    That red rocketship model is actually made from the model used ship from Flight of the Navigator (1986).

    • @Darkk6969
      @Darkk6969 Год назад +1

      @@robertnove528 Yep, some genius thought the Rocket-Rod was a great idea which ruined those tracks. The main reason the original people mover was shut down is due to lack of sponsorship to maintain the constant replacements of those Goodyear tires. The one at DisneyWorld uses induction which is a better design.

    Oh my gosh, I'll never forget the first time I rode the WEDway People Mover at the Magic Kingdom. It was in 1977, 2 years after it opened. I was 14 and a group from my junior high went on a field trip to WDW (one of the perks of living 45 minutes away.) I was too afraid to go on Space Mountain with the rest of the group*, so I opted for the peoplemover. I was nice and relaxed...until I heard the announcer say "Now entering Space Mountain" and I freaked out! I thought the peoplemover was just going to merge into the Space Mountain ride, and of course, there's no seat belts or safety bars to hold you in. Once we got inside the ride, I quickly realized it was not going to turn into an unexpected roller coaster ride, so I relaxed. But it really got my heart going for a minute! Lol

    • @kareninalabama

      *the year before, I'd gone to Busch Gardens with my family and decided to ride the Python, which had just opened. It was the first roller coaster in the park, and the first double corkscrew coaster I'd ever heard of. I went on it by myself, and when the attendant said to push on the safety bar to make sure it was locked in place, I discovered mine was not. I tried to get the attention of one of the employees, but it was too late. All I could think to do was tightly wrap my purse strap around my hand so that if I fell off the ride when it went upside down, my identification would stay with me so my family would know what happened to me. I really thought I was going to die, but of course, centrifugal force kept me in my seat. But after that experience, I wasn't keen on trying roller coasters again. I eventually overcame my fear and did try Space Mountain. It was fun but turned out to be pretty tame.

    The original Disneyland one ran on rubber tires spaced at intervals, not linear induction. Is this part of why they’re not bringing it back?

    • @Darkk6969
      @Darkk6969 Год назад

      Yes. Replacing those tires cost too much so they decided to drop it at some point. I was a bit surprised they didn't upgrade it to induction version. Probably cost too much before some genius came up with the Rocket-Rod. Now those tracks are damaged so it can't be used again.

    Just the most relaxing coaster ride I've ever seen. Wish I could ride it. Would prob go on it at least ten times before a day ended at the park if I ever went to Disneyland. It's a great "starter" coaster to take young kids on. Also, it would be nice if it could be made into a "haunted" ride around Halloween, though. It looks so relaxing to me. 👍😻😍👍

    As much as Disneyland was supposed to be about change, I too, miss the Peoplemover. I have two autistic grandsons, who cannot enjoy attractions that are faced-paced, touting loud and flashy special effects and high speeds. The Peoplemover was a ride where not only tired parents and children could get a little rest, but those who were older, or handicapped could enjoy a pleasant experience, as well. The Rocket Rods did wreck the tracks beyond refurbishing, and Disney will never bring the attraction back, it is something those of us who were fortune to experience will remember for the rest of our days
