      The stability control helps to prevent the car from losing control. And what it does, is it works automatically to help the driver maintain control of the steering of the car, during hard steering maneuvers.

    Before watching the video let me say YES, you can drift it. I used to have a "winter beater" E61 530d 218hp car that I used for a year a beat the crap out of it. It was absolutely perfect for drifting in the snow. The car was extremely smooth and pleasant to drive due to the long wheelbase. The boaty suspension is super good for doing rally type snow drifting in the mountains where you need the suspension travel. Just weld the diff, put on some tires with spikes and go in the mountains rallying.

    E60 slides so easily on hard surface because of its long wheelbase, it feels stable and doesn't fight you as much as E46 or some shorter wheelbase cars would. In my possession I have Mercedes C220cdi coupe and E46 320i 2.2L sedan, they're both pretty volatile and fun, but there is something about my daily F11 530d when going sideways, once it's sideways, it just does the work for me and I don't have to apply too much input, feels like a casual sideslide :D

    Also btw I've had two e60s that I've drifted. I notied at high angle you really felt the ackerman steering making the front tires rub against the road in an unpleasant way, which made the front of the car vibrate a lot. If you wanna do any serious drifting with it you need to find a way to get the ackerman down to 0 but with the stock front suspension setup I don't really think there is a way. The Wisefab for this car which is out of the E90 chassis with adapter kit replaces the whole front geometry and makes it so you have 1 arm per wheel instead of 2, like in the style of e36 and e46.

    I agree that the E60 is a good car. I've owned a 2005 520i for almost a year and a half and it's been very reliable. I don't get the hate online. I have had some minor issues that required diagnosing, but overall nothing too expensive. I've driven it around 15 thousand kilometers since I bought it. I'm not suprised you were able to drift the car decently, because I've been able to drift my 520i 2.2L 170hp bone stock as well on wet ground (not that well, but fine considering it has a open diff). I even did it with the automatic transimission. But it does help that you can manually select gears with the automatic, and that the car is over 100kg lighter than a 525d (around 1495 kg).

    • @mattar8432
      @mattar8432 Год назад

      Try using XHP Flashtool for tuning your gearbox. This way, you can do similar things as you would with a manual transmission. In manual mode (M/S), the gearbox doesn't shift gears, and you can rev it up to redline.

    • @stoyanstefanov5460
      @stoyanstefanov5460 2 года назад

      The e60 DOES have a gauge though, it's just integrated in the odometer. On the right side of it, near the 4-5k RPM mark, the stripes act as the temp gauge, and will be full up to like the 3k RPM mark, when the car is cold, and will start going down as it warms up. E9X series don't have that feature sadly.

    I have e60 525d on automatic gearbox and i tried to drift in winter and it was awful. The engine is good in winter, it has enough power but e60 chassis has a very very small steering angle, every quick move bring to spin around front axle. This winter i got diy angle kit based on unicorn angle kit for e90, but in st. Petersburg is still no fckng snow in january, so i can’t test it 😭

      Worse gearbox at lci e6* models? I have experienced otherwise, my preface chipped m57 have looong gear shifts compared to the facelifted models that shifts right away haha

    • @homelesslenk5963

      @@thomasbacker8162 Yeah the LCI has a 19Z (same as 2.0 n47) and preface has the 26Z which is the same as 530D exc. I assume cuz when kept original the 19Z is smoother exc, but it handles less NM so u shoudnt kickdown as much as on the 26Z which handles up to 700NM on paper which is safe (i am talking about automatics here not manual)

      @@homelesslenk5963 yeah i got that haha cause i have the pre 525d automatic myself as said and it uses way to long to shift so ofc a oil and filter change will be done soon but i am not sure that will help that problem in such a bigger grade and shift as fast and nice as the n47 automatic box do, but yeah i see everyone with a lci 525d Auto chipp their car so they overcome that nm limit to the lci transes but no complaints on gearbox failer so idk how t why they are so lucky xD

  • @absitinvidia3948
    @absitinvidia3948 Год назад

    Yes you can i have drifted my e46 330d and she goes sideways prety easy even with open diff. And 177 and 204 hp is not big difference. And weight is probably similar my car is around 1500 kg. I wish i would find out parking space for more practise closer but i have to drive outside of city so somebody would not call police and its kinda hard to find places with enough space to conect few turns. I like petrol engines more but diesel gives crazy low fuel consuption even when i trash her like crazy and hoon around she is more economical than all my petrol cars including peugeot 206 with 1.4 petrol engine which is comical. With trashing she consumes 6.5 liters per 100km average if i drive normaly she drops to 5.8 liters oer 100km and my ex 145 qv and mx3 gs would harly ever drop under 11-12 liters per 100km. If i had more money i would like to daily 330i but that would be 3 times more expensive.

    I donno what are your long term plans with this beater project. But as always, i have to compare it to your beater compact 🤪 (my fav of your cars).
    The diesel is a good base (lots of torque), but a welded diff sure would make a big jump, remaping the ecu, in turbo diesel car that can do big.
    The big long body is a good thing (dont want to go into the physics of drifting, why long wheelbase is good, im sure you know it), but this e60 sure need a serious diet. Throw out every useless shit not needed for having fun.
    Strut bars, coilovers, and a nice hydro e-brake (stock is electronic if im right), and done 🤪
