Surprisingly, going up to the water tower you had some strong headwind and to compound it you stood up to pedal the bike so actually the bike could probably handle it better with no wind. People don't realize how much the wind has an affect on biking. A real good review of the bike and thanks!

Thank you for this review. Very thorough and technical. I'm about 20lbs over weight and way out of shape. No farther or harder than I would have to use it , this model would be perfect to get me out there and not hate it. I really like the option of throttle or petal assist. Also the extended range using pedal assist would make a moderate commute or nice nature ride more enjoyable.Even if they did test it on flat ground to get those numbers., 2/3 of that is still 35 to 40 miles. Plus , I live in SW Florida and it is flat as it gets and heck it might just get 50 or 60 miles. I'm going to get one and I'll let you know if I can pull those numbers.We have really nice paved bike paths that are separate , but run next to our roads. Lots of tax $ here. Our infrastructure is great. This review was so helpful. I know now I don't need a $1500 or $1800 unit. You do a great job.... Edit :. Oh yeah , I subbed. Reminded me of my first (and sadly thus far only) e-bike, a Cyclamatic PowerPlus, 24v, 250w hub brushless motor, went well, pretty impressive for around 5yrs ago... Everyone who had a spin on it loved it. Drawbacks were, 6speed, and weighed 26kg, if the battery went flat it was hell to ride. It had throttle only/pedal assist/both modes combined. Had it for 2-3 yrs and sure had my fun with it. I was the only person i knew of in Yorkshire/UK I knew of who had an e-bike then. Took a long time for them to catch on, seen kids now on sur-rons flying about. That bike at the time was the best £600 I ever spent... Oh the memories, was great seeing ppl in cars like "WTF??!!! - As I flew past em, hahaaa!!"
my homeboy spent $3,000 on his ebike, american made, but it's a awesome look, changes speeds, moves quiccccck, made to haul 300 pounds in weight. Anyway he had to upgrade a lot, the tires, the mirrors, lighting, security, a bit of a pain because the shops are always full of people waiting to get there e bikes fixed. Other than that perfect for work
Really good review of this bike. I also purchased it and will definitely test out the brakes and upgrade to 180mm rotors and better quality brake pads. If possible could you mention the brake pad and rotor part numbers which would help in my search. The max weight supported on this bike is 300lbs and im around 260lbs. new to your channel today having built bikes for a few years using bbso2 [mainly because its really hilly here in uk] this looks a decent bike i would only add a suspension seat post and possibly marathon plus tyres all in 100dollars and your good to go. great review and keep it up
I have the exact same bike. I replaced the pedals, seat and tyres with better quality. Will replace the forks as well. After 50 miles the pedal assist sensor broke. It's one of those splined ones set in the crank, hard to get. The manufacturer answered my questions about getting a new sensor initially but the answers then stopped. You can't get parts for them, you can buy batteries but thats it. I ended up using a generic splined 12 mag sensor with the connector off the broken part. It works but isn't ideal. I like the bike but some parts are not good quality.
For budget bike they put quite a lot of extra features such as ...chain guard and the gear guard and horn and light ...these features you get when spend extra on ebikes ....so i am kinda impressed that they added those to this budget bike ...and i wonder how much cheaper they could sell this by using more basic parts
I´ve bin ridin´ e-bikes For about 5 years now. Thatś a better general purpose bike than my first one which cost more than 3 times as much. That bike is quite similar to the one I ride now. Mine is a bit meatier, but then so am I. I´m impressed; That´s a lot of bike for the price. One could afford to accessorize or customize to taste a bit.
This bike is very similar to the Ancheer Hummer 500watt. I purchased the hummer because the frame looked nicer. The colors are even the same. Edit: I actually prefer the battery being on top of the frame for one you can easily upgrade the battery and swap it out for something bigger. For two when you have the controller inside the frame you can’t upgrade that either and they come with very weak controllers. I put a 1500 W controller on my hummer and it crushes hills now. Also put a 30 amp hour battery.
The battery and cables tucked away look very nice. I love it. However, I'm afraid that feature could be a maintenance problem for some who are not handy mechanically or getting old.
This looks like a good entry level bike but it would show better if it was offered with fenders. As you pointed out, the handle bar riser could be improved. Over others I've seen the best part is the price point. A bike for consideration.
Before you spend any money on an eBike, consider a kit. For about $650 I got a 48v 1000w motor kit ($250) and a 52v 20ah battery ($400). I get a consistent, throttle only, top speed of 32mph. And, urban riding, with no regard for going slower to conserve battery, just riding around the city - I get 40 miles of, throttle only, range on a charge.
Also consider your state laws… For example I Live in California where Type 2 Ebikes are restricted in some areas such as beaches and some bike trails, and your also Legally Required by Law to put a Sticker of what type of Ebike you have meaning Motor Wattage and Throttle. In California anything over 750 watt motor is no Longer considered and Ebike but now a Moped and you need to have a license to legally ride it. Summary Read up on your states law on ebikes, and know if it’s a Type 1-3, Ebike and where your allowed to ride your Ebike.
@@dentalcosmos - I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction, so this could get a bit lengthy. Read what you want. Disregard the rest. First, the answer to your question is Amazon. But there are few things to consider. - Probably the biggest issue, besides performance vs cost, of whether to go with a kit is having to decide where and how you'll mount the battery and controller. Factory bikes have these built in to the design. For me this wasn't a problem. I turned a large ammo can on its side, bolted it to my rear rack, and put the components in there - But you need to figure this out before you buy the stuff. You can pay extra for a battery with a case designed to mount on a bike frame - or one built in to a rear rack, ya just gotta do a bit of looking around to see what will work best for you - If I could do it over, I would not have bought the cheapest kit. I would spend an extra $50 bucks, or so, to get a kit with an LCD Display (the cheaper kits just have a 3-light battery indicator on the throttle. An LCD Display will give you a speedometer, odometer, trip, odometer, battery indicator, voltage meter, clock, etc. The Display will also allow you to program features on the controller - worth the extra money. - That's about the most i can tell you - you'll need to do a bit of research and planning, but I highly recommend the 48v 1000w motor / 52v 20ah battery combo- 500w motor is too small for me, and 1500w seems like overkill. If you don't need the high performance, you could build a 48v 500w motor / 48v 14ah battery bike that would go 20mph for about 20 miles - for less

I don't know what the laws are, but I zip around Louisville 25-30 mph, and ride local bike trails - and no one has ever tried to stop me. But, yeah, I guess it could be an issue, especially if you live in a Nanny State.
That's a pretty good price for a e-bike but be careful I'm sure you've heard about the battery casings exploding so on these off-brand bikes that they're just pumping out cheap be very careful that's all I'm trying to say take care of yourself and keep an eye on it when you're charging it put it somewhere far away from everything and keep it out of the house
Reallly no fenders . selling my 2 vivi bikes - bad electrical problem and can not get parts . bought another brand bike better features and installed safety clips front , not quick release ,. cost $700.free delivery . careful what you buy i do 100 miles a week with locking battery and lock cable bike with key .
I did notice that on the left fork tube, there is an adjuster... those are usually on oil/spring forks. The right side, as you mentioned, locks it out. Did you try adjusting the left fork leg knob? Thanks.
I really hate this trend towards the single front chain ring. It is hard on the drivertrain due to cross chaining and your range is limited. As well as being noisier. I guess I will just hold onto my vintage 1995 Univega 503 and replace the parts as needed. Never had an issue finding 26 inch tires and tubes and they are super cheap compared to everything else. Have a 2005 Specialized Expedition as well. Been thinking of converting that to an electric bike with a rear hub kit. Like my Univega it has a triple front chain ring and good old fashioned rim brakes. Never had an issue with them. As long as I can skid the back tire for maximum braking power I see no reason to switch to something more complicated which doesn't work any better and costs more.
So, if 27.5 inch wheels is now the gold standard, what do short people do, who actually need a 24 inch? I am only 5' 2.5" tall, and I can ride a 26", but there is some strain. I can only be really comfortable on a 24". So, I guess I may have to get a 20 inch and hope I can raise the seat enough. A 27 inch, or 27.5 inch, is absolutely out of the question for me.
to make a long and reasoned story short, the best ebike is the one that will allow you to get back home, several kilometers with uphills, after the motor stopped working. I wonder why reviewers and influencers do not start here.

I have HJM Trike that's a two thousand dollars that doesn't have Hydraulic brakes. I often wondered why because for the price tag it sure should have had Hydraulic brakes and much more. Probably the only way you can get all the Bells and Whistles you deserve for the price is to customize and assemble your own.

I use a 45 degree angle stem and bars that have a slight rise and backsweep to keep my head and shoulders up higher. You just need to buy the correct diameter bar because some stems are bigger and smaller. Bmx stems are smaller and high end bikes can be bigger.
@@ZancoIntel that’s great. Congratulations. As for 40mph that’s probably not going to be possible with a 500 watt motor and a 36 volt battery pack. Volts are like horse power. You will need a 72volt battery to even get close to 40mph.

As usual for the UK the exchange rate from US to UK is ridicules, this is why I go to ebay , a bike for $800 is £800 what a joke, such a shame they miss out so much when they do that.
The best advice I can give to people buying an electric bike, ask what the cells are made of, Samsung lithium ion cells are the best. Next warranty, how many times can I fast charge before the battery becomes useless. Good batteries are $700.00.
Such a stupid decision by walmart to bump the price of the Hyper. They probably only did it because it got popular, but all they did was kill interest in it.
As of March 13 2021 Walmart's Online store (where they sell the Hyper Ebike) is now priced at $648.00. December 2020 it was priced at $598.00, upped $50.00 inside of 3-months! I live in Carson City NV (north) and it is definitely is hilly here. In the last year there has been a LOT of E bikes hitting our streets, including the Hyper. The Hyper DOES NOT DO HILLY ANYTHING. Everyone I know returned their bikes to Walmart. VERY poorly made, does not always work properly AND you have to pay to have it put together at Walmart. NOW IF someone older was starting out on an E bike I would have recommended the Hyper at $300.00 or less, just to see it was for you BEFORE spending Thousands of $$$ on a REALLY good E bike...but not now and definitely not at that price point. Just another point on how greedy Walmart is! For the price point I still recommend The 'Lectric' E bike. Small enough for 1st timers and it can come in the 'foldable'. Norm price is $999.00 BUT it is on sale right now for $899.00 which pushes the 'Hyper' out the door into the trash for price and reliability. Just my two-cents 🥰
I walked into the North Carson City Walmart store and talked with a worker there. He said they NEVER have them in the store UNLESS someone has returned it! And the price is reduced at that time on a RETURN to be sold, Not a brand NEW E bike. I asked him to look up the price on their website to confirm the price I had seen on my laptop. It was the same. I like hub drive better than direct drive , Hub drive has so much instant torque for climbing , I bet you any money if your bike had direct drive , you probably wouldn't have made up that hill
@@mixflip I think he means a geared hub drive vs direct drive hub. Geared hubs have a planetary gearset inside that gives more torque because the motor can spin faster and the reduction gears give the rpm range that the bike needs, lets say roughly (guessing here) a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 turns for the motor means 1 turn for the wheel. It's like 1st or 2nd gear on a truck vs only having one gear, third, on a truck. The geared hub will climb hill better, but will be limited in top speed, while a direct drive hub motor is going to work best at higher speeds, but has less torque coming off of the line from a dead stop. My first ebike was a 1000 watt conversion kit, direct drive hub, and it's slow off of the line but top speed is 25 plus mph, closer to 30. On hills though, steep ones, it really gets bogged down. My second ebike build has a mid drive Bafang setup, and it has gears inside, and a lot more torque. But a geared hub does also. Direct drive motors can have regen braking, but geared hubs don't have that due to the mechanics. Another thing you'll notice with direct drive is that there's "drag" when pedalling without power, due to the cogging of the motor. On my 1000 watt direct drive it's very noticeable, I'd say it's 25% harder to pedal with no power, so you have to use some power. With a geared hub, pedaling without power isn't as difficult as it is with direct drive, because there's a clutch of some sort, or I guess it's called a freewheel. I've yet to ride a bike with a geared hub, I only have my mid-drive Bafang SSHD, but without power it's not really harder to pedal at all. I'll likely get better range. I wonder if the other 399 bike had a geared hub or a direct drive...I'm thinking bit was direct drive because of how fast the wheel slowed down when you stopped pedalling, but maybe it has regen braking/electric brake. Regen doesn't put much power back in because of conversion losses, it's probably only usable on really long downhills. You may know all of this already, but if anyone reads this maybe they'll learn some. I'm not an expert on all of this but have been messing with e-bikes for about 3 years or so. Now I want a fatbike! Good work!

@@kstrejc99 I would say it's small for a guy that big. I'm 200lbs and 5'10" with my favorite shoes on...and it's small. But I converted my cybertrack to a big BMX ebike so it not as small feeling anymore. I put BMX bars on and now it makes me feel like a big kid. I actually love it as a 26" BMX ebike.
It does bolt on. It has a tab you screw the bolts through. You can take it off or replace it if it brakes....or you can just ad a regular kick stand by the bottom bracket like normal.
I just saw a video that said there might be a 30% tax credit on your tax filing for ebike pirchases. I hope that happens because I bought an ebike in 2020 and 2021 😆
Thanks for watching. Lectric is good. Just be aware it uses an old school threaded head set and quil stem so you will be limited on any fork upgrades. Bolton bikes did a review on the fork setup and overall review too on lectric. I like the traditional size of a regular mountain bike.

As I said in the video...hub drives are NOT good for climbing. Hub drives are great for flat land and gentle hills. As for folding, I did not show it folding because this bike clearly doesnt fold. Its a full size bike. folders are usually 20 inch smaller bikes and are not tough enough for hard trail riding. As for paid videos. No, Macwheel did not pay me a cash fee to film a review. I purchased the bike 100% with my own money. $900 of my hard earned money. I can say the bike sucks if I wanted to...but the bike was decent for a sub $1000 ebike. If I had any issues I would have told you in the video because no one paid me a dime to give a good review.

For two when you have the controller inside the frame you can’t upgrade that either and they come with very weak controllers. I put a 1500 W controller on my hummer and it crushes hills now. Also put a 30 amp hour battery.

I actually bought this bike for my wife to ride with our 3 kids. I personally want a full suspension ebike. Too bad they are crazy expensive.
This looks like a good entry level bike but it would show better if it was offered with fenders. As you pointed out, the handle bar riser could be improved. Over others I've seen the best part is the price point. A bike for consideration.
USB ports are usually on the display, activated by pressing +/-
Before you spend any money on an eBike, consider a kit. For about $650 I got a 48v 1000w motor kit ($250) and a 52v 20ah battery ($400). I get a consistent, throttle only, top speed of 32mph. And, urban riding, with no regard for going slower to conserve battery, just riding around the city - I get 40 miles of, throttle only, range on a charge.
Also consider your state laws… For example I Live in California where Type 2 Ebikes are restricted in some areas such as beaches and some bike trails, and your also Legally Required by Law to put a Sticker of what type of Ebike you have meaning Motor Wattage and Throttle. In California anything over 750 watt motor is no Longer considered and Ebike but now a Moped and you need to have a license to legally ride it. Summary Read up on your states law on ebikes, and know if it’s a Type 1-3, Ebike and where your allowed to ride your Ebike.

@@dentalcosmos - I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction, so this could get a bit lengthy. Read what you want. Disregard the rest.
First, the answer to your question is Amazon. But there are few things to consider.
- Probably the biggest issue, besides performance vs cost, of whether to go with a kit is having to decide where and how you'll mount the battery and controller. Factory bikes have these built in to the design. For me this wasn't a problem. I turned a large ammo can on its side, bolted it to my rear rack, and put the components in there - But you need to figure this out before you buy the stuff. You can pay extra for a battery with a case designed to mount on a bike frame - or one built in to a rear rack, ya just gotta do a bit of looking around to see what will work best for you
- If I could do it over, I would not have bought the cheapest kit. I would spend an extra $50 bucks, or so, to get a kit with an LCD Display (the cheaper kits just have a 3-light battery indicator on the throttle. An LCD Display will give you a speedometer, odometer, trip, odometer, battery indicator, voltage meter, clock, etc. The Display will also allow you to program features on the controller - worth the extra money.
- That's about the most i can tell you - you'll need to do a bit of research and planning, but I highly recommend the 48v 1000w motor / 52v 20ah battery combo- 500w motor is too small for me, and 1500w seems like overkill. If you don't need the high performance, you could build a 48v 500w motor / 48v 14ah battery bike that would go 20mph for about 20 miles - for less

I don't know what the laws are, but I zip around Louisville 25-30 mph, and ride local bike trails - and no one has ever tried to stop me. That's a pretty good price for a e-bike but be careful I'm sure you've heard about the battery casings exploding so on these off-brand bikes that they're just pumping out cheap be very careful that's all I'm trying to say take care of yourself and keep an eye on it when you're charging it put it somewhere far away from everything and keep it out of the house

Throttle is great for intersections and getting to speed from a stop.
Reallly no fenders . selling my 2 vivi bikes - bad electrical problem and can not get parts . bought another brand bike better features and installed safety clips front , not quick release ,. cost $700.free delivery . careful what you buy i do 100 miles a week with locking battery and lock cable bike with key .
I did notice that on the left fork tube, there is an adjuster... those are usually on oil/spring forks. The right side, as you mentioned, locks it out. Did you try adjusting the left fork leg knob? Thanks.
I believe that is just a pre load adjuster for my weight. It didnt dampen the rebound at all.

I really hate this trend towards the single front chain ring. It is hard on the drivertrain due to cross chaining and your range is limited. As well as being noisier. I guess I will just hold onto my vintage 1995 Univega 503 and replace the parts as needed. Never had an issue finding 26 inch tires and tubes and they are super cheap compared to everything else. Have a 2005 Specialized Expedition as well. Been thinking of converting that to an electric bike with a rear hub kit. Like my Univega it has a triple front chain ring and good old fashioned rim brakes. Never had an issue with them. As long as I can skid the back tire for maximum braking power I see no reason to switch to something more complicated which doesn't work any better and costs more.
1x systems don't hurt the drive train at all. It lightens up the bike as well as de-clutters the bike of gear and levers that rarely get used.
That is a beautiful e-bike.

So, if 27.5 inch wheels is now the gold standard, what do short people do, who actually need a 24 inch? I am only 5' 2.5" tall, and I can ride a 26", but there is some strain. I can only be really comfortable on a 24". So, I guess I may have to get a 20 inch and hope I can raise the seat enough. A 27 inch, or 27.5 inch, is absolutely out of the question for me.

to make a long and reasoned story short, the best ebike is the one that will allow you to get back home, several kilometers with uphills, after the motor stopped working. I wonder why reviewers and influencers do not start here.

I have HJM Trike that's a two thousand dollars that doesn't have Hydraulic brakes. I often wondered why because for the price tag it sure should have had Hydraulic brakes and much more. Probably the only way you can get all the Bells and Whistles you deserve for the price is to customize and assemble your own.

I use a 45 degree angle stem and bars that have a slight rise and backsweep to keep my head and shoulders up higher. You just need to buy the correct diameter bar because some stems are bigger and smaller. Bmx stems are smaller and high end bikes can be bigger.
Many battery manufacturer's stop including USB ports with the battery because of phantom drain. Better to have a USB that is switched on the bike.
I'm thinking about getting the TotGard folding 500watt bike. It's about the same price.

@@ZancoIntel that’s great. Congratulations. As for 40mph that’s probably not going to be possible with a 500 watt motor and a 36 volt battery pack. Volts are like horse power. You will need a 72volt battery to even get close to 40mph.

Its not hard at all. Just put on the front wheel and put on the handle bars. Its just a matter of tightening some bolts.

As usual for the UK the exchange rate from US to UK is ridicules, this is why I go to ebay , a bike for $800 is £800 what a joke, such a shame they miss out so much when they do that.
The best advice I can give to people buying an electric bike, ask what the cells are made of, Samsung lithium ion cells are the best. Next warranty, how many times can I fast charge before the battery becomes useless. Good batteries are $700.00.

As of March 13 2021 Walmart's Online store (where they sell the Hyper Ebike) is now priced at $648.00. December 2020 it was priced at $598.00, upped $50.00 inside of 3-months! I live in Carson City NV (north) and it is definitely is hilly here. In the last year there has been a LOT of E bikes hitting our streets, including the Hyper. The Hyper DOES NOT DO HILLY ANYTHING. Everyone I know returned their bikes to Walmart. VERY poorly made, does not always work properly AND you have to pay to have it put together at Walmart. NOW IF someone older was starting out on an E bike I would have recommended the Hyper at $300.00 or less, just to see it was for you BEFORE spending Thousands of $$$ on a REALLY good E bike...but not now and definitely not at that price point. Just another point on how greedy Walmart is! For the price point I still recommend The 'Lectric' E bike. Small enough for 1st timers and it can come in the 'foldable'. Norm price is $999.00 BUT it is on sale right now for $899.00 which pushes the 'Hyper' out the door into the trash for price and reliability. Just my two-cents 🥰

I'm going to try to get a rad rover 5 if I can. It's like 1,599. And 750 watt motir with 48 battery. I'm hoping it will climb hills. I'm in appalachia ky, I'm poor, if it doesn't work I can't afford to buy another one. I think that's most ppls problem, not knowing which bike to buy, especially at $1,599. I'm really nervous abt it.
It has a geared rear hub motor so normal hills should not be a problem.

I like hub drive better than direct drive , Hub drive has so much instant torque for climbing , I bet you any money if your bike had direct drive , you probably wouldn't have made up that hill
What is direct drive?
@@mixflip I think he means a geared hub drive vs direct drive hub. Geared hubs have a planetary gearset inside that gives more torque because the motor can spin faster and the reduction gears give the rpm range that the bike needs, lets say roughly (guessing here) a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 turns for the motor means 1 turn for the wheel. It's like 1st or 2nd gear on a truck vs only having one gear, third, on a truck. The geared hub will climb hill better, but will be limited in top speed, while a direct drive hub motor is going to work best at higher speeds, but has less torque coming off of the line from a dead stop. My first ebike was a 1000 watt conversion kit, direct drive hub, and it's slow off of the line but top speed is 25 plus mph, closer to 30. On hills though, steep ones, it really gets bogged down. My second ebike build has a mid drive Bafang setup, and it has gears inside, and a lot more torque. But a geared hub does also.
Direct drive motors can have regen braking, but geared hubs don't have that due to the mechanics. Another thing you'll notice with direct drive is that there's "drag" when pedalling without power, due to the cogging of the motor. On my 1000 watt direct drive it's very noticeable, I'd say it's 25% harder to pedal with no power, so you have to use some power. With a geared hub, pedaling without power isn't as difficult as it is with direct drive, because there's a clutch of some sort, or I guess it's called a freewheel. I've yet to ride a bike with a geared hub, I only have my mid-drive Bafang SSHD, but without power it's not really harder to pedal at all. I'll likely get better range.
I wonder if the other 399 bike had a geared hub or a direct drive...I'm thinking bit was direct drive because of how fast the wheel slowed down when you stopped pedalling, but maybe it has regen braking/electric brake. Regen doesn't put much power back in because of conversion losses, it's probably only usable on really long downhills.
You may know all of this already, but if anyone reads this maybe they'll learn some. I'm not an expert on all of this but have been messing with e-bikes for about 3 years or so. Now I want a fatbike!

But I converted my cybertrack to a big BMX ebike so it not as small feeling anymore. I put BMX bars on and now it makes me feel like a big kid. I actually love it as a 26" BMX ebike.

Main problem is that kickstand... being part of the frame is not good if it ever breaks, I rather have one you can bolt on and off.
It does bolt on. It has a tab you screw the bolts through. You can take it off or replace it if it brakes....or you can just ad a regular kick stand by the bottom bracket like normal.

As I said in the video...hub drives are NOT good for climbing. Hub drives are great for flat land and gentle hills.
As for folding, I did not show it folding because this bike clearly doesnt fold. Its a full size bike. folders are usually 20 inch smaller bikes and are not tough enough for hard trail riding.
As for paid videos. No, Macwheel did not pay me a cash fee to film a review. I purchased the bike 100% with my own money. $900 of my hard earned money. I can say the bike sucks if I wanted to...but the bike was decent for a sub $1000 ebike. If I had any issues I would have told you in the video because no one paid me a dime to give a good review.
"Better" depends on your use. Mid-drive has higher torque but hub drives will extend your charge.
