I am a long time epoxy user, very fond of experimentation to test the limitations of my chemicals. After nearly 20 years I just now picked up my first bottle of uv resin, and I find that it may not be as good for jewelry making as one might think. It's really really easy to dissolve, in rubbing alcohol. Also house cleaning supplies (pine sol mr clean, tilex) and shampoo will make it cloudy by eating the surface off of it. If you want your jewelry to last long it should probably be glazed or fully coated in regular epoxy resin. Ooooone more thing! Don't use clear nail polish, mod podge, triple thick, or diamond glaze to glaze your jewelry pieces, those things are not meant to be worn against the skin, they will flake off after a very short time, especially if they are banged around a good bit.
Oh wow, thank you for all these tips! This is really helpful!
I like to think that after all of this time I am at least a master of knowing what not to do with resin.
I was gonna ask this. I wanted to use uv, but I hear about clouding and yellowing after. Couple of months.
Thank you for the valuable information, I appreciate you sharing your expertise.
I heard all resins turn yellow eventually but which one turn yellow slower??
You went straight to the point! I like videos like this very informative!! 👌🏼
Thank you! I like straightforward videos, so that's the kind of videos I try to make!
This is prob my new fave how to/info video. You wasted no time getting right to the point. VERY detailed and CLEAR THANK YOU!
Thank you Asia! I try to keep things short and sweet!
Have recently bought various supplies to try my hand at this but had not heard anywhere there is a strong smell to the UV resin. That information was very helpful.
This is literally the best video of a summarization of resin I have watched so far!!!
Thanks so much! I found it so confusing as a new crafter so I’m so glad it was helpful for you!
DIY Alex you don’t even know how confused I was haha😵🤣🤣🤣
Hahahah I hear you! 😂😂😂 it happens to all of us!
Thank you for getting straight to the point. Info Plus!!! Great explanation. Certainly answered all my queries.
Thank you for the great information. No messing around and straight to the point. Very pleasing to listen to.
You're welcome! I'm glad you like my straight shooting style :)
I want to say thank you! Your video was so concise and very informative. I really appreciated the safety tips. I think a lot of ppl dont know about them and I really appreciated that you put it in your video. I wasnt sure if UV resin had the same precautions. Thank you!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad it was helpful!
Glad you covered the safety! This was really in-depth. I was feeling epoxy was a bit over whelmng but glad I found out both require the safety precautions before buying UV resin too
I’m so glad it was helpful 🙂 good luck! The hardest part is getting started.
Thank you SO much! This is exactly what I was looking for. I should have watched it before I bought supplies yesterday! Thanks again, great video!
So helpful. Answered exactly the questions I had. Thank you 😊
I’m just getting into resin and wow this is the most helpful video I’ve seen! I definitely think I’ll be trying the uv resin. Thank you so much!!!!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad it’s been helpful!
same here but im still experimenting on what i want to do
It takes a lot of experimenting to get good practice!!
yes, i need to look intot he resin, the epoxy has had alot of creaters not using safety gear and getting ill =(. maybe resin a safer option
Hi Savannah, I've always used epoxy resin but I believe UV resin creates a harder, more scratch resistant surface for jewelry. My question is, is it a low viscosity like water? Because I coat the top of my jewelry for a domed finish and wonder if uv resin will stay on the top or try to run over the edges.
This was very helpful! Short and straight to the point.
I'm so glad it was helpful! That's how I like to watch videos, so that's how I try to make them too!
This video was extremely insightful. I really appreciate it. Thanks so much!
Great comparison video! THANK YOU!
this video was very informative. thank you for taking the time to break things down. About to start my resin journey and this gave me more confidence to begin
I'm so glad to hear that! Have fun with resin!
I still not understand ..which one is best for beginners...please tell me clear someone 🙏
"Of course you can use the UV light from the sunshine if you'd like but since the weather is not always gonna be consistent..."
Philippines: HOLD MY BEER
hahahha If you've got consistently strong sun then go for it!
@@DIYAlex aweee thanks hahaha question tho, is it okay to still use UV light to dry normal epoxy?
Whhahaha😂😂
The UV light won’t have much of an effect on the epoxy. It only helps with UV resin 😊
@@DIYAlex oooh okay'2 thank yoooou
This video was super helpful!!!! I loved it!!! I've watched so many videos regarding this question and none have helped but this one was perfect!
Glad it was helpful!
Im new in this kind of diy’s and confused about the two.. it really helps me identified . Thank u!
Thanks for the info Alex, I wondered what the heck uv resin was for. Love ya Alex!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad this clarified that for you!! ❤️
Thanks for explanation! Once I’m able to get a respirator I’m going to start with UV resin. I’m to impatient for the other stuff lol
You're welcome! I'm glad you figured that out before you got frustrated waiting for epoxy! :)
Same !
Amazing video. Got straight to the point while keeping us entertained. Definitely subscribed!!
Thank you! I aim to be straight to the point but still fun to watch! Welcome to my crafty fam!
this is the most helpful and succinct video I've seen on this so far :D great job!
Thank you!
Hi! Thank you for making this video! I was just wondering what resin would you recommend for using on sneakers, and if it’ll stick to the fabric on sneakers?
It won’t work for sneakers because the fabric or material moves too much and epoxy and UV resin are hard set so it would crack.
Hi Alex! Thank you for the video! It was super helpful! If I’m just starting out with UV resin should I buy a kn95 mask or a respirator mask or those mini respirator masks that just have those filters in the front?
I would buy a respirator. I love the 3M Cool Flow half respirator.
Just started doing resin a few weeks ago and I’m pleased that my decision to buy a respirator and the appropriate filters was the right one for me. I got the 3M 6200 half face mask + multi vapor / gas filters (P100), if you still need the advice. No smell gets through at all.
EDIT: I think it was $30 for the mask and $40 for the filters. Small price to pay for your health, if you ask me.
I’m just stepping into the epoxy/uv resin arena. This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 3 years later and still useful.
You’re welcome!! Some info doesn’t really change, so I’m glad you found it useful!
Extremely helpful and straight to the point!👏 Thank you!
Thanks for the explanation! I just want to ask if I can use like a regular mask or a disposable mask for epoxy resin?
I wouldn't use anything less protective than an N95 mask.
Thank you for this video!! Do u think the UV resin is ok to cure a phone case? Or AirPod case ?
You're welcome! I would avoid putting UV resin on anything that has to bend. So if your phone case has to bend to put your phone in it, UV resin is so rigid that it will probably crack when you go to put the phone in it.
This helps out a lot this is my favorite thing to do and you explained it so well thank you look forward to more videos
Best video, straight to business. Thank you!
Not all epoxy resin is 1:1 ratio. 2:1 is very common, and there are some much more complicated ratios. Also, some are by weight and some are by volume. Read YOUR resin's instructions to know for sure.
Yep, that's correct. I can't speak to every single epoxy brand in the video.
Yeah
This was very helpful!
Only thing I would change is saying that a mask is a personal choice. I guess it is, but it is very important for safety. You need your lungs for the rest of your life. Please don't risk it for a craft.
Epoxy resin doesn't have toxic fumes like polyester resin. It's still stinky, but it's non-toxic.
@@PerkyHedgewitch absolutely false.
Very informative. Thank you very much for sharing and caring about this craft. You go girl
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
great information and made clarification of both clearly. Cannot wait to explore these products.
I'm so glad it was helpful! They're a blast!
When you say use a mask, are medical/cloth masks fine to use?
No a cloth or medical mask won't be enough protection. An N95 would be the minimum I would recommend. I now wear a half face respirator from Amazon to filter the organic particles. You can find the mask in my Amazon store: www.amazon.com/shop/diyalex
Hey with Epoxy resin a heavy duty mask is NOT a choice. It is highly toxic. I recently saw a video where a woman got permanent lung damage. I don't know about uv resin.
The experience of one person doesn't mean that's the experience everyone will have. If epoxy was highly toxic you'd see a lot more issues and death due to using it than you do now. Remember that epoxy has been used for years in other industries, not just by crafters to make tumblers.
@@DIYAlex What...are you talking about? That doesn't make sense. There are lots of cases of people who've been exposed to Epoxy and dealing with serious health risks. That's why almost all companies and industries have industry work place standards to avoid injury. The only Epoxy resin I can even think of that is safer might be the brand specifically known as Art Resin.

Thank you! This video was informative as I begin to do resin as a hobby.
This couldn’t have been explained any better! You rock!?? I Love it!! Thank you!!!
You’re so welcome! ☺️
Such a helpful video, you've give me the boost I needed to jump into the resin game!!
Glad I could help! Thank You! -Lindsay
thank you so much for a thorough explanation
Thanks girl. I learned exactly what I needed to know 😊
Thank you so much. I am trying to look for what was the difference and see what can help me. It helped me see what products help with what when molding. I didn’t know what to buy and what products to use. Thank you for help clearing the product s out.
Can your give some tips and help on first time small business owns on resin and molds. What to expect with products and anything else you have in mind
omg TY sooooo much!!! I’ve been planning a shopping run for resin crafting and I honestly could not - for the life of me - understand why aome youtube crafters use a lamp and some did not. You explained this so succinctly, I get it now! HA, I solved a conundrum today and you got a new fan! subscribing now because you’re a great teacher and I’m brand spanking new to resin! thanks again
I'm so glad I could clear that up for you! I used to find it really confusing as well. Welcome to my crafty fam!
One of the best videos I've seen on the differences. Thanks!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video. Very informative and helpful. I'm a newbie to both of theses products.
You're welcome!
Thank you!..omg! You were so informative that I've learnt alot from your video.
Exactly what I needed - perfect, thank you.
Excellent comparison/contrast -- thanks! (and subbed). I'm quite familiar w/ many epoxies; I like its inherently binary mixing requirement: no accidental hardening. The UV stuff is new to me & I'll be testing several projects, both long & short term, big & small.
I'm just now getting into the epoxy and resin crafts. I'm a nail artist so i went with uv to start because I'm familiar with it from working with gels and stuff for nails. I'm excited to get started. Thank you for this informative video.
you're welcome!
I’m a nail tech too and I’m really excited to try UV resin. My only problem is I’m based in Cameroon 🇨🇲. It’s seeming hard for me to get the products
This is a helpful video for me. I have a little bit of experience with UV resin, but none with 2 part epoxy. Thanks!
Straight to the point, thanks for sharing
Another of good information. Thank you😊
I was looking up epoxy differences for pins but honestly this was pretty helpful.
I'm so glad!
Very informative! As a beginner i might try uv resin for practice then try epoxy later. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad it was helpful!
I'm buying my first resin and this has helped me find the resin that I wanted tnx so much 💚
I'm so glad it helped! :) You're welcome!
Very clear and informative video, thank you!!
You’re welcome!
thanks for sharing! great video... learn something too.. NOTE: not all epoxy same type also so mixing not always 1to1radio. depends on what type and brand you use. anyway thanks
Great video! Your succinct style is thorough and easy to follow. I’ll be back!
Thank you Karen! I'm happy to have you in my Crafty Fam :)
Very useful knowledge about resin 🙂

your videos are so helpful to my adhd brain thank you!
I’m glad I can help!
This is very useful for people that want to start resin, just like what I plan to do :)
I’m so glad it was helpful! ☺️
Very informative and useful video, thank you so much for all the tips. I've been using AB resin for about four years to put a thick coat on top small flat acrylic pieces and the part of having to measure and mix it properly is not my favorite and I also the many hours it takes to dry completely is always against my need to have the pieces ready in a small amount of time.. I've also had some issues sometimes with humidity. Certain level of humidity in the air (like during the rainy season) has caused the resin not to curate completely and it stays sticky ruining the pieces because there's nothing you can do. I figured out a way to control and prevent this by putting the pieces inside a plastic container with hermetic lid and with a 2cm layer at the bottom of thsee tiny round pellets that are used to trap humidity. I place the acrylic pieces directly on this layer of pellets and since I've been doiing it the pieces curate perfectly well. I want to try UV resin but what I've knowns so far about has just left me all confused. Some say it's perfect for jewelry, others say it's not, Some say it is crystal clear, some say it's yellowish... and the worst I've read is here in your comments which say that it easily turns cloudy with alcohol, soap or some other cleaning supplies, so now I don't know if I should try it or not. I believe I'll give it a try so I may see by myself how it works. I wanted to buy it from your Amazon store buy I was dissapointed to find it's not available. Any other place where that brand that you recommend may be found?
That’s awesome that you found a solution to the humidity problem, Nora! I have only ever purchased Limino UV Resin from Amazon so I don’t have another source currently. Sorry about that!
@@DIYAlex THANK YOU ALEX! I have already ordered another brand of UV Resin from Amazon, it arrives in three days, so finally I’ll see if it works for me or not.
Same concerns regarding about uv resins
I also heard that all resin turn yellowish eventually. And that it gets faster when the heat it's too hot....I'm from the Philippines 😅 where it's mostly hot all day long....I'm getting scared but I really want to start and try using resins
You explained that very well.
Thank you!
Very informative. Thank you! 😊
You’re welcome!
Loved your video, very informative!! Can I paint the project using epoxy after it has hardened? Or do I have to decorate it in the mold with glitter, floers etc? Thank you
so helpful! def want to know more about uv resin
I'm so glad! Have you seen my UV resin tutorial?
@@DIYAlex not yet will def check it

You’re welcome! I’m so glad to hear it was helpful!
*NEW SUBSCRIBER* thank you so much for this I needed it as I am going to make my first purchase of uv resin. Thanks for the link and all the information. I was hoping with the uv resin it wouldn't have the ventilation problem to make it easier 😟 🙏🏼❤️
Welcome! I would take all the same safety precautions with UV resin that I recommend Kent epoxy, including using them in areas with good ventilation.
@@DIYAlex thank you so much 🙏🏼
Very good explain
Wow this is the most helpful video..
Thank you!
Helo.. Finally I got the answer of the difference between this two.. Thanks a lot.. Question
I have epoxy the mixing is 2:1 I was really busy minded so I mixed equally but the work all go to trash can more than month didn't cured what to do in such problem
You have to mix the epoxy at the recommend ratio or it won’t cure.
Thank you for info
Thank you for this informative video

I do appreciate this video. Thank you
