I like all of them, but of course the Aztech is the most adorable card due to its ICS wavetable.

Nice video. The samples on the Aztech wavetable actually sound pretty good for Theme Hospital! But maybe not so much for Doom...

Thank you! Yes, the guitar is pretty questionable.

I really enjoyed the Crystal sound chip in my ThinkPad 380ED from 1997. :)

Yes, it is an excellent chip! It has a very good DAC (Crystal are known as the maker of high-end DACs) and sounds very clean. The Orpheus sound card is based on the same Crystal chip, and for a good reason.

Ah. I knew it. I remember when I was 15 years old. I had a summer job and I saved up money to buy newly released Pentium 3 550mhz PC. Also bought a 25GB hard drive priced about $200-$300 and a soundblaster audio card priced about $250.
The soundblaster card was interesting and did have an IR wireless remote for music and movie controls. But had a lot of useless features such as all the weird effects like Underwater, Hall, Ballroom, .. And the CD audio quality didn't seem all that good. I was better off playing music from the radio using a reciever, but better playing from the CD accessory of the reciever. I wasn't all happy with the audio quality of the soundblaster card.

If it had a wireless remote, then it was probably an SB Live!, which is actually quite a decent sound card. But I agree that it does not sound good using default settings, you really need to tweak the hell out of it to get decent sound quality.

The Aztech surprises me with its midi compatibility and sound. The only downside on the midi of that card, would be the vibrato/tremolo/bending, that sounds like it’s shifting too slowly over several notes. Other than that, they all sound really great.
I think I would go for the Aztech. :)

Epic russian accent :) But video is quite interesting. Now using ES688F (Edison Gold 16) on my retroPC, works fine, but has some hanging MIDI-notes when running some games in DOS.
