Excellent job - also, in case you'll be bored and have some extra time, could you add timestamps for secrets? Similar to how the steam guides have them, which is excellent for quick and easy orientation. Also, I would suggest adding Nintendo to the name of the video, so it's easier to find. Initially, I was only able to find your old video.
I remembered growing up with this version of Quake 2 as a kid, Sure...the music and enemies were scary for my little self to handle, but now hearing about THIS version of Quake 2 being available for the remaster of Quake 2?! HOO BOY! I had a LOT of fun reliving that experience! Great video! You earned my like for sure! :) My only small complaint is that they could've made the BFG10k and Railgun their proper colors from the N64 version. (It would've been a nice nod to that version.) (...Aaaand maybe the HUD too.) I heard there is a mod for the N64 HUD somewhere on the internet too, I made sure to install it to get that true Quake 2 N64 experience! Aw yeah!
Nearly 30 minutes faster than the N64 version. Now you can see why PC performance with Mouse + Keyboard controls can save a significant amount of time in a fast paced 90s era FPS game.
Cool to see you playing this again. 😎 There is discussion of the leaderboard currently happening for the remaster. Sad to say the full game any% looks to be slower than expected at this time.. maybe 30 seconds faster if it's a solid run. Without the ability to skip the fadeout cutscenes at the end of levels, it adds on a lot of time compared to the original. More science is needed still for certain. Hope to see you play some more of this, and the original version in the future! *Update* It's faster.. never say never in speedrunning. Lol
Yeah the unskippable ending shots are a bummer. I would rather still play this version for consistency and quick saves before death risk jump strats. Level 4 has a grenade jump you can do to reach the higher floor which I find it easier to use on a dead body atm. Right now I am doing runs on Easy 100% which should be faster than N64 thanks to better aiming/movement. Edit: Read your tweaked comment. "Woop woop!"
In the remaster some items / enemies share the same properties across the different campaigns, so the Power Shield being a permanent item for the whole campaign means it's the same item from the original PC version and not a "different" item like the Quad Damage (which works as inventory item in the PC version compared to here where is an instant Power-Up), this is probably a compromise made due to the Power Shield having its own settings in the menu related to how it should be activated. Also, no, enemies jump behavior is a brand new thing for the remaster even for the PC build, again, it's tied to how they re-use the same enemies across the different campaigns. It can "break" some stuffs, like I'm sure enemies in level 9 aren't really suppose to reach you from the starting platform, yet they do here in the remaster.
Yeah, after this playthrough, I saw how there are a few options from the menu dedicated to the Power Shield. So I set it to manual for my N64 Maps 100% Easy speedruns so that I don't use up cells for taking damage.
Nice to see in the development notes that there was a scrapped weapon scope that would use 1 cell per zoom and enable some sort of auto targeting. This multifunction use of cells combined with the hub structure of the levels shows that Quake 2 was aiming for greater complexity than most shooters, almost being RPG like (a bit of a stretch, I know). Unfortunately a bunch of snarky jokes and self-important ethos made Half-life appear to be the more 'intelligent' game at the time. At least that's what it was selling at the time. Looking back after 2 decades I can see which game was the pretensious one and which one was intelligently crafted to please the audience.
@@DukeBluedevil70 Oof. Must been a little tetchy when I typed this. The scope factoid can be found in the ID vault that comes with the latest release and the the Quake 2 loyalism comes from seeing it's merits on the N64. I do tend to ramble about industry trends but not all works are appreciated on time 😉
After having only played the og n64 version, the leaping Berserkers were a shock to say the least

Should utilise the weapon wheel more.
❤ From where I can download this full Quake 2 pack?

@@InfinityandEternity You have a very emotional, submissive style of writing and you should honestly correct that because it’s embarrassing.
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And love N64 games !
I prefer the original.
