This was the end of 5 year run for the Orioles, plus Jon Miller and Dave Johnson were gone. Started a streak of 14 years of losing baseball in Baltimore.
@@daveythegambler6312 I kno loose that stupid cartoon bird logo. Go back to 89 uniforms, with natching Shoes please. And loose those stupid nets. At least on one side..
Those powerful 1990s Mariners teams were the perfect example of good pitching beating good hitting. 11 runs total in 4 games in this series - for a team that would often times score 10+ runs in a game. Great offense in baseball is fun and entertaining to watch, but you can't just bash your way to a World Series title.
This shows how much he improved as a pitcher because he was so wild early in his career and dependent on velocity yet here he is with his velocity not the best, gets a tough break and still pitchs a strong complete game in the playoffs during the height of the offensive explosion. In fact, this was one of his best seasons, but I'm pretty sure he generally threw harder during his first stint in Arizona and even often enough his first season with the Yankees than he did at times this season. Amazing a guy notoriously wild developed such pinpoint control.
As much as Randy did sometimes slip in the playoffs and not always quite live up to his regular season play (2001 considered the year he changed that idea), only getting 1 run from Griffey/A-Rod/Martinez hurts. Giving up 3 runs to those Baltimore teams of the 90s is highly impressive and had his stacked offence even played average he’d have won
Arizona would go on to win a WS with the two-headed monster that was RJ and Curt Schilling, with much lesser bats and bully than that Mariners club. Pitching pitching pitching
I'm a Yankee fan who first taste of playoff baseball was the Mariners crushing Mattingly's last hope of getting a ring in 1995 right after the Yankees went into the 1994 strike with the best record in the AL. As much as Mattingly not getting a ring still stings after all these years it's an absolute CRIME that Mariners team never won a ring. Prime Randy Johnson, Griffey, A-Rod, Buhner, Edgar Martinez etc... One of the scariest mlb teams in recent memory rings or not.
Remember when the Orioles were always a good team? If ur over 40 probably not. Mussina was a great pitcher. Somebody spend some money on the Orioles and bring them back to glory
@@troymiller319 no these years the al east was tough and it just seems like the tide changed when they payed albert belle who got bad hip and then they still paying him like bobby bonilla contract the mets are stuck with still....
AROD, Griffey, edgar.........what a killer 3. just shows giving mega contracts on position players will not get you to WS. ohtani and trout is another combo.
Mussina had that nasty knuckle curve, my dad was an Indians fan, during their series that year, he dropped that pitch striking out a few Indians, my dad had a few choice words.....LOL
Two of the Great pitchers of the 90s. What a battle!

Make the Orioles Great Again!
they will be great if we get the old uniforms back
David's Musical Ship no 😂 that’s not how that works
Randy Johnson was great. Mike Mussina was great. The Mariners have never been great.

We had Randy Johnson...
@Harry Engeljeff Nelson also
@@one7deep7savage7 ..and four other question marks at the back end of the rotation, plus a marginal at best bullpen.
Randy pitched a freakin gem of a game, hard L. That home run in the first, one pitch after a non-strike 3 call, was a sign of misfortune for the day.

@@mattray9904 he wasn't wild at all. Even Joe Morgan said in the first inning after giving up 2 that he was pitching well.

I miss the days the Orioles we're competitive

Still paying albert belle and Chris davis which is inhaling a ton of payroll

Poor Jay Buhner grounded out to end both of the Mariners playoff runs in 95 and 97
Yankees should have never traded Buhner!
@@davidpolston2643 didnt know they had him , people forget pinella managed yankees also lol

Myers was nasty
Colorado at the time had lefty specialist Michael Myers who was an expert at striking out Barry Bonds. His entrance music was the Halloween theme.

Orioles haven't been since the 12 year old boy robbed them.
Yeah, it messed with them so bad they went ahead and won the next game, then won the AL East and this division series the next year.
The Orioles had good players?
Ya these days when 30 hrs was nothing lmao
