs ago, and I felt the nice clean flavor comes from it, a bit short on finish. Hey, it is a $35 bottle, enjoined it.
Dear Ralfy,
I haven’t seen one of your reviews for too long, and what can I say you never disappoint, marvellous and entertaining reviews every time!!!

Thanks so much Ralfy! We need experienced anoraks like you to tell us where there is good value for our money!!
Dear Ralfy, sounds delicious but sadly in Italy it is too expensive. Thanks for a fine review. Kindest regards, S.

Always buy a bottle (12) for our golf holidays in Moray - cannot go wrong to round off a night

I was lucky to get the last box of 17s here in Denmark. Man it's good

Ralfy, you changed whiskey glasses, please elaborate. Your faithful viewers would like to know.

Still $180 cdn. But the 15 year old is only $80 cdn....
Nope...I just watched ralfy review 674. I think the better buy is the 18 yo.
Whiskybroker IB sometimes bottle a cask of GM
I started my single malt journey with Glen Morays 😮 They were very good value all be it simple single malts
Got the 12-year and can't wait to open it. Right now here in NC (USA) this 18-year currently is $125 US.
Spent a lovely afternoon recently on the Glen Moray distillery tour. They really have got their act together.
I’ve cracked Ralfy’s new scoring system. Just take what you think his old score would have been and subtract exactly 3 points. Guarantee this would have been an 87 in the good old days, I could see it in his eyes 👀

Never turn down a glass of Glen Moray 12 or 18.
the 12 is too sweet for me

Well now, an unexpected malt mark. I would otherwise not have tried this one, but now I will consider it. Thank you, sir.
This is the first positive opinion or recommendstion Ive ever heard for anything from Glen Moray.
Then you've been missing out on a great scotch my friend ! I love every one Iv'e had and that's a lot of them. My personal favourite is the 15 yr old Heritage, try it and see for youself.
Their Travel Retail Classic, 12 and 15 are all 48% NCF
Thank you for this review
Thank you Ralfy for the whiskey education 🥃
Glen Moray was my first whisky
Ralfy, I don't know if it's just a novelty, but have you tried Newfoundland Screech rum? I have family there and they swear by it as a great rum. I thought it was nasty.. LOL

Sounds like a perfect whiskey for when I’m watching F1 Sunday evening, when the rest of the family has gone to bed.
Good Evening 😊 Thanks Buddy 👏🏼👏🏼 Have a good day and enjoy your pour 🥃 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Always liked glen moray only whiskey snobs who dont drink it😂
So nobody is going to mention the fact that, after 1000+ reviews, saying goodbye to the Glencairns is a bit of a big deal?
My thoughts exactly, I asked him in the comments of his last review what happened to his Glencairn, but no response.
@@fredlabosch5164 It'll probably remain one of life's great mysteries. 😁
It's only temporary. Not the first time.
Noticed this too. Past 3 reviews if memory serves.
I Was going to order johnnie Walker black scotch with European beer, this weekend.
In the US 4-5 years ago this brand was VERY cheap… maybe the cheapest single malt I knew of in shops in my area. It’s since seen the same inflation that has crippled America over the last 3 or so years. Hopefully that changes.
This is $130 Canadian in Alberta. Very good value considering the age.

I haven’t try Glen Moray yet, but I will ❗️
18:49 to 19:04 You are welcome. I have been following you since the time when you had 25000 subscribers.
A juice heads up about a future Ralfy Rant, something to look forward too, lol.
Wow, I'm seeing this at 50% in the US!
Back to the Clivey Clicker! 🤗 - was the other one misbehaving again?

Glen Murray, like Andy Murray
$97.99 is a bargain. 👍
Glen Moray and Old Pultney using the same bottle was always curious to me
There not the same bottles.
I purchased this whisky for £65 on offer, try getting another good 18yr old for that price.
Older, higher strength Glen Morays can be pretty special.
Double click bye bye ralfy😉cheers bud will try
Hallelujah ✅️ Aģape 😘
Malty Ministerial Monopolies
Ralfy, please don't slip into the Glen Mor-ray pronunciation. Let's keep the name authentic, as well as the whisky.
I had Glen Moray Classic when I first began delving into single malts. Nice , but not integrity or exciting. I would try the 18 based on Ralfy's recommendation.
