See those aluminum handles under the windshields? That was for pump jockeys like me in 1972 to hang on to while wiping the windshields after scrubbing the dead bugs off. I liked working at the local truck stop after school every evening. Those old school drivers appreciated you too.
Had an 83 K100 aerodyne with a 3406 Cat and 15 speed hauling electronics and art exhibits. The k100 made all the difference getting into and around major cities while still being extremely comfortable running coast to coast. Compared to a long nose Pete or W900, I could pull a longer trailer and get more revenue per load which put more profit in my pocket everyday. I calculated out that an extra 5 feet of trailer was enough to pay all the fuel and other variable expenses on a coast to coast run. While interstate length limits were eased, getting a truck into New York City, Chicago or San Francisco to load and unload still gave a cabover the advantage over a conventional tractor. I remember some conventional owner / operators with big sleepers being forced to rent a short tractor every time they had to get into a city center but that’s part of the price they had to pay to drive a 300 inch wheel base tractor compared to my 180 inch wheelbase K100.
@@nkjeetun3877 that depends on how "comfortable" you want to be......like say , if you have kidney stones,......that truck would effectively help shake loose said kidney stones and thus help you in that manner. It also ground into my memory every bad road that required two hands on the wheel and both feet planted firmly on the floor. The bonus was watching a DOT cop,(or any other cop) who had a few too many donuts try to climb up and look inside (I always remove all of the grab bars that help to get into the cab).
The K100 was and is a beautiful truck. One of true style and character. It’s a shame that they chose to discontinue that series. Even the bullnose was a beaut! I would love to see more of the K200 from down under.
The first truck that I drove was a 1961 K100 with a 10 speed and an iron lung 300 Cummins with a 590 turbo on torsion bar suspension. We brought it back to life from the junkyard.
I had a 1984 kenworth k100 big 108 bunk flat top it had a V8 cat with a 13 speed an 355 rears on air ride long wheel base with 8 inch stright pipes an gangster sun visor an it was a bad boy an would carry the mail an punch a hole in the wind pulling a bullwagon with 50.000 lbs of cattle at over 100 mph but got about 3 mph per gallon but was one hell of a hot rod . had to sell it back in 2000 . sure miss it . NEVER LATE V 8 cat
I’ve been around the Kenworth factory in Australia and the new K200 cabover is their best selling truck, and Kenworth is the #1 truck seller in class 8 over here. It’s a whole lot better than the earlier K100 and rides like a European truck but with American durability. It doesn’t look like a kitchen appliance like European trucks either. I’ve got a 1980 K124CR with a 3408 CAT which I use every day, it isn’t a show truck because without it I don’t eat lol. It’s a long wheelbase with Airglide 100 air suspension and tapered leaf springs on the front so it rides pretty good unlike the old K100s.
Great video! For those who don't know, you could stand up in the sleeper of those cabovers that had the Aerodyne sleeper. First one i saw was in the mid 90's and it was unique.
In the 80s and 90s I remember everyone was buying them for the drive train because nobody wanted them.they road really rough and it seemed like there were a lot of people hooking the shoulder and rolling them over.
Used run into an owner operator at the company I was driving for in 1994 who had nice looking red K100. One day while we had some down time at a terminal we went for a spin with me at the wheel. He tried to get me to come drive for him after we got back. That wasn't my first time at the wheel of a cab-over. At my first company we had White/GMC cab-overs which had the best riding set in any truck I've driven.
Love seeing the K100. Got started in a 1978 K100 hauling grain and fertilizer then got a brand new 1984 W900. Keep bringing the great videos Jacks Chrome Shop.
I live Down under where they’re still building the K200 and i had the pleasure of having a drive in one a while back pulling a B-double with another dolly and triaxle trailer hanging on the back of that. Al for traailer wer loaded with sheep. All up weight i dont know exactly but it was heavy. I own and drive a 1980 K123 which is in ultra good knick but after hoping out of the 200 then back into the 123 i became very downhearted. The 200 had an almost European feel about it in the way it rode. SMOOTH AS SIlk. Nothing at all like the previous model before that. The wrap around dash was xhock a block full of gauges and the whole setup was very user friendly.. comfort wise as good as anything iv ever driven including Vulva, Scania and Merc. They sure did a nice job keeping up. This big girl was had a 120 ton rating,. The only thing i wasnt too keen on was the new radiator style. Everything else got a big thumbs up x by ten. Now back in my 123, rying to avoid anything as big as gumnut for fear of more spinal damage. All i can sayabout these new models was in the short drive i had inniit was it wasnt enough by about by about nine hundred miles. Super impressed.

2:50 I love seeing one of my most beloved Rigs, the Kenworth K100 Cabover pulling one of my most beloved spacecraft, the NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise OV-101! Enterprise was never outfitted to fly in space and as you can see the blueprints of it where different than the rest of the fleet. It was used at Edwards Air Force Base, California for the Approach and Landing Test ( ALT ) where it was dropped at high altitudes from the Boeing 747-100 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft N905NA so they could test the "Lifting Body" characteristics and the Delta wings while landing "Dead Stick" with no engine power. It was the worlds largest, heaviest, fastest, and highest flying glider!! This is an awesome historical photo! 🇺🇸
The Kenworth that did the wheelie had a hinged chassis so both back axles were on the road...i think they moved the engine back a little and the stunt driver was in the sleeper with a special steering wheel...
Awsome vid . Would be cool to hear more about the k104 series k108 an then k200. Isee theres some k108e in nz that have a similar body to the k200 but ithink the k108e have the k200 body but last of the k108 engines typa thing? Cheers for the series
Can you please tell me the difference between the k100 and the k123? At a glance you can say the grill is more narrow on the k123... But what is the backstory of the k123?

Who doesn't love the old cabovers!
Ran a 91 spring ride flattop K-100E for 15 years, now I'm in a 99 International 9800 flatfloor condo,....still love Cabovers!!
i heard that those old k100 were not reputed for their comfort, is that true?

I love the old cabovers, really miss marmon trucks😥😥😥😥
As a kid in the late '70s I saw most of the country from the cab of a K100 Kenworth.
Thank you for sharing! Many people have said the same thing!
THE most iconic truck ever
I saw a lot of those BJ and the Bear look-a-likes when I was in Australia. In fact they were all over the place, red and white.

Another Kenworth truck that was a limited edition model is the W900 James Bond 007 from the film License To Kill.
