    Dragonbreaks: • The MOST Confusing Con...
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
    The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

    for a Prince she is amazingly human (her emotions at least). It seems like she is held up on high only to resent the role she plays. When she chooses she "acts out" in a way choosing to seek out power for herself. The contradictory nature of her actions seem very much like the struggle of good and evil inside us all.

    • @joaovictornave
      @joaovictornave Год назад +7

      I mean, most princes have terrifyingly human emotions, from egotistical pride to vanity, to hatred and insecurity, debauchery and even madness. Aadreas are spirits that at least model what we think of god and gods and organized religion in the west. Daedra are more like how the indian gods are portrayed in works like the Mahabharata, like what would happen if human-like spirits had god-like powers.

    • @MultiKommandant
      @MultiKommandant 3 месяца назад +1

      From what we do know about her character and behaviour she does seem to have at least some passing affection for mortals *but* only so far as they are actively venerating her in return. In a weird way she reminds me of Morgoth from LotR, participating in a noble cause (for a bit anyway) but ultimately thinks it should all be about them. With Morgoth this was his adding discord to Iluvatar's harmonious creation, with Meridia however it is a bit weirder.
      She seems very proactive for a daughter of Magnus, lending her boons out to the mortals she takes a shine to only to send them off to a new mortal later, probably when the prayers grow quiet. It could be she was rather naive in siding with the Ayleids, seeing only the wondrous creations and not the lifeless hands that actually laboured on them, or it might be she cares only for those who will actively flatter her ego, which the Nedes likely had little intention of doing considering the atrocities the Ayleids inflicted on them. Very interesting to have a fickle and melodramatic Goddess of Light instead of the usual militantly benevolent type.

    I don't necessarily think Meridia a hypocrite, but I do agree with her vanity. I would imagine her siding with the Ayleids because they worshipped her, and recognised her divine power, as opposed to the Nedes, who where rather quick to invent their own religion after overthrowing the Ayleids. That being said, we know far too little about her. She was cast from Aetherius for "consorting with Daedra," whatever that means, and she hates the undead.
    Xarxes also consorted with Mora, but gets to be deified regardless, but an actual Et'Ada gets kicked out? Then again, Xarxes was an early mortal, so maybe he just didn't know better, whereas a Magna Ge should.

    • @Taevarth
      @Taevarth 4 года назад +23

      It could be a possibility that Meridia consorted with Azura, the lady of DAWN and Dusk. As I dont see her consorting with any other Daedric Prince, since Azura isnt entirely evil, though not entirely good either.

    Of course Meridia loving life, and her support of the Ayleids can be reconciled:
    The Ayleids were strong, and life is survival of the fittest. And until their defeat, the Ayleids were the fittest.

      The Daedra are Gods that are interacting with Mundus despite not helping in it's creation

Also the Aedra lost most of their power when they were doing all that creation nonsense, so if Meridia were to be a true Aedra she wouldn't the powerful looming prince of life and light we know her as. @@fairy8303 Yes basically. Meridia was kicked out of the Aedric realms for unknown reasons, but carved out her own realm anyway rather than try to get back in. Because she didnt expend herself during creation she still has the full extent of her power, making her basically identical to the Daedra. Like I said there isnt truly much difference between Aedra and Daedra other than motivations--those who wanted to help make the world and those who didnt. Its a rather loose and vague classification, which I think is a nice world building moment. It enhances the mystery of their existence

    You know, Pelinal wasn't guiltless of barbarous butchery himself. And why would Meridia not back the Ayleids, considering she was one of their patron deities, if not the chief of their pantheon? And that's not to mention that Molag Bal's Ayleid worshippers were constantly terrorizing Meridia's devotees, until Meridia finally put an end to it herself by destroying the central city of Molag Bal worship.
    And her being pissed and getting vengeance on yhe Divines by sending Umaril back into world... well... wouldn't you do the same? The Divines brought Pelinal practically out of nowhere, sent him into Ayleid territory to butcher any and all Ayleids he came across, whether or not they were good or peaceful, and slaughtered their king, Meridia's champion. So why would she not be pissed and try to take vengeance upon the Divines for their actions? After all, they hadn't themselves shown any interest in humanity's plight up until then, whereas Meridia was also worshipped by man outside Cyrodiil, like her temple in Skyrim.

    • @HickoryDickory86
      @HickoryDickory86 5 лет назад +58

      @@Kainlarsen My point was to draw attention to the fact that Meridia isn't the only Elder Scrolls deity who can be blamed for the kinds of things she is. Even within the Anuad it's stated that, because they're the result of the mingled blood of both Anu and Padomay, the Aedra (the Divines) are capable of great good as well as great evil, respectively. And the Divines are proven to be just as petty as the Daedra from time to time, and their worshippers guilty of equal atrocities.
      Interestingly, however, Magnus and the Magna-Ge are said in the Anuad to be purely Anuic beings. So one wonders, then, if Meridia isn't likewise actually _more_ good and beneficent than the Divines themselves. Of course, that would depend on one's own interpretation of her actions. And we the players are not entirely without bias, as we're constantly forced by the games to side with the Divines and interpret things exclusively through the lense of the their devotees (e.g., the _Knights of the Nine_ DLC).

Its almost like the ayleids deserved to get destroyed as well as meridia's "Champion" killed. Twice. Meridia doesnt have a right to act on who rules. The divines do, they made mundus. Also molag is apart of their revered pantheon. Speaks volumes.

      @@ktc1875 Auriel, Trinimac, Ebonarm, Shor, Kyne, etc. have all done much the same. None are guiltless. And Meridia had a part in creating Mundus as a Magna-Ge. True, she and her father siblings left before seeing it through, but they took part. So she actually does have a right to lay some claim to Mundus.
      And as I mentioned above, just because she and Molag Bal both were worshipped by the Ayleids doesn't mean they have anything to do with one another. She and Molag Bal are vehement enemies, and as far as we know no Ayleid worshipped both. It does appear to have been an either/or situation. Perhaps most of the atrocities perpetrated by the Ayleids can be attributed to those who were Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon worshippers. That's just a guess, but it would make sense.

    I suspect that Meridia's assistance of the Aylieds was due to Pelinal Whitestrake fighting on the side of the rebellion - he was well known to be extremely unnatural and largely unstoppable, so there's a good chance she felt the same way about him as she does about undead. There's no evidence that she was fond of the Aylieds at all, but she did assist them once Pelinal took the field against them. Makes me wonder what he truly was.

    Also one thing, not being Captain "save a daedra": It is possible that Meridia was Cheated out of her Deal with Ayleids, and like Clavicus with Umbra, The Ayleids stole half of her powers to empower Umaril and Take control of her Aurorans, Since the Ayleids itself were on a the rapist necromantic depraved murderboner sphere of Molag Bal for a longer time.
    Also its well known that She hates Molag Bal with her guts, and why He is Obsessed in her.
    Plus the fact of why she gave you Dawnbreaker in SKyrim, said skyrim was also facing A vampire crisis, Said vampires were also created by Molag Bal. And OFC The World Eater itself since he is the rogue aspect of Akatosh.
    if i were to guess it, the divines punished her for helping the Ayleids and having her powers stolen by them and bal, But they made a deal that she would help Men and Mundus, to fulfil her deal with Lorkhan, since she was involved with the creation of mundus, and Men was his children. So she went to help mortals in Dealing with Bal's machinations and even stop the other Daedra from taking tamriel as penance for her sins, but as the time went on she became more and more weaker, to the point that even Dawnbreaker became lost and powerless, since Umaril was still in her realm with his followers and stealing more of her powers. Until a Shezzarath Sheostrake aka The CoC, showed up and stopped Umaril once and for all, restoring her powers and the control over her realm, But she lost the location of the Dawnbreaker, and She can't materialize herself fully in mundus, which brings to the Beacon, and the Events of Skyrim.

      She's just an Aedra who chose not to give up her power in the creation of Mundus because her way of doings things requires a different approach, which is just for her to use powers directly. I think where Arkay is not enough for some things she steps in or Stendarr's followers do. In choosing not to sacrifice her power she is on the 'level' of the Daedra but apart from that she is nothing like one, therefore if you follow her its no different from following any of the Aedra. She steps in when something happens like when not even the Dawnguard or Vigilantes of Stendarr are enough.

I think Meridia chose her side in an effort to prevent that slaughter. To protect life, regardless of how bad that life was. To prevent "unnecessary" slaughter, regardless of how badly the oppressed wanted their freedom. While I am not agreeing with this stance, that is how I have always interpreted it.

While I do not agree with all these daedra represent, the tasks they request are well within my scope and grasp and do not offend my good nature. I tell them what they wish to hear but go on my merry way holding their reward in hand. Should we cross paths and I find them plotting evil they will feel the sharp edges of my arrowheads as they fall in defeat.

    Thank you. I watch your videos for two reasons. I deepen my understanting of TES lore and I relax and unwind while hearing the calm music, your voice and see the visuals. Thank you for doing an amazing job at keeping me sane.

    _The Lords of the Chaos Realms chided Merid-Nunda for her trespass and bade her return to Aurbis, claiming all existing spheres as their own. But Merid-Nunda formed of her substance a great drag-lens and the light of Magnus was bent thereby. The rays carved and focused a new sphere from the Chaos, which Merid-Nunda, laughing and sparkling, did claim for her own._

    So since Meridia contributed power to the formation of Mundus, is she able to manifest on it’s surface more easily in the same way the nine divines can? Or do the aedra that retreated with Magnus not have that ability because they didn’t fully bind themselves to Mundus?

    I wonder if Bethesda would ever release a game or story during the time of the Ayelids so we could learn the truth. I believe it's possible that some Ayelids served Molag Bal and others served Meridia, that some Ayelids treated the Nedes horribly and others kindly, and that when Pelinal Whitestrake started wiping out innocents, THAT is when the Ayelids begged for Meridia's help and she helped Umaril in order to stop Pelinal and balance the war out. Also, which Daedra did Meridia consort with? What if she dealt with the more ... balanced Daedra like Hircine, Azura, Vile, Peryite and Vaermina?

    She's like a New Age version of Aedra.

    This could really use an update as we have more information on why Meridia sided with the aeylids. Also the Aeylids were pretty divided as a people. They weren't a single group but a collection of city states that varied from each other wildly. Each worshipped a different daedric prince and they often warred against each other because of this.

    In fairness to her support for the Ayleids, she didn’t really intervene until they were basically facing genocide themselves. And even then, only after they brokered a deal with her.

    I dunno. I think there is more to this than what we hear and see. Know that while light is revealing it is also blinding.

    Meridia is such an enigmatic Daedra. I hadn't met a neutral Daedra until her, even her quest and reward Dawnbreaker are less tools of evil more tools of cleansing.

    everybody here is having PTSD from the start of the quest, but not the buggy script which may or may not kill you when she "puts you back down"
    anyway, i love the quest, it's what i call the "get rich quick" temple, because EVERY burnt corpse has between 50 and 150 gold on it, more for imperials.
    And i wan't nothing more, than to press my face
    between meridias lovely pair in loving embrace
