- Under the bridges. In doorways. On street corners. You don't have to look too hard to see that homelessness is a big problem in Nigeria's biggest city, Lagos.
Amnesty International suggests that more than 30,000 have been forcibly evicted from settlements, and a further 300,000 are under threat.
Many flee to Lagos after being displaced by Boko Haram in the north-east of the country.
We spent a day with Godwin who came to Lagos to look for a better life, but found himself sleeping under a flyover in the city.

BBC AFRICA also covers very positive things. you cannot only show one side of societies. the mistake here is they did not set up a way for viewers to donate if they choose. i feel very bad for the old man, if there were cameras and a way to hold the driver accountable like in the US laws against hit & runs, he would have disability income, some basic healthcare for the initial injuries received, and he'd qualify for senior/disabled housing, foodstamps etc. There would be a lawsuit for the man who hit him and was operating the transportation service and he'd be jailed. Things are unfair

It's so frustratingly annoying that the BBC go through all the trouble of highlighting a precious life among many that needs help. Yet, they provide no means for people to make a connection, meet the need and help change a destiny.

Refreshing to see an honest Nigerian, we are used to seeing the scammers and drug dealers that are ruining the lives of thousands of people in South Africa.
Housing in the country has become so expensive even for those earning monthly wages, 50K can't do anything these days. We urgently need creative and AFFORDABLE housing solutions for these people and they should be given priority. A bridge is no place for a person to sleep. With more than half of the country's population under 30 years of age the lack of job opportunities for self-sustenance is just so frustrating.

Homelessness is a problem all over the world, not just in Nigeria. I live in NewYork and homeless people everywhere. And America is a rich country.
Berndy joseph difference is that in new York, a below average job can get you a decent living situation whereas in Lagos, below average income can’t get you decent bunking. The rents are accumulated and paid yearly and there’s tons of extra fees attached to the rent. Before you can get a place you should have worked a while year and saved up for it. That’s just not right, down here comfort or simple decency is a luxury.

The sad part is there are so many more like him. Fixing this means fixing our government and the way it operates. We need to crack down on corrupt officials and entities. We need to build infrastructure, we need to create jobs, we need to create social programs, we need to be wary of Chinese influence and unbalanced business deals and instead form strategic partnerships, we need to build Nigeria up as a great business destination for fin-tech/tech/medical-tech/tourism, and we need to radically improve the education system. Nigeria has the potential to be a major player, we just need to stop reverting to corrupt, familiar ways and focus on true progress.

This story is not just about one man, it's a homeless problem and a lack of job opportunity and resource, so we cannot just help one person and leave others behind.
This is sad the government needs to create opportunities to the youth like this young man, Nigerian government must act but they seem to not give a damn.
