I wonder how well these engineers sleep at night.

You'd be surprised. There are ways to make sure that structures won't fail, even to very low likelihoods. Essentially, you can add factors of safety to absolutely everything until your computed probability of failure is as low as you want it to be, and it works, because contrary to popular belief, mankind knows physics pretty well.
In an anti-grav bed that defies the laws of physics.
@@acruzp Yes, as we know complexly structures never broke before because we know physics /s
Very well. They're not subject to guessing and being victim to illusions. They know that some of the funny structures they build are much more likely to remain standing than the building you are currently sitting in, lol. They know how the world around them is constructed, they know the tolerances and limits, YOU do not, lol. Everyone has seen shopping malls that look solid just collapse in on themselves and yet there are ancient bridges that are the original 'gravity defying' structures still stand today. Puts things in context when you think about it properly, doesn't it?!?!?
So the Grand Canyon platform can hold 120 Americans or 800+ normal people. Interesting fact! Excellent video!
Robert Prehn IM DEAD😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
American here, we got some folks that are so big i doubt The Grand Canyon Platform could hold even one of them...

phenomenal video as always from one of the best channels on RUclips
this comment made me subscribe to this channel
One should also point out the soundtracks that are being used in your videos..!!! It's just so soothing and compliments the video so well.
have any idea what it is?

The Montréal Olympic Stadium is absolutely impressive to see in real life. It really is one of the greatest modern building I've seen.
Yeah it’s pretty cool.
Love seeing the engineering behind these architectural wonders! It’s like a magician revealing their secrets.
More like Engineering wonders not architectural, most of the time its the engineers that get the headaches of architects ideas
You should mention that the Montreal tower is the most overpriced project anywhere in the world. Surpassing 20times the estimate cost.
Great video tho!
lol, worth it.
After looking closely, it's quite ugly actually. So, not worth it...C$1.61B for that? Seriously?
OCUBOX It’s hardly even much of a building tbh - 1.6 billion for a tower holding a roof and some offices - I imagine that something much, much bigger or more practical could be built and designed for that cost
OCUBOX
I have a "HOLY CRAP" moment every time I come close to it. Surely one of the most impressive structure on the planet.
Perhaps we should say it had one of the most inacurate price estimates instead?
@@klanny22 Yeah. Just because you can, doesnt mean that you should, right!? xD
No one:
My RUclips recommendations: structures that defy gravity
Me: well well well don't mind if I do
These videos are always of such good quality that I often find myself checking to see what definition it's playing in. I reckon my mind will finally blow when you make the switch to 4K.
Love this, so relaxing to watch yet so informative at the same time!
Leaning Tower of Pisa: _Am I a joke to you?_
If it defied gravity it would probably be the straight tower of Pisa ;)
The Leaning Tower of Pisa was never intended to be leaning by its designer. Just as the Titanic was never intended to be underwater by its builder.
wasn't it the sand under the tower that shifted and made the tower lean?
I know early drawings of the tower where it is straight.
@@prisonmike1874 the soil is more muddy and moist than sandy tbh

I love this channel. I just wish the US would switch over to the metric system for our units of measurement.
Why did you think it necessary to bring up this canard on this video? They actually quoted distances in meters. You want to use metric? You got your wish, so shut up already. It's a free country and I for one, don't appreciate you trying to force your preferences down other people's throats.
@@alanrhyason calling it archaic is really stupid because sure it was made using old practices, but it is just a different kind of measurement, that's all. It's not innacurate, or archaic and nonfunctional, its just a different form of measurement. I personally would like the switch but, it really is impractical and would take a while
I don't really know why we don't change? I believe most Americans know both. I learned the metric system around age ten in a small rural community school, So I can't imagine it not being applied in larger city schools, and this was back in the mid 70's
Anyway this channel uses the metric system...so I'm just wondering; is the fact that America still uses the imperial measuring system something that bothers you often? An while you're upset about America not using the metric system; don't forget Liberia, and Myanmar also do not use it. So now you have three reason to be annoyed all the time... Oh Snap! I bet you get aggravated when someone writes out the word of a number instead of just writing the number itself. 🤣
@@dlwatib Yikes, the metric system really hurt your feelings, didn't it?
Arbaaz Patwari the uk still has all of the road signs in imperial, but everyone also knows metric, and that’s what’s taught at school. Using both is not difficult, in only 20-30 years most people have become accustomed to both.

Great video! I know it’s secure, but that Grand Canyon observation deck would freak me out.
How many people per year pee themselves? I probably would.
I’ve done it and it’s creepy
Would be awesome, but definitely freaky, 20m is one hell of a cantilever!
Seems like it's over a plateau? Doesn't look that high to what's immediately under it.
@@Vlad-sj5yw something like 160 yards? 175 meters?

Another incredibly cool and engaging video from The B1M. Thanks so much for posting.
Please do a collab video with Wendover! That would be truly fantastilicious! How about “Airport 2035: The Era of Electric Planes” or “Vertical Cities of the Future: Life above the clouds” or “The Home in the 21st Century: Smart Cities, New Materials and Modularity” or “How to tackle traffic in Los Angeles: Don’t drive”

I live in Sydney and walk past One Central Park all the time and barely glimpse at it because I'm so used to it being there, but this gives me an appreciation that I would have never probably had! I look forward to your videos every week!
I love to drive over the Timmelsjoch pass with my motorcycle! It is an beautiful experience.

Thanks for sharing
Absolutely wonderful. Without this great channel, I wouldn't know half these works existed!!
Stunning, thanks B1M 👍
Remarkable presentation. Thank you B1M. Ive watched all of your videos already.
Wow, thanks so much! ✊
Im a Civil Engr by Profession and I find all your videos informative and exciting.
What's not known about One Central Park is that the mirrors will calibrate and focus sunlight into a death laser upon any Melbournians in range.
Sad that you don't show MASP in Sao Paolo, it is a true building marvel! A giant box floating in mid air!
I love these videos! I'm not architect, designer, or a world traveler. The privilege your expertise brings to my ordinary life: to observe and have explained plainly, accomplishments of wonder...and just flat out cool stuff, lol, is really appreciated.
This was very interesting. It looks so weird to see the futuristic green skyscrapers rise next to low residential districts. Hope the future goes later also in smaller low residential zones and not only in skyscrapers. Cool video :)
The museum in the mountains is the best. it just floats so seemingly effortlessly. High concept stuff that would give you an A+ in any master thesis
Once again bravo B1M 👏 My family and I have a huge appreciation for the time and effort in putting together such fantastic .. very enjoyable videos for us to see how sensational the human mind can be to create such engineering wonders! Thank you again! 🙏🏼
I love these videos! I the buildings look like from a science fiction film. ❤️
from the architects pencil tip, to the engineering, to the construction. getting it all right is honestly astonishingly impressive

This is a great engineering and architectural breakthrough! Nice video as usual.

Amazing, interesting, and worthwhile video. These architectural structures are marvels and the future no doubt will bring even more amazing architectural illusions.

Great topic. Your channel is truly a RUclips standout.

I remember being at Montreal olympic stadium observatory with my dad, what a view there was! I personally always enjoyed seeing it each time it was in my eyesight.
That inspired awe. Thank you.
actually I'did subscribed cose your videos really deserves and I really enjoyed 👍
Your voice is so soothing. I could watch your videos all day
Have seen the cantilevered building in Beijing 3 times over the past decade. It never gets old or comfortable and simply appears like it's going to collapse at any moment. Such a gutsy engineering project!!! The comment about erecting steel members in the morning is of particular brilliance. Good thing I'm not an engineer wouldn't have ever thought of that.
Stunning architecture!
I would also mention Calatravas Puente del Alamillo in Seville as an example of outstanding bridge construction.
¡Excellent! Thank you so much, indeed
I have to say I love the artistic, and curved forms of modern buildings, and towers.
Well presented and interesting content. Thanks from Orlando Florida
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching from London, UK 🇬🇧
I'd like to see more reviews about technology beyond sky gardens & indoor waterfall
Wow this channel has grown FAST
Those are some magnificent wonders of Engineering
The Unasur Building located in Quito, Ecuador would have been a nice addition to this video. Keep up the good work 👍
That timmelsjoch pass museum is amazing :O
I love cantilever structures, these are so cool
I attended an event in Montreal which utilized the aging plaza surrounding the stadium and tower over 7 days in August 2017. The imposing tower must've reopened the following year after renovations as it wasn't open at the time.
What I can say about it is that it creates a highly visible and distinctive landmark on that side of the island. Depending on one's location, it may be possible to orient oneself in relation to the Montreal Tower, Mount Royal itself, the commercial high-rises and skyscrapers of downtown, or St. Joseph's Oratory, roughly on the opposite side of the mountain from the Olympic Stadium.
Amazing buildings!
3:38 Jasper National Park in Canada has that too!
Good job keep the work up
Thanks! We will ✊️
Awesome
You should have done the Guthrie theaters “never ending bridge”. It is two floors and extends 178 Feet out giving great views of the Mississippi River and the city of Minneapolis from its observation deck. It is a must see if you visit the city Minneapolis MN.

I spent some of my early years in Beijing and I remember going past the cmg headquarters while it's under construction every once in a while and seeing the progress. The locals nicknamed something similar to the 'big trousers'. Lol brings back memories... And now I live in Sydney... I go past the one central park building every once in a while too. They are truly amazing structures tho.
Is there a video out there that goes into detail on exactly how these types of structures are built? Interested in the engineering behind these buildings...

Olympic stadium in Montreal !!!!
creative
The music used is so good.
Its worth mentioning that the Olympic stadium in Montreal keep collapsing. Idk if we should praise it since it can't even stay up for a decade without having a major incident.
Regardless , very nice video !
The roof is, not the tower.
