This has been one of my favourite pieces of music for several decades, since I drove a bunch of electrical engineers insane, searching for the cause of a rattle on my brand new radiogram that was triggered by the horn solos on my Mozart LP (it was that long ago). They and I played the thing on loop for hours. They never fixed the rattle.
This recording, however, is a revelation. I now have much better equipment, and hearing it played by superb musicians, on orginal instruments, with a Mozart-sized band, is sheer delight. The clarity is jaw-dropping, and I'm hearing lots of little Mozart chuckles that a modern orchestra loses. Congratulatins to all involved. That includes the sound engineer, who has masterfully captured every nuance.

Of all the instruments that challenge a record pick-up, the French horn is the most difficult to reproduce.

    Astonishing recording.
Mozart would be impressed to hear such a beautiful performance of his last horn concerto.
The orchestra's sound is purely what Mozart had in his mind when he composed this concerto. The horn soloist makes the music come to your heart with a wonderful warm sound, delicate phrasing and embellishing ornaments.
    Thank you for this recording.

If M. had the later ‘valve-horn’ at his disposal in the 1780s-just think what effects he could have created just by listening to what he achiev’d when writing for a simple Waldhorn with only a few holes and the ingenuity of ‘hand-modulation into the bell’ by the performers to create chromatic effects - I do not believe he had more than 17 or 18 notes that could be play’d in tune - and horns in his day all requir’d the cumbersome task of ‘changing crooks’ (as with late-eighteenth century Trombe/trumpets) between movements in new keys - but Sr Ruiz shews how these limitations of the 18th century Waldhorn can be overcome with style & great musical sensitivity - !! bravo, Senor !!
