The animations make this show perfect to me, whilst i enjoy listening to it, the cartoon portrayals of each situation are the absolute icing on the cake 😂
You might have noticed how tall Stephen Merchant is when they walked in. He's 6'7". He tells the story about one time in the middle of a New Year's Eve crowd, he thought he might be making a connection with a young lady who came up to him - but she just wanted to know if he was going to be standing there for a while, so she could use him as a landmark that she and her friends could meet at later.
I only discovered you guys 2 days ago and I’ve watched all of your comedy reactions already. You guys are such a breath of air from a lot of the reaction channels I’ve seen. You still laugh at jokes that are inappropriate, something a lot of people have been scared out of. Comedy from the 90’s & 00’s was definitely edgier but if we’re all honest with ourselves, it was also the funniest. Keep up the great work guys. Much love.
To be fair I first listened to it a decade ago while on the commute. Now I listen to it to go to sleep.. so I get the point.. sitting down and listening is a bit strange for a podcast.. still funny though
That "Russian wood" shop is called "Iconastas". They had a store in Piccadilly Arcade in London. The owner sadly died in 2019 and its been shut since. They have a site though under the same name as the shop which shows off some of the collection
The dolphin story is real, there is a 2005 article from The Guardian about it. Karl just got a few key details wrong, including the fact that the dolphins were armed with toxic darts, not firearms.
The documentary series they're talking about at the start is called Tribe and was presented by Bruce Parry. It's one of the best TV programmes ever made.
I've been to Papua New Guinea (PNG). We went on a canoe trip to the back country and, to my astonishment, in isolated villages we'd meet people who'd been to Oxford University, spoke the Queen's English! Another memorable moment was when I briefly interacted with a tree kangaroo. Yes, kangaroos are isolated in PNG to an extent that, with no natural predators they gravitated into trees (there's a lot of them and no real plains to hop around in). They're much smaller than your average Australian kangaroo and it's very weird to see them hopping around in trees. Very muscular with short fur, they are an attractive if strange creature.
29:52 also, I hear what you’re saying,,, BUT keep watching. Theres an episode coming up which will relate to what you’re talking about right now. Karl writing a story. It’s hilarious and I’d actually watch it 😂😂
They do offer colonics in spas in the UK. At least they did when I was stationed there in 2007-2009. One Monday my shop chief came into the shop bragging about feeling 10 lbs lighter because he got a colonic at a spa. He described it exactly as Karl did, clear tube and all.
i don't get how the animators' work isn't keeping you entertained. there are some shows i can only watch reaction videos of or otherwise they bore me and idiot abroad was one of them, couldn't get through a single episode without feeling bored but this is like my favorite cartoon of all time, i don't even see it as a podcast. funny how we are like reverse of one another :)
Your problem seems to be you're waiting for the buildup and a payoff instead of just listening and enjoying the conversation. It's not standup comedy, it's just 3 guys having a conversation.
We don't expect that at all. We listen to plenty of podcasts. Just not while sitting down. We are used to putting on a podcast while doing work or traveling. It just feels a bit odd to us is all.
@@RNTV I guess Ricky wasn't thinking about you (whoever you are) and your routines when he came up with the show. Maybe you should tweet him, let him know exactly how many times he should have interrupted Karl so that YOU could have found it more funny. Do you hear yourself?
@@stevengauger3974 dude you do not need to be here. take your own advice and respect the creator, in this case of the reaction, to do what they want. Awesome you started Idiot Abroad too! I would have liked to have been able to put it up in 1080p, but it was one of the first things I uploaded here, and at the time RUclips didn't accept MKV files, which was most of the file types I had. So I had to settle for my 720p mp4s. It was still a huge improvement over the usual 240p/360p uploads of it on here people reacted to. Most of what Karl says is true, he just completely gets the details wrong. Obviously the US navy do use dolphins for warfare but for placing mines etc like you'd train a dog and Katrina probably just caused some to get out, then Karl adds the guns and rocket launchers himself 😂 Incidentally, my ex used to think the Navy SEALS were actually seals
Years ago my father heard a man who was flabbergasted to read in the newspaper that foreign nations were arming the guerrilla army in the Angola War. The man was ranting that apes were being given guns. 🐒
No offense intended because these are good reactions, but how can 20 minutes runtime 'drag on'. The show moves at a fair pace. And you're truly not getting the humor if Gervais's irritation and interruption is the part you don't like. That's key to monkey news. It's how it winds up Ricky as much as the insane content. Maybe you need to watch more.
We watched An Idiot Abroad after this and it felt shorter. We are not used to sitting down in one place listening to a podcast. I was fighting off a giant yawn the entire time 😅

Haha the monkey news bit had been going on for years by this point. Ricky both loves and hates it at the same time. The same as Karl's game "Rockbusters" which isn't in any of these animated shows.
Karl doesn't get all the details right but the dolphin story does have a basis in reality. Dolphins are sometimes used in times in war. They have bombs strapped to them and are trained to target enemy ships.

There are still uncontacted primitive tribes still living today just as they were in the stone age, remember? One Example is the Sentinelese in the Indian ocean Islands, the other are the Mascho piro in the Amazon.
Not exactly homeless if you built a type of building to live in and have foundation and been there for long time you are classed as a settler and not homeless person , a homeless person is someone who moves from one place to another that he or she can find to get sleep . so no the chap was not homeless lol.... he was a settler living in a country ,that is the difference between native north Americans as they would roam the country going where the food was and water supplies and not settled in one area and abducted other women and children due to having the population of there tribe being kidnapped .by other tribes. That was the norm for them , the desert tribes were the dangerous type.
Madness is Karl’s right, us had dolphins that were employed by the naval military and also get retired after 20 years of service 😂 they had nose cones with like a spear only, operated remotely
