Extremely helpful, explained in a way that I now understandpParameters and calculated fields. I haven't worked out the best option to allow me to simply filter between two data filters (i.e. contains in this field or another field) but I think I'll get there. Many thanks Andy.
Thank you Andy for a nice demo. Is it possible to run multiple select what-if scenarios for a single dimension? Using your example above (around 09:00 time on your video), I'd like to be able to create a sales forecast parameter that will be different for different sub-categories. So, we will have parameter fields for each sub-category where we'll choose different values: Appliances 5%, Labels 2% etc. Do you think it is possible? Thank you
Thank you for very helpful tips. I have a question on using the parameter to forecast sales. In the example you show, all Subcat is forecast to grow at the same rate. Is there the way to allow each Subcat to have a different forecast rate?
4:37 the parameter I created is not listed in the Reference line drop down list. This is because you did not add the parameter to the sheet. I am on PC; maybe on a Mac you don't need to do this (?). Right click on the parameter>Add to sheet. Once that is done then the parameter (Pick a Date) is listed.
Hi Andy - Great video as usual. I was wondering is there a method that I can use to show only relevant filters for parameters? I have a dashboard that uses 3 params as filters but can’t get a ‘show relevant values’ option. Many thanks
Nope, that's not an option. You might want to use sheets that act as filters. That way when you click on one dimension, it could filter that sheet to relevant values.
Hello @Andy Kriebel thanks for those tips. It will be helpful if tell me a way that my Date parameter will updated by the date from my database field if the date is changed or added in a table. as the parameters will not get updated automatically we need to go and updated the field to pick the latest from the field.

Hi Andy, Thanks for making these wonderful video tutorials. I noticed that you have Alteryx installed on the Mac. I do not see the Mac version on their website. How can I run Alteryx on Mac ?
Good morning, I am currently going to college for Data Analytics, and my Tableau instructor referenced your video. Could I get more examples from you to help me? Please and thank you.
Hi Andy! Excellent video. It was very helpful. However, I am not able to use parameter to select a worksheet (Bar chart / Map). I did the exact same thing as you. I created a Vertical container and dropped the first chart in it. Then, I tried to drop the second chart (worksheet) into the lower end of the container. In your video, the selected worksheet quickly occupied the entire container. However in my case, both the worksheets takes equal space (half-half) regardless of the parameter value. So when one worksheet is selected, the other half remains blank. I have been trying to do this for a long time and have been facing the same issue. Now, I saw your video for some other reason and when I saw this I was excited. Still, I am not able to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Please tell me what I could possibly be doing wrong. What I did: 1) Create a treemap in one worksheet 2) Create a bubble chart in another worksheet 3) Create a parameter to control it and apply the corresponding Calculated Field value to the filter (the non-selected worksheet becoming blank works fine) 4) Create a dashboard and try to pack both the sheets in a VERTICAL CONTAINER (Yes, I did not use the horizontal one because I read somewhere that it won't work). I really want to know what I am doing wrong :) Thanks a lot Andy! I am a great fan of your Soccer dashboards in vizwiz.com. Keep doing the great work!
Hi Andy, Have you ever try Parameters And Filter based on OR condition. There is one situation I am facing is with my filter option where while doing filter its satisfying only few filter condition but it should do an OR operation and satisfy all of them If you came across something like this plz let me know for any clarification as well
In 31:32, this problem is nasty. One solution is to de-select the "entire view" and fix the view with padding to keep all views on the same horizontal line.
Hi Andy, this was fantastic! For forecasting - is there a way to get a table of forecast values per month instead of the line chart? Reason is that I would like to be able to show the expected year-end revenue per state * a commission % so we can have a monthly revised estimate of year-end commission. Thanks! Ryan
Hi Andy, Can you please clear my one doubt as if we are doing dynamic sorting by measures. So we should take only the measure field which are used in view or we can take any one.
Hi Andy, First of all great video. I wanted to know two things regarding using parameter as a filter for different data sources. First- in the video we have taken parameter values from the Region field from sample superstore. Will this be updated if in the future more regions flows in. Second- We can also use the same filter in two different data sources by using data blending. Which one will be more efficient? Using parameter or using data blending. Waiting for your reply.
1 - Yes, you can configure the parameter to update based on a field when the workbook is opened. 2 - It's use the parameter as a filter instead of blending.
Hi Andy. Great video. I have a problem with a filter. Hope you or someone can help me solve it. I have a slider filter that goes from ranges 10 to 100 in increasing values of 1. What i want is to limit the range of values to 10....so if my lower value is 13, my higher value can be any integer number between 13 and 23 but no greater than 23 , so the user can only select ranges of maximum 10 values each time, between the range 10 to 100. Thanks in advance
Hi Andy, I have a Parameter issue, that I cant seem to find a solution for and I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. My dashboard has multiple parameters and sets (for multi-select options) Is there a way for a selection in one parameter to "filter" down the available options in the other parameters? For example: Say you have 2 parameters one for a vehicle type and the second for vehicle Models. The 1st parameter has Car and motorcycle. the second parameter has a list of models both cars and motorcycles. This issue I am having is that if I select "motorcycles" from the 1st parameter, Tableau does not instinctively filter the second parameter to the motorcycle models. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much for your videos. They have really helped me.
You can have a parameter update from a field when you reopen that workbook, but you can’t have it dynamically update based on a selection from another parameter or field. I’d recommend a regular filter instead.
@@vizwiz I figured it out with quick filters. when you show the filter you have to go into the filter option and select "Only Relevant Values" I wish tableau was intuative as Power BI. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing this, I have a question in case I have differents parameters that depend from each other. For example, I have a parameter 1 that contains 2 values: Energy and Electricity. For each of those I have different metrics. So I have another parameter 2 named Metric. My issue here is that I want the parameter metric to show only metrics related to energy when i select energy and same goes for electricity. Any ideas ?
Let me make sure I understand. If you choose Electric, you want the Metric parameter to show a couple of metrics in the list. And when you choose Energy, you want to show a different set in the list. Correct?
@@dorraboughzala7639 to do that, you would need to reshape the data so that you have a single column for all of your measures.
