Swap sheets, containers and more! Dynamic Zone Visibility : New in Tableau 2022.3
HTML-код

- It's time to throw the old hacks in the bin, sheet swapping is going to be so much easier. This exciting capability allows you to control sheets or containers using a parameter or field. Swap sheets, zones or even whole dashboards. I cover 2 simple examples and feature a few more from the community.
My example: public.tableau.com/app/profil...

Tableau Release Notes:
With dynamic zone visibility, you can tailor experiences for your end users, so they only see the dashboard elements relevant to them. Create sophisticated and interactive dashboards that dynamically reveal dashboard elements. In the layout pane, you configure when dashboard elements are shown or hidden based on the values of parameters and fields. More information is here. help.tableau.com/current/pro/...

Finally!! We need Tableau to implement all the common-sense features folks are wishing for on their user platform.
God this feature is so useful, thank you for this detailed tutorial!
I had to use exactly what you did in the 9 min mark.
Real nice Explanation with granular level ! With right guidance ✌🏻
Great explanation Tim. Thanks!
Fantastic! I really enjoy and appreciate your videos.
Thank you Tim! I appreciate this and all your videos very much.
great demo of this, can't wait to get started with it, if only the version we had at work was up to date! :)
Loved this! Great way to reveal (and hide) a lot of data as required. Thanks, Tim!
Glad you enjoyed it!

really curious about how sam parson achieved the almost drill down like zoom!
Superb explanation. That's why I love this channel so much....❤❤
Thank you bang tim, salam dari indonesia..
Excellent demo thank you.
Thanks Tim, exactly what I was looking for
Great to see you hear 👋🤩
Hello Tim a faster way of selecting all the sheets when creating a parameter is to select one sheet and then ctrl+A (cmd+A on Mac). Saves Scrolling.
Hi Tim, yet another expertly delivered video that shows a cool feature. Wondered if you'll be creating any more on this feature away from the normal that is being shown. I have one that I can't seem to get to work yet so needing your inspiration 😉...Glyn at NERC
No more having to create show/hide calculations as filters, guess it kinda saves some time although you still need to create calcs.
Hi tim have some doubts in dashboard action can you please resolve the issue actually im redirect from one dashboard to another and same dashboard to another dashboard using open date and close date
I love your videos!
Thank you for your kind words. Hope to keep bringing more next year and revisiting some old classics to bring them up to date.
Hi Tim, thank you for very good explanation, one question can you elaborate on what these 2 means - Single value.
Independent of the viz, meaning the field returns a constant value independent of the structure of the viz, such as a fixed level of detail (LOD) calculation. , in supported field type
Really good. Thank you.
Thanks you Tableau Tim!
My pleasure!
Loved this video and thanks for sharing the info. Applied the same logic on date (loads when workbook opens) parameter to check if date selected (from parameter) is max date (from the data) but my calculated filters are not showing up dashboard Layout to choose after clicking 'Control visibility using value'. Please let me know if I am missing wrong or any other work around to dynamically swap the sheets on date parameter if selected date equal to max date to show KPI (if not show other value). Thanks
this is great! cant wait to see how this develops into more user friendly UX design elements
You and me both!
thank you for the video! 👍
Great Tim
It is a game changer indeed, thanks for the explanation. At 10:03 I think you should be able to select hidden containers with Item Hierarchy list on the bottom left side.
Yes!!! I feel like the containers are in the wrong place (drag and drop from Dashboard pane. You should be able to add containers directly on the Layout pane, "Item Hierarchy" section)
Valuable information, thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video!
Finally!!!! No more having to do exclusion filters :). Now to get my container skills polished.
I can do that in 10 minutes, here's the video. ruclips.net/video/96371LvULXM/видео.html
@@TableauTim that video was going to be my first stop :)
can we switch between the dashboards(which has different data sources) using parameters?
Hey Tim, great video! I haven't quite understood how the 3 boolean fields for each category(second example) were introduced to the viz. Maybe I have missed something?
They weren’t add to the viz. They don’t need to be added. They’re just formulas that compute a single value so can be checked to see whether the zone should be on or off.
Hello Tim ! Thanks for your video. Many many possibilities with this new feature. (It looks like you've forgot to put the link to the public viz into the description ;)
I did indeed. I’ll add that shortly. Thanks for the nudge. I posted it on convo too ;)

Yep you need to drag the sheet to your container AFTER the sheet is in the dashboard, otherwise it deselects the container and does allow you to drop the sheet. Deselection of the container when you start dragging a sheet shouldn't happen, and unfortunately I don't think this is something Tableau would be willing to change (since it's such a narrow use case and there are workarounds)
Hey Tim, can we swap filters along with the sheets using parameter?currently using version 2021
Not with your version. As the video suggests it’s only that version onwards. 2021 is quite old. Highly recommend at least upgrading to 2022
Have you noticed any impact on the performance by hiding visualizations? Are sql queries still send for that viz or is any data loaded when its hidden?
I’ll test this later tonight 👍🏾
Hi Tim, Thanks for your video. I face slowness since i have more sheets to swap and need to know whether this dynamic zone visibility solves the performance issue in tableau???
Hi Tim, Have you run into any situations where dynamic zone visibility works as it is supposed to in Desktop, but does not work in Tableau Cloud? Is this a bug or do you know if there is a work-around?
How annoying. Do you know the specific issues / is repeatable? Bugs in tableau cloud can be a moving Target. Although the response might be slow, definitely log it with Tableau support. I looked here but saw no mention of known bugs. www.tableau.com/support/known-issues
@@TableauTim Thanks Tim, will do. It has been very inconsistent - sometimes it works in the Cloud, but not 100% of the time.
Seems like they've heard your grumbles for the last few releases ;)
Where is the data or the viz you're using? It's not listed anywhere.
Highly recommend you get familiar with RUclips interface. If you read the description as I said in the video, you can find my example viz which if you download gives you the starting point and data set
Thanks for the video, do you know of any work around for mapping a link for multiple urls but when we click on one link after other it should open in a new window, basically if I have a Dashboard and i have multiple links on it, if i click on one link and then I click on another link it’s opening another link on the same page as the previous link, please let me know of any workaround for this one, Thanks 😊
This is a known issue. I submitted an idea now 6 years ago. It’s not possible without at least one new tab opening occasionally
See the issue here community.tableau.com/s/idea/0874T000000HAPRQA4/detail
sir. want to integrate 3 db data , which is on 3 different server ip...how to write custom sql ...with 3 servers
There’s plenty of resource out there showing how to connect to data sources. You’ll be using the data model or joins so be sure to google those topics. This video is about zone viability. Not related.
How is your question relevant to this topic? What you’re asking is a basic relationship join when you load the data into Tableau
What if I don't want to hide the title?
Tim do you do contract work?
Via the The Information Lab in the Uk 🇬🇧 yes. Reach out to us or if it’s not relating to consulting and more around video and training, I have my own company. Reach out on LinkedIn 👍🏾
@@TableauTim Thank you very much. Found it and will connect on Linkedin.
No more having to create separate titles every time to make the spacing work.
I simply refuse to do hacky workarounds these days
