  • Motormaster is in a very uncharacteristic mood and allows us not only to partake in a trip around the block, but he also allows filming.
    Motormaster's Earth form is that of a Kenworth K100E Aerodyne with a 550 horsepower energon-injected Detroit Diesel 8v92 Silver.

      They're still around and can be heard daily depending where you live, V/Line N Class locomotives in Victoria have the 8V-92T running the 415VAC Genset while the P Class have the 6V-71T, W Class diesel-hydraulics have the 12V-149N, their's one in Healesville and one in Mornington, New South Wales CPH and South Australian Railways Redhen rail motors have the 6-71N.

      You do own some second to none rigs I will say, Motormaster especially!
      Meanwhile I've been thinking of designing my own 2 stroke diesel, all flow events via the cylinder heads and not using holes in the cylinder walls where oil could be burnt as fuel, I'd go for a straight-6 as the prototype and probably a big V8 in future? I'd likely throw in that straight-6 into a rear wheel drive buggy project just for messing around on given land in spite of any weight - !

    Oh I've driven a heaping mess of KW K-100's in my years but never one with a Detroit Diesel 2-cycle. They were all CAT's and Cummins. I wish I had another of these but only the aerodyne model like all the Mayflowers I drove back in the 1990's. Only thing to remember about the 2-cycle Detroit that is unlike other big diesel's is you must keep them wound up, never ever lope one or operate in low rpm range. As for that transmission, it just needs another clutch brake disc which is easy to install then a clutch adjust and it'll be like new again. I wish that truck were in Indiana so I could take a look at it because I've driven some nice ones.

    • @MotormasterK100
      @MotormasterK100  7 лет назад +1

      Whats funny is that the entire transmission was built when the truck was restored. So, that is actually a new clutch brake. It has also been to two different shops for adjustment and no one can seem to get it just right. I just believe that it is just a fact of being a Decepticon character... he likes causing trouble.

    • @kingjames8283
      @kingjames8283 7 лет назад

      You are not alone in that boat. Two years ago my 10-speed Meritor manual failed and because they are no longer in business or have available parts, I was forced to swap to a 10-speed Eaton Fuller. Since I do construction on/off road and a lot of specialized heavy hauling, I asked the shop for a 10-spring 2050-lb.ft ultra heavy duty clutch. I assumed an Eaton transmission gets an Eaton clutch assembly. Boy was I wrong. It is in fact a 6-pad, 10-spring, 2050-lb.ft EZ Pedal clutch however it's not by Eaton. Turns out I spent around $1000 on a remanned clutch from a company called ACE MFG in Missouri. While the clutch appears to be just like the Eaton brand, the adjuster is another story and not many mechanics know how to adjust it. I took it back to shop who installed it and I told them it needs adjusting which they did. Makes no difference. Clutch brake is hit or miss, most of the time miss. The transmission is hard to shift. And the clutch pedal is as hard as the old type clutches from the early years. I've got the non-emission Detroit Diesel S-60 12.7L and I'm so fed up with the transmission / clutch issue, I'm about ready to yank it out and install a fresh Allison RDS-4700 automatic 7-speed for construction/refuge/emergency type vehicles and just be done with it. The quality of today's diesel techs just isn't there anymore and most shops won't let you out the door for less than $2,000. Lucky for me my DDEC-4 was just in-framed by Clarke Diesel and though they messed up the first rebuild, four months later they had to tear it down a rebuild it again and this time it's right. I got a good truck, good motor, now I need a reliable transmission.

    • @MotormasterK100
      @MotormasterK100  7 лет назад +3

      MegaSadzZ that's pretty normal for two stroke Detroits. they spin a little bit faster than a comparable 4 stroke but sound like they are going even faster. These engines work much better and are much happier at wide open throttle.

  • @slimchancetoo

    Read on another site that KW have DISCONTINUED (stopped building) the cabover series -- is that true.??? Here in Australia the KW Aerodyne is (K 108) is pretty much king of the multi-trailer heavy rig market and looks like holding the title for the foreseeable future. Both the cab itself and the dashboard are far advanced on the original K-100 of which I owned and drove three.

    • @MotormasterK100
      @MotormasterK100  7 лет назад

      Yes, the K100E was last produced in the USA as a 2002-2003 model. The interior setup changed minimally (if any) since the 1984-85 introduction of the "E" model. The last year or two of the "C" model K100 actually had many of the same components as well as the "E", so for decades, no R&D was really put into the cabover segment. This was simply because of low volume of sales. In fact, the last few years of the K100E production from the Chillicothe, Ohio plant was not on the traditional assembly line. The new T2000 tractor assembly line took the place of the K100 and cabover production was moved to outside sheds.

    • @slimchancetoo
      @slimchancetoo 7 лет назад

      So sad ------------ but on the other hand it certainly gives credence to the local Kenworth plant's claim that it is 'designed and built for Australian conditions'. Seems it is a stand alone design now.???
      You can check out the K200 and all the other 'designed for Australian conditions' trucks on the Kenworth au website.

      It is hard to accurately describe. It can be intense with the windows down, but it is quite manageable with them up. There is a whole lot of Dynamat insulating the cab. You can comfortably have conversation with each other in the cab. It does have a nice deep growl though.

      @@MotormasterK100 pretty much the end of the availability of the old 2-cycle Detroits. The 4-cycle Series 60 debuted a year or so later....I'm not so much on the "cosplay" stuff, but on the actual merits of the tractor itself. That was someone's pride&joy when it was sold new....

      Did you swap a 8v92 into it or did it already have one in it?

    • @MotormasterK100
      @MotormasterK100  7 лет назад

      IDreamOfDragons O , when I bought it, it was in a salvage yard with no engine or transmission. it originally came with a B model CAT, but the character demanded the roar of an 8v92

    • @idreamofdragonso5677

      lol was the swap hard?

    • @MotormasterK100
      @MotormasterK100  7 лет назад

      IDreamOfDragons O , overall it wasn't too bad. we found an 8v92 silver out of a k100c that we used the motor mounts from. re routing the cables for the cable shift so they wouldn't hit the v8 exhaust manifolds was probably the hardest part.

      @@thegoodtony3339 , you ask a good question. The answer is that two cycle Detroits, like this one, make their prime power high in the RPM range. These engine would actually prefer to run at wide open throttle, versus being lugged.

      Very astute. Most vehicles equipped with a 2 stroke GM/Detroit will indeed sound like a 2 stroke GM/Detroit. Obviously Motormaster doesn't work, (have you ever known any Decepticons to work an honest day's worth?) unless you count smashing Autobot skulls in.

      because of the very strict emission rules and everything is tight and small. i know there are a few american trucks in holland but they are show only. and you have to put other filters and stuff on for the emission. also straight pipes are not allowed.
