Well, Piquet and Senna weren't exactly bitter enemies, they just didn't like eachother outside of the track. They did respect eachother when racing though. When Senna died, Piquet left whatever he was doing to go back to his apartment. A journalist asked him what he thought about Senna's tragic death. He said: "It was clearly steering + rear suspension damage. Rear suspension gets shot, the front of the car lifts off the ground and you can't control it anymore. Thus, he ended up crashing in the wall. Senna... he loved to push himself to the limits, and I'm pretty sure it was entirely possible for him to break any records, including Fangio's. All he had to do was stay in the team and do his best."

@Gopnik_putin_ there is a lot of hype built up around Senna. That hype is 'helped' by the fact he died so we haven't seen him age and decline.

I think people get this misconstrued as Piquet backing Senna, its more that at that moment they both had a common enemy. The rule that stripped Senna of his 1989 title was ridiculous irregardless of who you were rooting for, and it was a rule that would F over every driver. Piquet spoke up because he didnt want to have to deal with it himself.

In my opinion they didn't had to DQ Senna for this issue in '89 specialy when you see the reaction of the other drivers about this type of situation in this video one year later.
    BUT!!
If you see the footage of the crash between Senna and Prost at Suzuka backthen in '89, you can clearly see when the marshalls pushed Senna back on track, from there he could make the first turn of the chicane! It's a shame he still choose to go straight and didn't fulfill the race distance by "cutting the chicane" and got DQ'ed for that. The should've known the rules, even how silly some may be! He was aware of "the system" that was not realy supporting him against Prost. Every time i watch that video a can't stop myself screeming: TURN RIGHT, TURN RIGHT!

Senna went thru the escape road, where you have to zig zag your way thru, as there were those plastic blocks on the escape road. That is the track if you miss the chicane, and he followed protocol.
He did the right thing in that situation in itself also he had already lost a lot of time with the crash with Prost.

Senna DSQ at Japan 89 was OK but the thing is they DSQ Senna for the wrong reason. Japanese trackside marshals clearly gave Senna a pushstart all the way Senna's engine stalled. Back in the day the regulation said you can push a car at a dangerous position in terms to put the car outside the track like japanese marshals did with Prost's McLaren. It wasn't the same thing what Senna did asking those marshals to give him a pushstart to rejoin the race. Japanese marshals never pushed Senna's McLaren to the grass outside the track like they did with Prost's McLaren. Everybody knows Senna was like a God in Japan back in those days. Off course japanese marshals were helping Senna and not helping Prost. So Senna was pushstarted. They DSQ Senna for the wrong reason but nevertheless Senna deserved to be DSQ. End of story. Period.
