Urinary Incontinence After Prostate Cancer Surgery

Prostate surgery carries a higher risk of incontinence for men over 70, but younger men aren't immune from incontinence either. Due to more developed pelvic floor muscles in older men, surgery is typically less damaging in younger patients. Regardless of age, I advise all of my patients to meet with a physical therapist after the procedure. By continually practicing what we call Keegel exercises, most men significantly speed up the return of continence.
Erectile dysfunction is another side effect of prostate surgery that concerns most patients. Erection nerves run alongside the prostate and research has shown that peeling these nerves off can result in temporary impotence. However, as long as the neurovascular bundles are preserved then the patient should experience returned potency. Men should be mindful of their erection strength prior to surgery to accurately judge the effects of prostate removal. The surgery will likely result in damage, but the effects aren't irreversible.

At NO time was I told by my GP, hospital doctors, nurses, or the surgeon, that I would (or may) suffer urinary incontinence AFTER prostate surgery three months ago. It came as a HUGE surprise, very UNwelcome. Now I am left to find a way of handling this gross inconvenience. Am I upset and angry?? YES !!!

I was told inconstancy would last about 12 months. I’m going on three years. I must use a pull-up smh

it do not matter how old you are you will have incontinence iam 54 years old and I had my prostate removed and have incontinence si that's a lie
