7:55 After you made a big deal of catching sight of the G-Man, I was tickled pink by the way you nearly missed him because you were busy reading the cover of a book on the ground.
HL1 with "the new Source engine" was called HL:Source and was released shortly after HL2. This mod - Black Mesa Source - is a whole new remake of HL1, redesigned and recreated from the ground up! The guys did a really professional job here!
Lmao! I must say that it's uncanny how much your thoughts throughout the beginning train sequence reflected my own upon downloading the game a few weeks back. I, too, had my eyes peeled for the ever-popular G-Man during this sequence, and, ironically, nearly missed him on my first playthrough, thinking that he appeared earlier than he did. Keep up the excellent work, bro. You're one of the very few people whose commentary, I feel, augments rather than hinders the viewing experience. :)
Omg, my apologies for the immediate follow-up comment, but I honestly cannot believe that someone else experienced the beginning of this game with the same unbridled joy and appreciation that I did. I can't tell you how many things you said throughout this video alone that I thought to myself while playing. I was absolutely floored by the attention to detail permeating this entire mod--there are simply SO many caring touches--and am glad to someone else who shares my enthusiasm.
I don't know if you've already got a comment on this but the decathlon line was already in the original Half-life ;) Oh and great job mate. I find your LP's very entertaining (at least the Valve ones since they are the only ones I've seen for now) :)
Upon completing the "Surface Tension" chapter, I can safely say that the modders' time was incredibly well-spent, and that I now know why this mod took so excruciatingly long to develop--because its in a league of its own in the mod world, packing in more TLC than the vast majority of "properly" developed blockbusters exceeding millions of dollars in production costs. Quite a feat, indeed, and the developers responsible deserve the utmost appreciation for their unparalleled modding efforts!
"You cut the pony-tail. Sellout." Is a reference to the original design for Gordan, affectionately named Ivan the Space Biker for his full beard and pony-tail.
more than just money, they deserve to be hired as a high-position developers by Valve. Imagine this kind of talent being put to use into FINALLY MAKING BLOODY EPISODE 3.
6:00 No, Chris, it's *not* significantly changed from the original. It's just your bad memory again (although I suppose we shouldn't be too hard on you after you played HL1 only once). The announcements are virtually word-for-word verbatim from HL1. The only change, AFAICT, is one word. In HL1, it was "...will be announced in a separate secure access transmission", whereas here it's "...will be announced in a separate secure broadcast transmission".
Regarding that. First off, love your content. Love your style. I will do my very best when it comes to geting your name out there, because you are so talented. You have the right gear, quality, everything. PS: I subbed.
Thanks poopchute (never thought I'd be saying that in a sentence). I'm uploading Half Life 2 right now, then I will be doing both episodes and lost cost. Then portal.
6:00 Actually that bit about the decathalon and your fitness being important is lifted nearly word for word from the original. Sorry I'm such a nitpicker.
You should have like millions of Views man ! I would personaly watch your videos over almost anyone on youtube ! Keep doin what your doin ! You'll Get There !
Almost. They did change one word: "secure access transmission" became "secure broadcast transmission". Not sure why. But other than that, it's the same words.
Yes... I am also already waiting for the Xen Chapter... and I do hope that this chapter is not just about platforming... good to know that they will make it even better...
Dr Gina Cross is one of the playable characters in Half life decay and the security guard who complained about gordon cutting off his poney tail said "say hi to dr cross for me"/
This looks FANTASTIC!! Wish I could play... don't have a Windows operating system capable of handling it though. I'm a recent convert to Half-Life/Portal and to Valve in general. I've had ENORMOUS fun playing what I have(HL1+2 and both eps.,Portal and Portal 2) and I agree with jrcartwright21390, your commentary is excellent, and enthusiastic. I think you've probably already finished your playthrough, but nevertheless, good luck, and beware of unforeseen consequences....
I just marathon watched your HL1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift playthroughs in the past few days (while doing other things, of course!), and I have to say that you're a really great and entertaining LPer! I'm amazed at how you've played through all these games so quickly, it's always good to have lots of content to watch, so keep up the amazing work!
but before that, XEN CHAPTER!! they promised to make xen some thing incredible. and as i understand they are putting up a patch support so they can patch some of the bugs.
I already mentioned this at your last Blue Shift video but the reason the security guard mentions Barney is because Barney and Gordon are friends, lorewise that is.
jake h There is a HD re-creation going on for both Blue Shift and Opposing force, Blue Shift = Guard Duty. Opposing Force = Operation: Black Mesa, look em' both up.
about what the guard said about the ponytail..... in the first half life game if you used hax to go into third person, gordon's head glitched so it looked like he had a ponytail.
I love the fact that they made sure the music keeps playing or at least plays again after loading screens.
anarchoatheist They change it too. It's 3 different tracks, according to the OST.
Three different tracks, one for each map, but they are deliberately contiguous so that they feel like one song. Brilliant, eh?
Thanks man. That's the ultimate compliment. I only started uploading videos about 7-8 weeks ago.
It's funny how im watching this in 2014 and this is still mindboggleing.
Uhhh...why? It's only 3 years old, not that old.
really nigga
+Misfit 1 Actual O'RLY?
2017 :)
+Baba Booey
Nice attention troll
This game looks and feels absolutely amazing. Kudos to Crowbar Collective they nailed every single detail of the original. Mad nostalgia. :)
Still can't get over how gorgeous this game is.
7:55 After you made a big deal of catching sight of the G-Man, I was tickled pink by the way you nearly missed him because you were busy reading the cover of a book on the ground.
“Tickled pink” is a phrase I gotta use more in my conversations.
If you enjoyed this, please share it with your friends :)
For sure man, you HAVE to play this game. It's amazing!

idk how long you have had your channel, but you deserve a lot more credit then you have. great commentary.

The Decathalon part was indeed a part of the original Half-Life, complete with "More lives than your own may depend on your fitness" speech.
I mention that in an upcoming video :)
I don't know if you've already got a comment on this but the decathlon line was already in the original Half-life ;) Oh and great job mate. I find your LP's very entertaining (at least the Valve ones since they are the only ones I've seen for now) :)
This is the kind of commentary I appreciate. Alright, I'm in. Subbed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks a lot! Glad you're liking it!

That first security guard actually DOES have more to say. I'm not sure why he gave you the silent treatment.
more than just money, they deserve to be hired as a high-position developers by Valve. Imagine this kind of talent being put to use into FINALLY MAKING BLOODY EPISODE 3.
Glad I found you, truly a you tuber of taste. No hide nor hair of a slender play through :)

Completely remade using the HL2 engine. Built from the ground up. Lots of little difference from the first one.
Finally, somebody who shuts up at the right moment, admires the scenery and gets full-on immersed. I humbly thank you.
Regarding that. First off, love your content. Love your style. I will do my very best when it comes to geting your name out there, because you are so talented. You have the right gear, quality, everything. PS: I subbed.
9:39 Did you catch the guard's comment here? He said, "Say hello to Dr. Cross for me." This is a reference to Half-Life: Decay.
Thanks poopchute (never thought I'd be saying that in a sentence). I'm uploading Half Life 2 right now, then I will be doing both episodes and lost cost. Then portal.

Actually that bit about the decathalon and your fitness being important is lifted nearly word for word from the original.
Sorry I'm such a nitpicker.
Please please please do a streaming of this game. It's been fully released just yesterday. Thumbs up if you guys agree
Christopher, hello! Black Mesa full Version is out and includes Xen! Hope you finish this lets play.
You cut the ponytail is a reference to how on the original model of Gordon freeman there was a ponytail, which valve took out
You should have like millions of Views man !

Almost. They did change one word: "secure access transmission" became "secure broadcast transmission". Not sure why. But other than that, it's the same words.
Yea that's a good catch. Someone else pointed that out as well. I just didn't remember it.
Right on!
Thanks so much! That's really nice to hear :) I'm having a great time with this RUclips thing so far :) How did you find the channel?
yea, i know, I think I RUclips trimmed it now lol
Yes... I am also already waiting for the Xen Chapter... and I do hope that this chapter is not just about platforming... good to know that they will make it even better...
Pretty impactful
Awesome, this is the perfect mix between commentary and playthrough :)
It's a complete remake of the first half-life. Not just adding textures. Building everything from the ground up.
Dr Gina Cross is one of the playable characters in Half life decay and the security guard who complained about gordon cutting off his poney tail said "say hi to dr cross for me"/
Keep on it. Worth it!
Haha the pony tail. I remember playing opposing force and seeing his ponytail and thinking wtf since when did he have a pony tail.
This looks FANTASTIC!! Wish I could play... don't have a Windows operating system capable of handling it though. I'm a recent convert to Half-Life/Portal and to Valve in general. I'm not sure if I should be scared or rarified of the similarities of me and you.
I'm so happy you saw Gman!
I think I amy have actually shed a tear or two.
I can't picture Gordon with a pony tail. lol
You missed the scientists banging on the door in the bit where there's radioactive waste leaking from that tank!
Yea steam integration will be a nice touch!
I just marathon watched your HL1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift playthroughs in the past few days (while doing other things, of course!), and I have to say that you're a really great and entertaining LPer!
I'm amazed at how you've played through all these games so quickly, it's always good to have lots of content to watch, so keep up the amazing work!
there are teams working on it as we speak. so you're wish will soon be granted :D
i cant belive this mod is free, it makes me cry manly tears of joy.
but before that, XEN CHAPTER!! they promised to make xen some thing incredible. and as i understand they are putting up a patch support so they can patch some of the bugs.
I already mentioned this at your last Blue Shift video but the reason the security guard mentions Barney is because Barney and Gordon are friends, lorewise that is.
Thanks links!
There also is this thing where there's a model in the Blue Shift high quality model pack thing where Gordon has a pony tail.
You and me both!
Chell and Morgan in one game, in the fight with the aliens that glados is ruling. who's with me?
If by Morgan you mean Gordon 😋 But I mean really... Morgan Freeman would also be awesome! 😂
Great job, I love your videos! KEEP 'EM COMING!
Actually no. I played BOTH recently to check that and they ARE the same. It's an common misconception.
I played this mod when it came out when I was 14, and its been a whole decade got dang i am old
You really need to get back to this. You have to play the Defintive editon. it's pretty mindblowing
man, you are awesome, you recorded the last seconds
Thanks! How'd you find the channel?
This is awesome. I sadly am not possible to play Black Mesa until i get a new computer. But i watch with JOY!
you and me both brother.
"You Cut The Pony Tail" is a reference to the Ivan the Spacebiker model. (that's what Gordon initially looked like, you can Google it :) )
They definitely DESERVE money for this!
I have to admit, that I didn't play it back then either. I was into PC gaming, but not into shooting games
nice! good catch cuz I wasn't sure what that was about.
i have a special love for the half life sieres and this game has the perfect music and uuuugggghhhhh feeeeeellllsssss
This is amazing. I wonder if they will do a Blue Shift source and Opposing Force source.
if they do ill be the happist person alive
jake h There is a HD re-creation going on for both Blue Shift and Opposing force, Blue Shift = Guard Duty. Opposing Force = Operation: Black Mesa, look em' both up.
Carson DeLano
thanks for the info man
I hope they release half life 3 in the next 2 years
TheIrishGamer303 Unless Gabe Newell learns to count to 3 we will expect it.
about what the guard said about the ponytail..... in the first half life game if you used hax to go into third person, gordon's head glitched so it looked like he had a ponytail.
Did you run the installer after you extracted the ZIP file?
Doing work Mr. Odd!

6:12 actually there is mention in the orgional of the decathalon. its just hard to hear. so far this redo is 1:1
It's also used for the tutorial
Did you get it figured out?
9:30
The original Gordon model in Half-Life, most visible in the PS2 version, had a pony-tail!
Monorail Simulator 2012
Hopefully an updated version of opposing forces and blue shift are made as well
1:16, thats where blue shift starts
Hmm, it's been so long since 2012 and Xen just released, I wonder if he'll ever get around to playing it, here's hoping...
Shoutout to Joel Nielsen for this amazing soundtrack.
