If your sanding big projects, (tables, wood pieces etc etc) definitely need a respirator. I know someone who was sanding large amounts of 2 part allumilite using just a cloth medical mask and he got super sick. Took him months to recover. I know when I sand, especially with an angle grinder I am absolutely covered in epoxy dust. Goggles or safety glasses are definitely a plus too!!
Thank you so much Eric for sharing you knowledge with the community, it means a lot.
This is very helpful! I just started doing resin but been seeing how dangerous it is makes me discouraged
As long as you think safety first you will be ok (unless you have any allergic reactions) Start small, well ventilates, protective gear and try different brands until you find a safe one for you.
Me too, I've seen people make some really beautiful pieces with resin so started looking into it but didn't realise you needed a mask and that it is dangerous, plus I have mild asthma so as much as I really want to try it I'm also talking myself out of it now 🙈
"Safety is the New Fasion accessory for 2020" Are you a Seer? lol
I sure have a 6th sense for trends lol
Awesome info....my belief is no resin is safe, especially when adding heat. I approve this message lol
I so agree and thank you for the endorsement

Sharon,You look very gorgeous with your mask❤😍😘🌷⚘🌹💐
Oh thank you! Rocking a respirator now that is and achievement lol

Got to share a good message and a great artist. Don't forget the new year, its project time again. Have a wonderful Christmas beautiful
Hi. I want to use UV resin to coat/dome polymer clay in my garden and cure it using direct sunlight. I wouldn't be around when it's curing. Do you still recommend using a respirator when I pour the resin on the polymer clay? I was thinking of using an FFP2 mask, safety glasses and gloves.
What I wonder is if resin is relatively safe when it's not being cured. Thanks a lot.
Hello, thank you for the helpful video! Do you know for how long I can use a filter in my respirator mask before I have to change them? I've been working with UV resin for 3 years but I only started taking it more seriously now, because I need to work with it more frequently so I want to make sure I won't have any health issues from it later.
This is really helpfull! Though could i ask where u bought ur respirator? And what u searched for? Cause I love doing resin and not till 3 months ago my parents read that it was toxic and they said if I wanted to keep doing it, I had to get safer equipment. Have a wonderful day! 🥰
Your can find them on Amazon easy, I search respirator for fumes. Most of them are linked to resin use but consider if you want a full face mask or half. if you got for half consider protecting your eyes as you can get tiny resin bubbles.
Hello! Im about to start my resin journey. Your videos have been of much help. Have you ever worked with resin outside? Do you think that'd be the safest place?
The more ventilate the better IMO I would though consider the environment as heat and cold impact it and you done want flys in there. Good luck and enjoy your journey
Go girl, great update...thanks🌼
You are so welcome
When I’m mixing pigments into the resin and pouring into the mould, I find the mask gives me a really bad neck ache. I can only make about two small pendants for jewellery before I realise my neck is in a lot of pain where I work on a desk and am looking down.
Do I need the filter mask on the entire time? Like once it’s cured for example and I’m attaching things to the pendent or when I’m making my next coloured batch I can switch to the thinner mask?
I feel I’d get a lot more done and not be in so much neck and shoulder pain if I could swap out to a lighter mask when I’m not curing the resin.
Hey, I want to use uv resin to seal up some artworks of mine (rather small a few centimeters at most) but there is not much on safety advise on the internet for UV resin (other then gloves) but I wanted to ask what mask one should wear. I hope you could help me.
P.S. I love your art and videos!
Thank you so much, Resin and UV Resin gives of fume when you add the heat, so I would wear one. I find the smell of UV way worse
hi there, great video by the way ! I just wanted to ask a quick question. What kind of mask or respirator would be suited best at protecting one self from isopropyl alcohol fumes ?
I use a gas mask from Amazon, if you put in resin respirator you will get a selection. You can also go to your paint hardware area.
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt thank you for the reply ! I know my question was quite off topic but thank you anyways :)
Is it okay to work on Resin outdoors? Would the fumes travel to other places such as my neighbors and would they be affected?
I'm only looking to work with resin one time for a gift. Do you think I'll be fine with a regular mask and gloves for the one time use?
It really depends on the Resin and any health problems you have. Whilst I should always encourage PPE if you are only using it once and not repeatedly, I would work on it outside in fresh air if possible. Or in a place where you can open every window. At the end of the day its your body so its about a calculated risk, I know it sounds vague but if you get addicted after you first play with Resin please invest in a ventilator. I sometime make a calculated risk when i do a step by step tutorial.
Hi Sharon i have small space in the house so I use one of the corner in the common area to do pouring, am wondering if the respirator is only needed during pouring like the smell would last in the room for hours, but wondering if the poison in it would last as long as it smells? do I have to leave the window open 24hours before its fully cured, worry as I have elders in the house. Thanks in advance!!
I would have to recommend you were one as soon as you mix your chemicals and work on your piece. Most chemicals come out when you are adding heat to it but some people can have reaction all the time. Once I have finished working on a piece and its curing I remove my respirator but I have my art covered up, window open and my door open. Sometime I take a walk to balance out the smell. See how you go when working with it but also be cautious and see how you respond to it. Don't eat or drink in the room with Resin where possible, its something the manufacturers recommend. Hope that helps
Do you need a respirator for just making a silicone mold? (No resin)
Hi, what's the black thing behind you? Is it a fume extractor? I need one but can't seem to find one. Many thanks in advance :)
Its a dust extractor called purmate.
Thank you so much for this info!!♡♡
You are so welcome!
Hi im a beginner resin artist and im using respiratory, but unlike yours it has only one filter and although i keep it tight i can smell my resin a bit. Will light resin odor still be dangerous? Im also asthmatic so I don't want to risk my health. Please reply
All Resin can be harmful, you need to always wear a respirator, when you add heat you release fumes. So well ventilated, don't drink in there or eat, have it well ventilated. Just make sure your respirator is one that projects from fumes. I get mine from amazon. Thank you so much, sorry for the late response I have 4 months out for creating to be with Neil and buy our new home. I am back creating again so looking forward to the creative year ahead
Awesome thx so very much appreciate it ❤️🥰🌹
Thank you
You look very gorgeous with your Respirator ❤😍😘🌷⚘💐🌹
I love it
Hello! I had a question, I hear you mention its toxic when heating, if I do not use a heat gun and allow epoxy uv resin to cure never having apply heat, would I still need a mask?
Yes you would I am afraid
Can you tell me what kind of respirator it is that you use? I also wear glasses making my choice somewhat more difficult.
Not sure of bran my partner got it for me from the hardware store. It has filters in it to prevent breathing in fumes
So helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello 👋🏻 first of all hope you are doing great! Second, I will be using uv resin to top of some shrink dinky charms, and would like to know if a surgical mask layered with a n95 mask would be enough to protect me?
I would do your research but I think N95 mask it to prevent dust and spit particles not for preventing fumes.
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt thank you for replying!
Do uv resin projects last as long as epoxy resin projects and how long would your resin things last?
Normally much bigger project with Epoxy Resin, UV resin instant gratification but still work if working in details jewellery
Hello. Which respirator do you use?
One that protects against fumes
How often do you change the filters?
Hi! How often do you change your filter cartridges?
There are dates on the filters for when they run out, or quicker that that if you are stopping you breathe easily.
what about an n95 facemask? I'm seeing the respirators should be n95 and I'm wondering if n95 facemasks would be fine as I'm not doing this longterm?
I am not a medial professional, nor a Dr, I would say you need a respirator but do some research and make your own opinion.
Hiiii what filters are you currently using?
Once to protect again fumes
Hi, if I follow these steps i should be completely safe right?
Also research and follow the guides on your manufactures. These should help protect you but sometimes even with these step people can have skin reactions so its worth trying different brands of Resin
Hi Sharon, what is the brand of this mask please ? thank you
Hello, Its one from the local DIY store from the tool shop, one that is specifics for fumes.
do you think wearing a n95 mask and working outdoors would be enough?
Honestly I don't unless it has filters. You need one you can get from a local hardware store for paints and fumes IMO. Outdoors is a good option always if you can as well ventilated areas are best. When you need to heat up you resin you will be close to it and still breathing in the fumes. I would say do you research, and regardless of what manufacturers say protect your lungs as we all react differently. Hope you opinion helps but its just my opinion.
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt thank you very much
Is it important to wear mask if the resin we use is non toxic????
No resin is non toxic
Do I need to put on safety glasses over my own glasses? or are my normal glasses enough?
Keep researching IMO any glasses will add proaction from the little air bubble of resin going in your eyes.
Can i use 3M niosh certified mask ..? that's on Amazon
I am not sure of the bran just makes sure its one for fumes
Wear do I purchase a respirator like that??
I got mine from BNQ
Can I use a spray paint or dust respirator for it?
also right now it’s very windy. So if I work outside with a spray paint or dust ventilator and put the resin moods in a box and put it on a heater for curing would that work? Like all that?
I would recommend following the manufactures instructor as they all differ so much. I use the respirator from a local hard ware store for paint fumes. Resin is best cured at a natural heat and not on heaters but you can work outside with resin and cover it in a box but temperatures can impact curing. Too ot or Too cold can cause it not not cure or cure too fast or create mist, so do some research on the brands you are thinking of using.
Do I need to ware my respirator when using UV resin?
I would say say as its the heating phase that releases fumes and you do get a lot releasing from UV Resin
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt where did you get your respirator?
Do you use a respirator with uv resin too?
I use it with all Resin
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt kk
Would you recommend that particular mask for us resin as well?
I sue the one from a local DIY hardware store, the one in the paint area for fumes
Sharon Lindley - Vividdays Okay thank you!
can you using valve masks when handling resin?
You really should use one with filters
You don't say what the make or brand of the mask is?
Its from BNQ from the tool section for fumes
👍👍👍💙💙💙
Thanks
can i use disposable medical masks for uv resin ?
I would suggest do some more research and make an informed decisions. UV Resin can be very strong I wear a mask when working with it.
you can actually hear you really well you should wear that more often in videos
I now have a mic
Can i use np 306 respirator mask? Someone answer please 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Not sure what it is you need one for fumes
Is it every type of resin that needs a mask? What does she mean when she say's mixing powder? The resin I have is not powder.
Yes to all types of Resin and some colour are pigments or mica powders which is dust or powder as i call it
Many subscribe to channels where they work with resin because the content is cute... but they don't wear gloves. Hard to know if they are wearing masks, etc. because you dubbed over the video, but gloves are important. I immediately go to the next video if they're not wearing gloves as it takes away from their reputation, leigitimacy, etc.
Nobody cared who she was until she making resin coasters
is that a bad thing Slider?
Hello How often do you change the filters?
As recommended, or when you start to struggle to breath, every 6 months for me as not using them full time
@@SharonLindleyVividDaysArt thank you so much.. I also havr a VOC filtering air purifier.. I am a hairdresser and photographer also.. I find they really cut down on fumes... My air conditioner filters also are high merv and help filter out a lot.. But I went for a whole face mask...As my half mask fogged up my goggles. I really appreciate you making this video it's most generous and truthfully a necessary message to get out.. Thank you
