    I don't know if Smithing will ever be "balanced" in Bannerlord however I love how fast you can level it cause its the best part they need to add armorer into it'

    • @Strat-Guides

      It will be hard for them to balance it, there are sooo many weapon parts! I agree, I smith with 90% of my characters.
      I would love to smith armor and ranged weapons too! I need those legendary stat rolls on my bow :D

    • @Sanzeh
      @Sanzeh 3 года назад +17

      I think they should price weapons based on the material used to craft it and a "quality" multiplier based on difficulty (compared to your level) and rng. This would make weapons other than 2h sword and pole arm useful for profit and nerf the profit from smithing.

    • @Strat-Guides

      @@Sanzeh That's a really solid plan and would fix a lot of the issues that are causing smithing to be imbalanced right now. I'm really curious why they didn't do this to begin with lol it would have probably made their life much easier - make an equation and let it do it's thing. As of right now, it seems tied to weapon stats BUT there are several parts that don't follow the math so I know for sure they manually edited some things.

Not a critique at all, just wondered why, I'm sure threes a reason. I find the smithing in Bannerlord very satisfying, from a kid who use to doodle swords in notebooks in school, i find i just enjoy putting good looking swords together as much as building for stats. That's a great point and the only answer I could come up with is - I'm an idiot haha : ) Flesson19 did his 25 day challenge and picked up a companion early on and it made a HUGE difference, so you're 100% right. Another great informational video!
    I also watch other Bannerlord playthroughs like ReformistTM. I think you could learn a thing or two of how he does playthroughs to make more enjoyable to watch. In my opinion he does well to inform a newer viewer to what the story is up to, as in short sum up of last some episodes.
    Secondly he does very well of following a certain "story line" and edits (or cheats in) boring bits such as recruitment of troops, but doesnt add it in the video. Although one could argue that seeing how you recruit the bandit factions (sea raiders, forest/mountain/regular bandits) is added value aswell, but is repetetive. He also uses mods to make it easier for him to follow his charachters narative.
    But where you outshine him is pure base knowledge. He doesnt understand all the skills etc as well as you do and I think you could try to dive bit more into that strength. That's your added value for me with the hardcore Robyn of the Hood series you're running currently. Also just playing the game vanilla (no mods) is useful to understand basic game mechanics more in depth for me(Compared to reformist modded playthroughs). This last also cause you tend to explain it, although I think you could share even more knowledge.
    FYI I'm not a youtuber so I'm just stating what I think, but dont have experience as content creator to back my thoughts.
    An idea for a video/video series which I would like to see is "How to start as and which skills to choose and why". I think it will explain a narative to follow for a playthrough combined with faction lore. It will show the tipping point for skill investment from combat to social skills (In my opinion you want to start off with atleast some investment in combat and switch to social skills later). Trade offs and your thought process of why to switch or put points into a certain skill without needing to dig it up between alot of minutes of a whole playthrough.
    "Excuse my french"

      Thank you for watching!
      I'm 100% with you on that point - my Let' Play sucks haha. I'm not sure I've seen any of his videos, but I have seen PartyElite and a couple others that do the narrated play throughs. That's more or less what I was going for, but got lost between learning the software, figuring out how to talk while playing, etc. and it turned into a train wreck lol. I have a lot more respect for people that do that live now, it's truly a skill that needs to be learned over time. Looking back at it now, I would definitely edit a lot more things out. I wanted to avoid using the cheat console to keep the gameplay legit, but I think there is a balance that must be maintained to keep the playthrough entertaining - I'm on board with you there!
      I do love numbers, data and problem solving... My plan is to focus heavily on the guides and sprinkle in Let's Plays here and there until I can get better at them.
      Well you and I are in the same boat lol I'm not a content creator either as I just started last month so I have no clue what's what! Feedback like this is highly valued - In the business world this type of feedback would cost me thousands of dollars (please don't send me an invoice)!
      That's a great idea for more guided Let's Plays - One for each faction following the strength of that faction and how to build your character to embrace that. I would probably keep them short and highly edited just to point out the main important ideas (and skip the repetitive farming, quests, etc.)
      I also have a "hero builder" data base that I use to build my characters and companions which I plan on making a video for. One example of how it's useful: Let's say I want to max my party size. I look for all perks tagged as "increase party size" and make sure I have focus points and attribute points enough to get those. Throw in a maxed out steward companion and you've got a monster party. Another example is beefy troops - search for "increase troop hit point" perks and make sure I can get all of them. I ran this earlier and if I remember correctly, you can get them up to nearly double the standard HP! It's also good for governor perks to boost militia, loyalty, security, etc. There are so many combinations, it's impossible to remember any of it without a database. Anyhow I'm starting to ramble now lol I'm passionate about this stuff (maybe even more than actually playing...).

    Thank you. Your guide helped me a lot. Once you unlock the Voulge part then it's easy money from there. I make like 20k on each custom Voulge. Now I focus purely on 2 Handed highest tier blade and make an average of 40k per weapon. Its easy money. Much easier than farming armies or bandits. Much easier than trading or workshops. I save up like 3M and then begin my mercenary career. I don't even bother collecting loot unless it's food or rare items now. I invest all the money on upgrading my companions with the best armour and getting the best tier troops. Smithing is by far the easiest skill to max out. All you need is hardwood, charcoal, Pugios and stamina. Make sure you focus your perks on refining the metals. This guide has helped me experience a much easier and less grinding game. After I heard about this challenge I thought I'd try playing one of my own, but I started in Empire territory, so it took several days to reach Battania and a good source of wood, and then while I was waiting around for endurance to regen, the city got sieged! I had to run all the way to the next city on 1.6 overland speed because I hadn't had the chance to sell off my extra charcoal before moving, and that meant I got ambushed by about 18 mountain bandits along the way. Lost some time and a lot of loot, but fortunately I had enough cash and charcoal left over to start up again. Over all, at around noon on Fall 5, I had a nest egg of 32k, 105 skill, and the ability to turn 1000g of tribal throwing knives into a greatsword worth 12k.
    Oh and I forgot to mention there were no bonus focus points to start with, so I had to solo a bunch of looters to gain levels via weapon skills just to get my focus points. Still, turned out okay. Smelting the weapons you craft definitely helps unlock those high tier parts faster.

I still had 100k by Fall 10 and almost a million by Winter 5, around which time I reached 300 skill with no sign of t5 blades for either 2h swords or axes. Then I decided to reboot the campaign for one where I wasn't merely concerned with smithing.
      Currently in the early stages of a Battanian barbarian smith build. My plan is to run in with light armor, thrown weapons, a big shield for those pesky archers, and a two handed axe for the melee. Got lucky and won my first tournament in the town where I happened to be doing my first phase smithing, so I've got cash for materials.

      @Nurk0m0rath 3 года назад

      @@Strat-Guides I hope they do. I was smithing 2h swords worth 50k+ and like I said, I didn't even have any t5 blades. Axes and polearms I couldn't break into the 20k zone, but I was getting values into the teens for nothing more than a couple of steel and one wood. My hope is that this time when they rebalance the system they do a complete overhaul instead of just adjusting the overall values down, because the price and exp bonus from 2h swords is just insane, and despite their utility as high-tier weapons, I have never seen maces or spears (aside from chopping poles) come close to 10k. It would be really nice to see xp rates balanced better between the weapon classes so smithing feels less gimmicky.
      But, then, I also want to see ranged weapons, shields, and armor added to smithing, and at this stage of development that is highly unlikely. I can only hope they at least leave open the possibility for mods to add those in later.
      Honestly, if they included price mods for all three damage types and weighted blunt and piercing slightly higher than slashing, that would already be a tremendous help. I think the best balance here would be to rate damage multiplied by weapon speed for any given attack, with a small bonus from reach.
      Oh and one last thing. From some testing I've done, it looks as though they misplaced a minus setting up reach requirements for requests. Like weight, reach seems to cause failure from going over the requirement, but not for going under or matching. But I haven't done as careful of tests as you do, so I could be wrong.

    • @Nurk0m0rath
      @Nurk0m0rath 3 года назад

      @@Strat-Guides Oh and that barbarian smith build just reached Fall 5. I kept my starting armor, financed my early endeavors with full bets on a tournament, acquired two companions including a smith with the first two perks, chased down numerous bandit parties for combat practice, and ran two more tournaments on which I didn't need to bet. I even visited 3 Vlandian cities because I'd never been into their territory before.
      Right as the cock crew on Fall 5, I stopped resting, smelted some daggers, and sold two 43k value swords for 60k gold plus some new party equipment, ending up at 210k current gold and 124 smithing skill in the morning of day 25. After spending the day traveling, I just managed to reach the next city before midnight, forged a new sword, and sold that, for a total of 250k and 126 smithing skill at the end of day 25. • @Strat-Guides
      @Strat-Guides  3 года назад +2

      The beauty of smithing is you can start it at any point in the game and it won't really make any difference to your progress! You can level it up just as fast in the late game. The only thing to be aware of is your main character levels will slow down significantly in the later game, so if you need to level the main character to get the focus points for smithing, that will slow you down some. But still, it can be done! I usually focus hard on smithing early just more from a min/max point of view, but if i'm playing more of a relaxed or RP play through then I'll ignore it until the mid game or even entirely and just let companions handle it. If you're focusing heavy on endurance, then getting it leveled up quickly along with athletics is nice for the free attribute points!

      @@originalcaly Yeah I agree with you 100%, once you get a taste for not having to worry about money, it's hard to go back from it lol and dealing with balancing a budget is a fun aspect of the game (for me at least) so it does take that away. So they didn't add armor crafting yet, but you can make far superior weapons to what you can buy on the market. It's a huge difference! So I start with riding and bow first since that's how I like to do my early game. I just solo kill bandit groups to earn some cash, levels and renown. I find recruiting an early party is slow and inefficient (similar argument as the smithing early though, it can take some of the fun out). I will generally have riding and bow maxed out within a couple battles and then I pump the rest into smithing so that when I'm clan tier 1 or 2, I'm already set for the smithing start. It's a bit min/max but that's mostly because I have 2500 hours into the game lol I don't recommend playing like that in the beginning because as you said it will ruin some of the fun :D

    Should buy some cheap sheeps/hogs - kill - sell meat for profit. Then hire 2 random companions for smithing, go to Seonon where are 2 wood and 1 iron village and you should be able to do it in 14 days or sooner :)

    • @Strat-Guides

      There are mods that can do this or you can use the console command to speed time up. If you're using the console commands, I think speed 4 is the default sped up time.

    This is like when your mate is showing you something on a video game and doesn’t actually tell you anything just does it and you’re there trying to work out the million step process by yourself.
    I get that you’ve probably done it a ton of times but it really felt like you were just doing and explaining what you’re doing not explaining what and why. Would have preferred less gameplay and a more in depth step by step guide style of tutorial. I also get that it’s kind of a challenge video but let’s be real…it’s not is it 😂

    • @Strat-Guides
      @Strat-Guides  2 года назад

      Yeah I think you're right. I had recently done the smithing skill guide that went over everything in detail and this was supposed to be the implementation of that, but as you states it's a lot of detail that isn't easy to follow unless you've done it several times already. I'll work on it for the next time! Thank you for the input

      So this video was recorded in patch 1.6.4 or 1.6.5 when smithing was a bit stronger. I know in 1.7.0 it's harder to make money. There are a few perks that can help you:
      - 175 smithing perk artisan smith
      - 25 trade appaiser
      - 225 Roguery Arms dealer
      These will help reduce some of the trade penalty for weapons and help you earn some money.
