Yes, the bureau labor of statistics only goes by the standard 40 hours of week. One of my questions is where in this country does 60k pay to support a whole family? Are the trades a viable option for someone who has a family already to consider?
these all sound on the low end because they’re based off of 40 hour work weeks, in pretty much all of these trades ur working at minimum 10-20 hours overtime every week you work.
Don’t forget that you get to go home every night (even after overtime) and that means a lot. Good health insurance on some of these jobs. Let’s be real, good jobs are out there, make yourself valuable to your company and they will take care of you.
those numbers seem really low, but also the sad truth is, that while 70k mightve been decent money in the 90s/00s thats still gonna be tough for anyone thats not a single dude
Journeymen at my union make $53.60 an hour (almost $84 an hour including benefits). Whenever I look up the average wage a trade makes I always get these low end numbers. With a bit of digging you can find out what they ACTUALLY make. It’s a shame because anyone curious about getting into the trades will think it’s not worth it because all you see is “$50k-$60k” (not bad money, but not as high as what we all hear).
I worked in the construction industry as a safety coordinator 10 years ago and our elevator/escalator techs were getting paid $65/hr here in Houston, TX and that was the wage for their new guys. I guarantee they're getting paid a lot more than that now. Oh, they also work Monday through Thursday ten hour shifts so they always had a three day weekend. Not bad at all! I'm currently a police officer making $88k/yr. Our new officers are making $70k/yr without a degree and we should be getting a good raise with our new contract later this year.
Do the hours from one trade transfer to another? Wondering how easy it is to get your Electric & HVAC license. (If you know the answer, would love some key bullet points on the process from start to finish)
I’m 10years into construction/handyman and 4 years into HVAC and I’m pulling in $58k per year. From what I understand though is my company tops out around $40hour which isn’t good enough for me to strive for the top here
In 2025 I can't believe I'm still seeing a lot of these trades jobs starting at $25 an hour and they want tools and experience. Meanwhile Target, Amazon and even McDonalds offers the same pay, better benefits and working conditions. Good luck attracting more people to this industry...

@@badart3204 Idk, a small bedroom appartment that's from the 50s and for complete renovation goes for $130 000+
New cars that are not freakin Dacia go for $20000+ , used ok cars go for $1500+ , got one for $1800 after not even a year about $1000 of extra costs.
Healthcare? Yeah it's "free" (it's paid by our employer as mandatory, mine is about $320 per month) but you still pay for private clinics cause you don't have time to wait for 15months for and MRI or 4 months for X-ray, going on for 11months on the phyiscal therapy and i'll still wait for 3-4 more months.
Everything went up in price A SHIT ton since we introduced EURO , I usually spent about $120-150 per month on food, it's $300 + now , my pay went from $1200 at the old job to $1250 in the past 2 years lmao ...
Yeah it's pretty good here, we dont have people with gun roaming the streets , that's a good thing
Diesel Mechanics makes great money, too.
Automation Electrical technician. Been in the field for a little over five years now. Started as an apprentice at $12.80/hr. I’m now a Lead electrical tech builder at $32.74/hr.
22 hours a week, $400 a week Amazon warehouse worker here 😤👌
Class B tanker here, making 37hr. I work crazy hours by choice, so I pull 97k a year. I'll slow down two years from now once I hit 40 years old.
I thought about getting a class B!! What do you haul dear?
@BrittanySmith-e1t cooking oil
@@Bigmatt7 cool
Why is appliance repair technician never on a list. I pulled $47k last year and I only do it part time. I still work a full-time job during the day.
I stopped at $50k a year, it was probably on there
Heavy equipment mechanic, 62.50 an hour (union)
Made 37/hr non union
Greater Los Angeles area
how much are union fees? ive been under the impression that there is a pay raise, but a lot goes to the union
@IRNoahBody my union dues are $$110 a month. Not much at all
115k auto plant worker. But I do work as much overtime as I can. Considering going to school for industrial maintenance once my wife is done with her nursing school.
It's great but it sucks when your new to a trade no one ever wants to give you and opportunity here in nevada it's sad
Keep trying someone will give you a chance and once you build experience your golden
I think these numbers are EXTREMELY low at least for the St. Louis MO area.
I agree that the iron workers deserve more
$500,000 electrician here. I work 96 hours a week
HVAC Tech here and made over 180,000 last year
how
One of my questions is where in this country does 60k pay to support a whole family? Are the trades a viable option for someone who has a family already to consider?
About to start my 2nd half of my 2nd year in college and have been thinking about making the switch to the trades for sometime now
That can be a great move! Which trade are you thinking about?
@ electrician has stood out to me out of all the trades. Hopefully I can figure it out!
Not a bad choice! Good luck and let me know how your journey goes
Heavy equipment operator apprentice in so cal. First step making 35/hr. , journeyman wage I believe is up to 59/hr
I'm 43. And trying to break into the trades. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Am I too late?
Never too late. Just go into hvac if you don’t want to ever use a shovel.
@@garrettsipe6 unless he becomes an installer, you’re definitely gonna use one lol

Exactly same age and want to dive into a trade. Age shouldn’t stop us. Good luck my friend 🙏
these all sound on the low end because they’re based off of 40 hour work weeks, in pretty much all of these trades ur working at minimum 10-20 hours overtime every week you work.
Yep these are low end, also they are using pricing from 2 years ago...2023...
Just a heads up, the precast concert is 75,000-118,000 and batch plant operator 127,000
These numbers are definitely on the low end, especially for industrial. As a concrete laborer I made over $1500/wk take home
Local union Trucker 110k this year
I worked in the construction industry as a safety coordinator 10 years ago and our elevator/escalator techs were getting paid $65/hr here in Houston, TX and that was the wage for their new guys.
Machinist, pipe fitters, and instrumentation all get paid $51/hr at the refinery here
Do the hours from one trade transfer to another? Wondering how easy it is to get your Electric & HVAC license. (If you know the answer, would love some key bullet points on the process from start to finish)
5 years through a union apprenticeship
I’m 10years into construction/handyman and 4 years into HVAC and I’m pulling in $58k per year. From what I understand though is my company tops out around $40hour which isn’t good enough for me to strive for the top here
105 000 working at a mine first year too
Nice 👍
I knew a fella who’s job it was to operate a boiler room, he needed a lot more then a high school diploma. GRHS.
All wages will depend what state one lives in
Electrician II CDCR $106000 last year
I got 60k gross last year for fixing cars.
Carpenter in Australia, peak times 153k
Constrution inspector in nc base pay of 74k plus ot
Electrical instrumentation controls tech here 87,000 base pay
Elevator mechanic here. Great business.
I’d say this average sounds quite low.
I think its way low too...what area are you in?
@@RogerWakefield
I work generally in northern new jersey.
In 2025 I can't believe I'm still seeing a lot of these trades jobs starting at $25 an hour and they want tools and experience. Meanwhile Target, Amazon and even McDonalds offers the same pay, better benefits and working conditions. Good luck attracting more people to this industry...
Yeah but some I f these unions are very hard to get into
I’m a journeyman plumber regular 40 hours gross 109k my first year out of trade school we get a raise every 6 months doing the same thing
100,000 per year as a dedicated trucker. It's not OTR but it's not local either.
Telecom Drone Pilot. Do between 10k-20k a month
Community College is awesome.
Which one is the best for a felon
They can all be good...it depends on the company..
I made almost 120k as a plumbing technician working for a company. And I’m not even counting side work money….shhh
Staring in may 2025 as a plumber apprentice!
Operator on a pipe crew, and also a first year apprentice. 70k a year
These are national averages, but it is different in every state,as is the cost of living! So 60k is great in NC,Fl but CA would be poverty level!
Yep! Prices are good here in north TX too
I’m in NC in 60 K is not a lot. I can tell you that now. And I’m HVAC technician.
Union terrazzo flooring 100k+
What about ground moving?
Electrical Aprentice here. On track to almost 40k a yea
Industrial refrigeration tech?
$90k as a wastewater plant operator without any OT, have a pension and decent benefits as well
Truss designer making 70k a year. I've seen as high as $100,000 for large commercial/multifamily.
