I am am ‘older gal’ - 80 next year. We get used to being called all kinds of slightly silly and sweet names. I don’t mind. I did a few of these for the first time at 11pm! Will do them again properly in the morning. Very easy for me with chronic back pain, and other difficulties. Thank you.
Thank you very much! I am 68 and need working like this I hace high blood pressure and hypothyrodidm. I feel bad sometimes, because no matter how much exercises I do, and most of the time I eat just what I can, no what I want! So, tomorrow I will start doing this after my daily walking! Thank you very much. Grettings from Paraguay.
I know this was posted awhile ago but, thank you, this is very helpful. Not just for “older women” but anyone of any age that requires modifications (scoliosis, back injuries, etc.) I do have to admit that the “they, their” etc phrasing as if “older” (Not sure if the age cut off or parameter was noted here) sounded as if it was an “us vs. them” distinction. Unless you are unfortunate enough to die early, All women will be Older Women (as opposed to other groups such as pregnant, postnatal, disabled etc. which not everyone will necessarily be a part of). Other than that little sensitivity of mine, this is great! Although “older” now (56) I’ve lived my entire life with back issues such as scoliosis, transitional vertebrae, Hyper-mobile vertebrae) I’ve still managed to dance - ballet, lyrical, African- hike, bike, skate etc. Pilates and yoga are both great for managing cumulative damage from over a lifetime of being very active and making your body strong enough to remain active.
My chiropractor is suggesting Pilates. I am older and have a weak lower back/pelvic area. Took a serious fall from a horse many years ago. Now my lower back has healed, but I need to take responsibility, drop some weight and find a practical routine that will strengthen and improve my flexibility. I also like the Yoga style breathing and stress reducing routines. Thank you for your channel. I will follow with interest. My goal in the next six months is to lose weight and be significantly in better overall condition for my 70th birthday. My blank journal is open and I am starting in ernest on August 1st, with my chiropractor's approval. I recognize Hatha Yoga cat, which I love!
Thank you for this video. I teach a chair yoga weekly to a wide variety of ages. Some are in their 80s, mostly women but some men as well. This gave me some great new ideas and reinforced that I'm already giving them what they need too. Again, thanks! Leanne
I used to go to a fantastic Pilates Teacher but a bit far from home so had to stop. This young woman works similar to the one I had. Great to watch and now motivated me to do the moves again. Our group also was from 18 to 80 and was great for someone to think differently for slightly mature ladies. Thanks for this video and I have liked and subscribed.
Thank you for this video. I teach pilates to a few older women with severe limitations, and was wondering what I could do with them that wouldn't be too much for them. This video is perfect.
I have been teaching along these lines for 18 years. While these exercises have been introduced in the context of 50+ women, they would benefit any population. In fact, many (male and female) youngsters (e.g. 20 year olds) these days have trouble with posture and alignment in general and specifically in some of these movements (e.g. hip hinge, shoulder retraction). So... don't think that this is wimpy exercise, it actually requires (and builds) a lot of body awareness, which is essential for everyone, at any age, and especially athletes.
GREAT VIDEO! The most helpful so far! Thank you so much! I love your suggestions, the way you let me think of what i could make my client think of, what the focus is. Wonderful! I have been looking for videos for pilates for older people since a long time, while feeling insecure teaching my clients. now i have a guideline and ill apply it to more exercises! great teaching!
I love it when there is honest down to real sharing going on. Sharing of high quality teaching. That makes your video unique!!! And it gives a sense of connection in this world where one is teaching alone that sometimes is such a lonely job, even though you have hundreds of clients every week.... @@PilatesAnytime
Very nice, I teach a class that is a blend of yoga and Pilates in an active over 55 community. I've bruised my coccyx and was looking for some new moves that did not require any lying on the back work. I like the lying on the side options which I have not used in a while. Your video reminded me of some exercises that I did a long time ago and had forgotten about. I've subscribed to your channel and plan to be an every day user. Thanks!
Thank you for the therapeutics. Please trust and sharing with many others what you are doing when they make positive comments or ask why you look so good. This releases what is unknown. Your friends and even your mother would enjoy hearing what you are doing as well.
Do you specifically teach this type of class on "Pilates Anytime"? A gentle, mindful pilates geared, not only to "older gals"(you KNOW you will never live that phrasing down :) but people suffering from knee/hip injuries and trying to regain mobility? Even though you created this for instructors looking for alternative movements, I really felt a great stretch and lengthening that I do not get with yoga. Thanks again for posting!
Thank you - good information for those of us working with an active older population. I teach at the YMCA and have many people trying to stay strong and active as they age - I'll definitely make use of this information!!
My Chiropractic dr. told me about all of this. I have a bad lower back and still wanna stay tone. I was hit by a truck in a parking lot , physically hit me in my lower left pelvic hip area. Now I have a permanent disability. Happy 50th birthday to me December 31 , 2019😜🎁
I am not ederly. I am 38 but I am incredibly lazy and sedentary. I’m surprised I am not morbid obese 😂😂😂, but exercising for me is a pain in the ass, but this work wonders to begin with, specially because I developed back problems after I gave birth. After I did this, I felt fantastic. This work for all ages and it can perfectly work as pilates for begginers.
hi. i m 50+ with some back problems so cant do much bending . also had been through hysterectomy. obviously i m obese. what kind of exercise is good for me. actually I liked ur way of teaching
i wish~! the older gals I work with cannot get up and down from the floor!!! its been quite a challenge to come up with reformer workouts that do not aggregate their knees, necks, low backs ...,many cannot sit crossed legged, many cannot lift their head for hundreds and such, many cannot do bridges due to bulging discs, many cannot lie prone due to vertigo....challenging to find something new that everyone can do for each class any books, videos or suggestions from anyone I would appreciate very very much. PS. I am also a physical therapist, which is why many of our clients have these issues...they come to our studio when they are finished with PT
+gavink80 During some "exercise for older people" course, I was told to avoid neck flexion in older people anyway, such as those seen in the Pilates rollup and Level 2 of the Hundred. So my suggestion is keep their head on the mat. They can still get a workout.

Thank you for thinking about "us" older persons. I had spine surgery almost a year ago, and this is what I was looking for.
Very pleasant video. Nice calming voice, soft spoken, clear speaking, and not a speed talker. Thank you
Thank you , you have explained these excercises well, I hope to do them , started the easy ones today.
Thank you for this video for seniors.
Just sent this to my mama in Puerto Rico she's 67 in bad shape , me as well gonna try it soon

This is great. Thank you. I'm not a Pilates instructor but enjoyed doing these. Would be good to have a full 30 or 60 minute workout.

Pilates is a great way to relieve stress and feel vibrant. Thank you!
Are pilates exercises available by CD? COVID19 required "exercise at home"!
Love this!
Some great ideas here for me. I had shoulder replacement 4 years ago and the Physio wants me to move more through cervical spine and back.

Great tips for the older thank you for sharing,
please i want a pilates program for stress incontinence after menopause
This is very helpful... Thank you!
I love this teacher. Does she have any other RUclips’s please
What do you do for older ladies with pelvic floor issues. So many excercises push down on the pelvic floor and defeat the work.
Great. i love it.
Thank you sooo much. I have arthritis and feel so stiff at times...these exercises look perfect for me. Cant wait to do them . 🙆🙅💗
Did it help?
@@86cdp1997map For me it does, it helps keep me limber and I get energy from exercising 🌻
That's great Veronica. I'm going to do these exercises with my mother. Her back has been hurting and she's 71 years old.

My artificial knees exclude your kneeling exercises ... everything else is very good, thank you from Hawaii Island.
Thank you for your video ❤️,,😘😘😘👍👍
Thank you, that was great, I teach mainly older adults and I loved all your information 👍😊
Monika Harrison good for you calling us older adults and not the other derogatory names used. 👍
Excellent!!
Aloha! From Hawaii 🌈🌺🌸🌼
Can we get straight into following your instructions or is there a 'warm up' we should do before starting please?
Kim thom; Try the Miranda Esmonde White Stretching program. Here on RUclips. I love her and at 71 she's my inspiration.
Loved your class!
What is the result of this workout?

You want to start on the Cadillac, maybe, instead
You can also start doing the hundred with head flat and knees in tabletop, then progress to head flat and legs straight

I wish people would come up with something for bulging discs
Liking the exercises, not loving the "Older gals" speak! Maybe come up with another way to address an older population.
Yes, 'they' is patronising.
Agree! It grates on my nerves every time she says “older gals”! Good exercises and directions!

Which range of ages do you mean by older women?
All fours is bad position for older women due to arthrosis in the knees. Most elderly suffer knees limitation!
There are plenty of older women, my mother included who have no or little issue with their knees, especially if you have been active with yoga, fitness etc. It all comes down to each individual, Ms. Heloisa.
+heloisa688 I teach women of all ages and a few young ones have more issues with the all fours position than most of the 70+ ladies!
