Really useful video ! Nice and short and each step was well explained but simple too & straight to the point ! Cant wait to tackle some of the scratches on my car now you've given me so much more confidence so thanks so much, love it !
Hi and thanks for making this video. I have a question regarding the initial application of color paint. How long is the very first application of paint allowed to cure before the first wet sanding? Thanks again!!
Yes, I've done panels on the car. Of course flat panels are easier but either way will work. You may need a few more applications of clear to make sure the scratch is completely filled
Ya absolutely. It's not as intense as having to use spray to fix it which also doesn't require removing whatever panel, but makes it easier rather then having to mask up every surrounding area then hope you can blend it in right.
I bought a genuine mazda touch up paint (45P sonic silver metallic). It looks ok but stands out when I fill in a chip or scratch. I wet sand it with 2500 and then it turns to solid gray (no sign of metallic). I add a clear coat and it still just looks solid gray. I polish it with compound and the sanding scratches are gone, the scratch feels smooth to the touch but it's still a dark gray with no metallic. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Inside your driver's side door there should be a paint color code for your car. It is probably on the same sticker where your recommended tire pressures are printed. Use that color code along with your car's make, year, and model when you are looking for paint.
I try to keep the paint just in the scratch. That way the new paint won't be noticed if it isn't a perfect match. if you're sanding through the spray coat before filling with clear though, it should work fine.
i’m trying to fix a scratch on a white car and when i sanded it the sandpaper left gray marks. it’s automotive sandpaper but i don’t know if i bought the wrong brand or if i didn’t let the paint dry long enough. any idea?
Yeah, I think you're right. It sounds like the paint wasn't dry enough. Also, the sand paper should say "wet or dry" so you can use it with plenty of water without problems.
I let it set about 30 minutes between clear coats then 4 hours before sanding smooth. Just water for soaking the sandpaper but yeah, my bucket may have still been a little soapy
So u use a clear coat for deep scratches from Dupicolors yet stay away from colors for best results. Equally important $17 dollars and sand it down and rubber compound ....
How can I use this overall method with medium sized chip rocks about the size of a pencil eraser but deep and rusted. I dislke the way people are fixing them with chip fix kits when they are that deep because its nowhere near level, and like you commented below, using bondo or any filler requires that you sand well into the paint around it causing you to use spray paint to paint a much larger area so risk becomes larger. What would you suggest for deep chips that went through the primer to metal? Can I just use multiple coats of paint?
I don't like to use bondo to fill scratches unless I plan to repaint the whole panel. If you level the scratch with bondo, there's a good chance you'll cut into it when sanding. That's why I put down a thin layer of paint and fill with clear.
I'm using the Duplicolor Scratch Fix All-in-1. Not endorsing or selling, just found that it works best for me. Good luck with your repairs!
I've watched ENDLESS tutorial videos on filling scratches with the touchup paint. THANK YOU for the concise & to the point video.
final shot showing it all buffed out and installed on the car would make this video a 10

3:34 ROFL!! "just a little dab"
Great clear concise instructions!
Thanks, very clearly understood and the results seem very good too.

Has anyone tried the tip for removing rust? Is it sturdy enough for that or should I use something else?
I will defo try this with some paint chips I have. Would you recommend wet sanding a t-cut magic pen touch up after application?
That’s the story of my life, “Pretend that didn’t happen.”
3:40 Where is the pad from you connect to the drill from?
Harbor Freight. They come with foam and fleece bonnets for $3
Thanks for the video, I guess this procedure can be done without taking off the panel from car?

What is the creamy compound you used at the end to polish please?

What is yellow buffer number or name.
How long do you polish for? I’m at the polish step, but I cant get that matte look to go away now😩
It shouldn't take long. What type polishing compound are you using? Did you use rubbing compound or a high grit wet sand paper first?
I believe I didn’t use a compound😢 I think this is where I messed up. I went straight to Meguairs Scratch X Polish after using 3000 wet sand paper
I got the scratch out, but now I have the sanding scratches that I cant figure out how to get rid of
how did you find what exact color you used for your car, did you get just a black color, so if i got a gray car, just get a gray color??

Great video and very helpful!
What should you use to clean out the scratch before trying to paint? Alcohol, soap and water??
After scratching out any rust, alcohol works well. Good luck!
ok, looks great.
Hi! may i know all the product you use coz i didnt see it on your description below.. much appreciated .. thank you 😊
Thanks for pointing that out! I just pinned the product
I did it with 2000-3000 grit , why i see the primer??
Can i also use spray paint? Instead of brush paint..?

How long did you let the paint sit? And was it just water you let the sandpaper sit in? it looks soapy
I let it set about 30 minutes between clear coats then 4 hours before sanding smooth. Just water for soaking the sandpaper but yeah, my bucket may have still been a little soapy
good results
Perfect. And easy too.
thanks
What type of buffing machine is that?
It's just a polishing attachment on a cordless drill.
You definitely get a sun thanks brotha
Saved me $2700!
I got turtle rubber compound and can polish the sanding off great will buy a clear coat kit for my girlfriend.
So u use a clear coat for deep scratches from Dupicolors yet stay away from colors for best results. Equally important $17 dollars and sand it down and rubber compound ....
Don’t use finger tips to sand!
Good point! Thanks

Yes sand the scratch then just apply the paint directly and layer it up. Works great.
I guess you did 2 coats and 3 if needed on deep scratches wow ...
Should I use bondo?
I don't like to use bondo to fill scratches unless I plan to repaint the whole panel. If you level the scratch with bondo, there's a good chance you'll cut into it when sanding. That's why I put down a thin layer of paint and fill with clear.

Would 600 grit work?
I think it would be more likely to cut through your clear coat and you'd still need to use finer grits to get rid of scratches from the 600 grit.
Brooo chill w the compound😂😂 put 3 dabs on the pad and dab it around saves u a lot more product and is more professional that way
😂😂
nobodies doing this to their car lol. sand paper? Jesus christ
Lol? It's a usual technique 🤷🏻🤣
