    Great sounds from a pre-war Germany that did not last long. Note the influence of tango that overlapped into two-step so easily. Also the ballad tradition so strong in German music. Who can forget "Auf Wiedersehen"? Or "Falling In Love Again"?

Also, not sure you knew this but Fred L. passed away last January. I believe Fred may have sent you some CD's in the past. I only found out in July about his passing since it took his wife awhile to get my contact information. I am planning on doing a tribute post to Fred. About half of what I posted on the channel came from Fred's collection. I have 15 years worth of cd's he sent me and barely posted a fraction on it. Hope all is well with you Janette.

    I'm delighted that, this time, you offer us what probably is your very first all German selection on your channel. And I have to say this set is brilliant! As Rich West indicates (see below), Germany was heavily influenced by the more Central European Tango and Ballad traditions. However, since these wonderful sides prove in an eloquent way, this led to a unique and lovely blend of Anglo-Saxon and Continental styles.

    • @pax41
      @pax41  5 лет назад

      I think your observations are spot on Patrick. I find the third selection most interesting with it's tango/jazz infusion , reminds me of Kurt Weill. The last portion of that selection is what I love the best. The Borschel selection appeals to me by how he presents the vocals. He builds it from subtle to the climax (crescendo).

    Bob, it seems that we all are very pleased with the variety you present in your sets! I was actually kind of surprised (though i shouldn't have been) to see an all-German orch. program. Just last year, I bought a couple of Die Goldene Sieben CD's, which I've found very enjoyable -- so, we think alike! Lovely stuff here, with standouts for me being Regentropfen , Wenn der Mond einen Hofhat, Hallo Babette (nice ensemble trombones!) and Beim Ersten Kuss.
