I am about to clone my neighbor's grapefruit and lemon tree. That's why I'm watching this hehe
Kindly provide me with an update 😂 😂
I did 6 of these 3 months back. I used rooting hormone too. 5 died but the last one is flying. Growing new leaves now. Thanks for the vid!
All of mine died first time I tried. Second time I put clear plastic (like ziplock) bags over the whole plant. All three of them survived and are doing well. No rooting hormone.
@@jko8888what was the temperature the first time?
@darija5494
I do this exact method for all propagation of succulents and even my palm trees. Works like a charm. I have it in my shed where it reaches anywhere between 60 degrees and 80 degrees.
The plants love humidity but be careful as too much can cause the main stem to break easily.
As soon as it develops roots plant it in a small pot
i did the same but they all passed
I tried this method and I succed.thank you for making this video
Thanks for sharing that looks super easy!
Thank you for this interesting and informative video!
Lovely information! Thanks for sharing 🍋
Greetings from Orlando, Florida. Thanks for the great tip (pun intended) :-)
Crikey! You make it look so easy.
That's great! It seems much easyer than growing by seeds. I'll try it too. Greetings from Northern Germany.
Great info thanks, Also great to have no annoying back ground music, Cheers
Nice video! I am about to try this with some key lime trees and Meyer lemon trees that we have growing in containers.
Yay! I’m going to try this w my variegated lemon tree. Thanks for the east tip.
Did this method work for you?
I like this video you start with a larger plant.
Excellent work bro 👍👍👍
I took cuttings Put them in water. Once they started showing roots I put them in plastic drink cups in soil Set the cups in water. Did not have to worry about the cuttings getting dry.
Brilliant!
Super. You know what you do. Thanks 🙏
Seems too easy. Soil doesn't matter or root hormones. I'm impressed!
Decades ago there was no rooting hormones and no store-bought potting soil.
Hundreds of years ago, people were planting orchards, but very few knew about grafting and air-layering.
Mine came from seeds, but I don't care about improved varieties. Seeds produce mixed results, some bad, some good. One of my tangerine trees has small fruit that has 15 to 30 seeds and little edible flesh.
If it works 10% of the time, it's probably worth it to some people. I have a couple of wonderful trees, but one got freeze damaged and is struggling - 10% success is worth the effort.
I am going to try this as well with our Lemon trees! I am a greenhorn gardener. But you show and explain things so easily to understand! Thank you, I think I’m going to learn a lot from you! Greetings from Arizona USA! And May all your trees be full of every good thing!
Update?
My neighbor in Tucson has blooming lemon n orange trees made friends n started some clones that I know are successful in this climate already
Nice my frieand 🌹
s.a. thank you my friend.
Thanks for sharing your information..
s.a. You are welcome and thank you my friend.
Perfect
Nice lemons mate :)
cheers mate, its a dwarf lemon but has the heart of a full size tree :)
Does the bottom node have to be cut thru for roots to grow? How to prune as it grows, wait a few years ?
Have you tried rooting citrus leaf? I succeeded its an worth trying method and economical
What would your suggestion be for soil for that lemon tree???
in what tempt did you have your cuttings?
Hi can I ask about lemon tree cuttings. I did a air layer on one of the lemon branches and it was looking good to start with but started going backwards and very yellow in then brown. It had a few roots on it so I cut it and then cut all the bad yellow leaves and put some rooting hormone on the roots and put it in a container that is so far working for my either cuttings. Will it survive?
Good day mate.
@cyber gardens
Can you take and grow passion fruit, fejoa cuttings also in the same way?????
You can practise this for which type of soil? And how time you irrigate that issue
Do you keep the cuttings in the sun or shade?
Will this technique also work on other kinds of citrus, like tangerine and grapefruit?
Will this create an identical plant? or will it be varied in flavor?
Sir can i do this any time of the year or only certain season of the year? Thanks.
does it work even if there isnt another plant?
Do you need to have lemons grafted for them to grow fruit?
How often should we water it ?
What about putting it in a water? Can it root this way?
Which season we can do this? Or...doesn't matter, any season will do? Thanks
I just pruned my mandarin so I'm giving this a shot with what I cut off. I did add some rooting hormone and put them in a pot with my small dragon trees. I'm in Canada so this is indoors right now. No idea if it'll actually take but I have nothing to lose.
Did it work
Did your mandarins root?
I tried this and mine all died. However, I did no get a strong cutting like the one in the video the ones I had were much smaller, and they did not survive. They did survive covered in a box though.
If we shall use this process then how many temperature have to mentan
Would this work with an orange tree too?
They can be green cuttings?
Did you place pot in full sun?
How about comquat would it work in the same way
In which season we can do this?
How long does it take to flowers
عالی
IMPORTANT QUESTION: Once you plant the cutting, what degree of sunlight or light does it need? You did not mention the conditions. should it be cold, hot, medium and bright, dark, partial light and does it require fake light, real sunlight. We need details please.
search up "how to take care of a lemon tree" this is not a video about how to do that it is about starting a cutting
This is not a good video clips on propagating lemon trees. Your question is legit. Dipping the cutting part in the rooting powder is recommended, since it would speed up the process of rooting, therefore limiting the failure rate. Also keep them in the shade in moisture condition. That means this method would have high successful rate in southern states like TX, FL, GA, while low rate in AZ, NM, the desert... avoid direct sunlight, wind, also important.
Hi!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on how to do this! So I don’t need any root powder? And how often should I water it?
Also, does it need to go in a pot with an already established root system from another plant?
how's your success rate with this method?
What if it’s already fruiting?
Interesting, I've never seen it done without rooting hormone.
people fall so easily for scams
How come my doesn’t work?
Why no rooting hormone?
Which is better method to propagate citrus plants? Cutting or Air Layering?
Air layering: most citrus can be propagated this way. Some citrus like pomelo have low success rate with cuttings although it is a quicker method ( based on experience: citrus cuttings root at the 2nd to 4rth week whilst airlayering citrus roots at the first 1 to 1 1/2 months ). Keep in mind that lemons have the highest success rate amongst the citruses when it comes to cuttings.
Do you pot the lemon tree in its own pot? When can you plant it after rooting it? Thanks
Yes
When will it fruit?
Hi, thanks for your wonderful video. Does the new plant assume the age of the original tree or is it as a new plant?
great question. i dont know the exact answer. when i transplant it fruits, so it seems to have the original age of the mother plant in sapling form.
it takes a year to get a good root ball and then another year or two for small fruit to appear.. but im not sure if its due to the small pot and root shock.
thanks for watching. [apologies for the huge delay in replying.. i've been off-air since the family funeral.]
they new plant has the exact same DNA as the mother plant
So can you do this with tangelo trees?
slippery mud great question.
i havent tried exotic citrus yet, but im confident it will work the same. i learn by trying it myself because my grafts always died. cloning cuttings was easier for me.
my rule of thumb is, *fresh green cuttings with shaved leaves* and you cant go wrong.
[TIP] put some honey on the angled cut to prevent disease or rot.
do not overwater and keep in shade.
thanks 👌
please let us know how you went if you get the chance 👍
Thanks , its first time I've seen propagation lemon by cutting. So could you please tell me if this method can replaced by grafting? Or if new lemon is 100% like the main lemon tree?
Yes, you can get the exact genetic replica of the original plant by grafting, air layering or in the case of citrus, by planting cuttings as well. I usually plant about 50 cuttings, out of which I get 10 good plants, sometimes less or more. And the taste of the fruits is the same because the branch the plant grew out of was part of the same larger tree.
@@xo7454 ~ Rooting depends on your location, geography, soil, weather, humidity, heat or the strength of the sunlight, the maturity of the cuttings you choose, the tree you choose (to get the cuttings from) & very many other factors. I live in the southern part of Bharat (India) where we have tropical, hot & humid weather & it rains a lot, which naturally facilitates early rooting of any cuttings (citrus, guava, pomegranate, flowering plants etc). Typically, for me, it takes about anywhere from a month to 3 months to get some solid roots. I try not to rush things. Once, I have the cuttings with good roots, I transfer them to pots with new soil & organic manure like cow dung. I keep them growing that way for another few months, depending on the condition of the cuttings, before I transfer them, plant them on to the soil on the ground. Again, there are not hard rules on this. You really have to experiment & monitor them. For me, this is loads of fun, so I wouldn't mind doing it. Of course, I have had very many failures (nature is NEVER in our control = In fact, we are part of nature), but you work at it over & over again until you're successful. So why not try this yourself & have fun? :)
Just watch this video and I will do it today ! Thank you!
How long till it bare fruits?
how long does it take for the cutting to give fruit??
expect 1 year
Can you do passion fruit cutting
Yes,they will grow
good question. i havent tried passionfruit cuttings yet. i will do and see what happens.
if you want immediate and lots of fruit, its better to plant a grafted vine (much easier). a cutting would be taken from an ungrafted plant proven to bear fruit... i will try for you.
thanks.
[apologies for the huge delay in replying.. i've been off-air since the family funeral.]
Ive done this a half dozen times for a half dozen failures 😮
I took a cutting from my lemon tree before watching this video, it hasn’t died and has about 2 leaves on the stem but….. it’s started to flower! What do I do? Just go with it or remove the flowers? Clearly I don’t want fruit on it, it’s only about 6 inches long.
remove the flower buds to save energy for the roots to grow, we want leaves and roots to form. be patient, when the second and third set of leaves appear its happy days.
thanks for watching, good luck 🌱
My god he doesn't even use any root promoter. Great idea to use an existing root ecosystem that has already established the fungus network with the plants. Usually one is afraid of the resources being taken, but here the support gets it going then you split it before the relationship turns sour... keke I need lemon trees so badly they're banned from sale here !!!
V českém jazyce,Dékuji
So you don’t use a routing hormone any kind of soil not very much specifics on this video
If you put it with another plant, that’s already growing, the root systems will help each other activate to grow. It’s your poor man’s growing hormone. I put orchid roots in with my plants and it helps them grow.
You don't need a rooting hormone, they just help get things going
these camera angles are brutal! you can’t sheen see what he does during it…
Oil your tool!!
