The first one was in *rough* shape, but literally nothing that some minor repairs and improvements the tenant could make themselves couldn't fix for a very small amount of money if they're handy. I'd take it over the 2nd one solely because someone is clearly cleaning the toilet. Judging by the apparent lack of care from the landlord it's probably just one of the tenants cleaning it but even still it's at least getting done. I wouldn't want to move into the 2nd one and end up being the only person who cleans the toilet for everyone.

First Apartment Paolo: There's space here to take our shoes off Me: No no no no, keep the shoes on. I say this as an Asian. Keep them ON. Also, you should leave.
One thing I find attractive about Japanese housing is how many options there are for single people who want to live alone. In America it's nearly impossible to find a studio apartment, most apartments are 1, 2 or 3 bedroom. So if you're single you have to rent a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment and share it with 1-2 roommates. I'd much rather just be able to rent a 1-room studio all to myself.
The $200 apartment reminded of the room from the grudge, where the woman appears from inside the closet, pretty creepy but an interesting look into some of the more sketchy properties, even if it's technically in tokyo it's very much on the edge, of what would be considered liveable.
Paolo would be the best house seller of Tokyo: "These walls have just a lot of history!!" "The room is not that big so you don't need a long extension cord!!"
Your positivity to all of the apartments shown despite the... flaws... was honestly fantastic. I've only found you somewhat recently, but the good vibes and high amount of attention to detail and information adds up to a wonderful viewing experience. Awesome work!
@Jack Strawb They're not 'delusional'. You can clearly tell they recognise the flaws of the places through their positive sarcasm. Instead of being negative, they present jokes to keep the video in positive spirits.
on the other hand...he is so postive about this...that it becomes ridiculous. I tought he was sarcastic the whole time. But now I think he was positive.lol
to hell with the flaws they can be fixed or at least disguised as something nice - Like as is common in Japan, which is one thing I always liked about their culture - Crafty people really
I actually loved the first traditional apartment. I don't know how it works in Japan, but if you're allowed to make improvements I would make it look nice. And be grateful for the opportunity to live in Japan. I've lived without indoor water and with a outhouse in the past and you figure it out and get used to it. Get a gym card or find a onsen. Wood polish, lime, new tatamis, a couple floor chairs and a table, a fresh futon and a couple of wok burners is a fairly easy start. A few house plants.... It's a pretty sweet start. And $200 per month leaves more money to fully explore the rest of Japan.
ME: Hey this 2nd apartment doesn't seem that bad, it's a massive improvement from the 1st one and only $25 more. Paolo: Here's toilet number 1. ME: Never mind.
I would definitely be in charge of toilet cleaning in example 2. It would be immaculate. I would charge other residents a $1 a day for the privilege of using it 😂😂😂
@@TheCUTTERbyPHOENIX depending on how many residents there are, if there are 12 units that is $12 a day, or 360 every 30 days. hire a guy to clean every month for $200 and take the $160, now get every apartment on the zip code... lets say just 20 that has this situation and boom extra 3k a month for some leg work and contracts and you got a nice passive income.
Honestly? The leap in quality from $200 - > $225 was ridiculous lmao. $25 is the difference between a better location and whether or not you live in the basement from Saw.
The second flat had about the same quality my second flat near London had. I paid £800 for that which is about 1100$. Just to think I could’ve had a relatively nice flat in Tokyo for 4-5 months with the same amount of money ughh...
Very interesting, thanks for posting. As an American that has lived all over the USA in many different types of (poor) dwellings.. I can honestly say the only option for me that was shown in this video is the last one with the loft. The "shared toilets" and no shower dwellings are not an option, so $450+ is CHEAP for such a great space with private toilet/shower shown!
i think it is hard to actually get approved to move to japan unless u are an expats ofcourse. but prices of studio apartments and even a small house outside of town is actually relatively cheap compare to the prices in US's major cities
The third one is the only acceptable one to me. The first one I feel like I'd get stabbed in at night or vanish without a trace. The second one feels like someone's gonna watch me while I sleep in a feverish fit due to the e-coli I got from the toilet.
As a property manager and leasing agent, I would be embarrassed to show those 1st 2 apartments. The last one was beautiful. Like always, great video. Thanks!
Usually you must remove your shoes in Japanese houses to protect the floors from dirt, but in the first apartment, I think you need to keep your shoes on to protect your feet from the floor! 😂
Whenever a realtor says that a place has "character" or "personality", what they really mean is "It's old, half the stuff's broken or about to break and it's in dire need of renovation".
"This apartment has a lot of history" Me: "Really? What history?" "Everyone that moved into this place died after seven days." Me: "I take it for six days then."
Big, big difference to the one costing just under $450. The toilet in one of those $200 rooms was just plain nasty. I've seen gas station washrooms more appealing.
Paolo should really consider a new career as a real estate agent. "It has a light that works properly, so that's pretty nice." "This wall has a lot of history." "The room's not that big, so you don't need an extension cord!" "The ceiling has a lot of characteristics."
That last apartment was nice! I'm a fan of small spaces for living, so that would literally be perfect for me. Odds are I would use the loft as a storage space if I wanted a standard mattress bed. But if I was trying to conserve the downstairs space as kind of a living room, then a japanese futon with a memory foam sleeping pad would do the job too since they don't add a lot of height.
I know everyone loves the third apartment. But the first and second one have a charm to them: yes they're old and falling apart, but immerse yourself in the space and in the time period it was built for a bit. It was a different way of life. Things were simpler, life was slower. Life was always more and more beautifully complex as before mainstream technology, everyone lived within their own world. It's something that although will not best suit modern day, should still be appreciated and cherished as memorabilia for such a special time period.
My brain is instantly so attracted to these spaces. That first one I would absolutely volunteer to renovate it (exchange cost of materials for the rent $$ if possible).
that last apartment was really good tbh the price doesn't seem that steep for what you get, I'd probably put a desk with a computer downstairs maybe some sort of small sofa and table, and upstairs a mattress. Pretty much enough space for one person honestly
@MagicMachineGun I wouldn't because first thing I'll grab something when I wake up is my phone that is charging in one of those outlets plugs, then I'll wake up. Its kinda 50/50 safe sometimes
The 3rd does look really nice honestly. Sleeping up there might feel a bit weird but i guess you get used to it quickly + if you're just on your own the total space seems reasonable. If i were in a situation to find an apartment there i'd love to get this one.
Having slept in a loft bed in college with about that much clearance, yeah, you pick it up almost instantly. My only concern would be if it's easy to navigate onto the stairs back down, especially if you're tired / drunk and the lights are off. (It's too high up to risk a fall.)
"Look at this first apartment. The landlord was kind enough to clean the blood and hide evidence of all previous crimes committed in this lovely unit."
Well he did put a lot of effort in it. Its not east to remove blood stains and restless spirits from the wall. And send out the devil because a guest is coming in to check the place out.
I could totally live in that last apartment. I don't need much. Just a bed, my computer, computer area shower/bathroom. I'm all about that easy simple lifestyle.
I'm pretty sure the first place is deemed uninhabitable. There is really no proper water, unsafe power.... I don't believe any landlord would put this on social media, no one would want to live in this.
If you do not go to Tokyo to work every day, but go to Tokyo for pleasure or shopping, I would recommend neighboring prefectures (Kanagawa and Saitama) where you can take a train to Tokyo. Although it will take more time to travel by train, the cost performance of housing will be greatly improved.
That last apartment for the price it was and knowing its in that Tokyo area, that was pretty nice looking actually! I definitely would prefer the shower and have more living space.
Yeah, it was definitely nicer but it was also located on the outskirts of Tokyo so if you work in central Tokyo there is quite a commute. It's the tradeoff when living in Tokyo.

americans: woah that 1st poop sit is very clean.
The first apartment comes with its very own broom?! Say no more! I'll take it!

People say it’s hard to move there .But this man giving us options .

i think it is hard to actually get approved to move to japan unless u are an expats ofcourse. but prices of studio apartments and even a small house outside of town is actually relatively cheap compare to the prices in US's major cities

That last apartment was nice! I'm a fan of small spaces for living, so that would literally be perfect for me. Odds are I would use the loft as a storage space if I wanted a standard mattress bed.
