  • We were shocked to learn that Malaysia's most famous street food was a hamburger! So we had to give it a try and see if it was worth the hype! 🍔
This was one of the foods that locals recommended the most! We hope you enjoy our first time trying the famous Ramly burger and our reactions to our first bite. It was another fun way to get to know Kuala Lumpur, a city we completely fell in love with!
Thank you so much for watching and we will see you in the next video with a food tour around Kuala Lumpur! This city has the best food we've had in our lives 🤤
    XO,
    Aimara & Gordon

Had a german exchange student join my class way back during my high school years until graduation, went out to eat and during a conversation they said they hadn't tried a ramly, so after we finished our dinner we headed out and went for dinner round two at a ramly truck at ss15 called the burger shop.
He was blown away like his life was wasted not eating this sooner. Then he spent the following 6 months here in malaysia eating at any ramly's as an after dinner snack or some 3 in one go for dinner. When he went back to germany he was craving this. The only time he got to eat this was when his family would come here for vacation once or twice a year.
Heard there were a few malaysians overseas starting their ramly burger biz since ppl can't get it over there.

One of the finer aspects of burger crafting is in most restaurants, the chicken and beef burgers have different recipes. Chefs would put stuffs that best enhance/complement the beef or chicken, and don't simply add the same things in both. You can see this in McDonald's, Burger King and so on.
But for Ramly burger, they put the same ingredients for both (at least in my experience). So when I see you trying to figure out the difference between the chicken and the beef burger, I would say it's very very similar apart from the taste and texture of the burger patties.
I wouldn't say it's bad. It's just the character of the Ramly burger ;).

Malaysia has 13 states with different food available.
Hope you will get to try them all!
My favourites from my home state Penang are:
    1. Char Koay Teow
    2. Laksa Siam/Lemak
    3. Assam Laksa
    4. Penang white curry mee
It is possible to find them in KL or Petaljng Jaya, the city next to KL, but you need to know where to look for the good ones. Some can be terrible compared to what you get in Penang.
    Others I like are:
    1. Satay (the peanut sauce of each state may differ a bit)
    2. Sarawak Laksa(possible to fine in KL or PJ, but I’m told the real McCoy is in Sarawak)
    3. Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (KL)
If you have the chance, try Nasi Dagang too!

True Ramly burger experience is the exact sauces, egg wrap, patty, and bread. I tried to do it myself with other ingredients but it is not that exact taste. This is hard to replicate if you're living overseas especially if you want to get the patties and the soft bun. You can order the Longson and blackpepper sauce tho. The powders are curry, some mixed kaskas/poppy seed powder and pepper

Nowadays there are many imitation burger patties that are not from the Ramly company. You should check the packaging of to determine whether it is genuine or imitation from another company. In the 1970s, the founder of Ramly company went to the bank to apply for a loan to advance his company, but the loan was rejected by the bank. The banker said that no one in Malaysia eats burgers. This is the history of Ramly.

Best avoid the daging burger because the beef doesn't meet the health requirements of most countries. Even close by Singapore won't allow their import and the same is true in Australia, New Zealand, the US and EU.

You won't find many burgers stalls in the city, but you will easily find them in residential areas and villages.
Burgers had evolved over the decades. It just began as either standard chicken, beef or egg (benjo) burgers. And the price at that time was around RM1.50 to 1.80.
Than slice of cheese was added. Then pepper. Then seasoning or soy sauce. Then mayonaise.
Then specials were created. Which means the patty would be wrapped in omelette (just to get the picture).
And now the very extreme variant is the double special with cheese which can cost as high as rm12.
There is a new version of burger called oblong (because of its shape). Have fun for the rest of your stay in malaysia.
We have mountains if you love hiking, deep nature tropical forest if you like trailing, we have beautiful white beaches and islands with clear water and its habitat.
And in order to preserve extinct animals, you could also plan a visit to an elephant sanctuary, turtle sancuaries and also orang utan.

@Ways of the World dagjng in malay actually mean meat. But here they relate to beef. Because for Hindus and buddhists beef are not consumed. So the word beef was not used. While pork is not consumed by Muslims. So overall chicken and goat(mutton) can be consumed by all.

Daging actually means meat.. Lembu mean cow.. it should be Daging Lembu for beef.. which translate to cow meat.. there's no word for beef in Malay..

cool! thanks for the heads up :) on the menu it just said 'daging,' so I guess beef is implied for the burgers.
