I was using the m-audio 2496 in a unbuntu linux pc which worked very well with jack audio. There are linux versions of bitwig, renoise, reaper plus other free open source software. PCI audio cards will have another life in linux.

I made so much music with my 1212m! Now that I know I can do a work-around, I'm going to build a mini pc, fill it with my sound library and get an old-fashioned tracker running to make some Jungle!

The backing music is very good and fitting for the era of sound cards. EMU 1820M running here with Win 11. Solid drivers and low latency. Im runnijg mine with a custom linear PSU. To my ears it sounds better than my FF800. Thank you for this video.

Very interesting video, thanks for putting this together. I have just installed a M-Audio 192 as a replacement of the 2496 and heard a massive improvement. I wouldn't say that the 2496 was average though, as is was already far better than an integrated soundchip, and it has made sound my PC like a good CD Player. Since these cards are affordable now, I'm looking forward try the other cards you are mentionning.

Why only the small M-audiocards what about the Delta series like the 44, 66 the Delta 1010 lt and the Delta 1010. I still use the Delta 1010 got three of them and one spare unit without the Pci card. I use them with Logic 9 in hackintoshes and at the moment I try to make them work with a Pcie to Pci risercard on modern computers. I do not use midi or softamps, I want the real stuff so it´s a mixer, mics, preamps, small amps and real instruments.

Apologies that's all the cards i had at the time, the other M-Audio cards you mentioned are excellent cards as well, i never owned those ones but i remember reading about the 1010's everywhere back in the day. These early M-Audio cards should be written into the history books because they pretty much were an affordable music studio in a sound card but it was the starting point for so many of us for professional audio production later.

😂i love the 1212m I’m running it my pc I didn’t know it was 24 bit love the 192 kHz. If I’m not mistaken I seen something about the option for 328 or something like that but I never tried it. The funny thing is, as I’m switching over to mac. All the new interfaces look like downgrades

I bought a PCIe to PCI Adapter/Converter to use my Roland RBUS (RPC-1) and the recording pgm Logic 4.7.1 in this Dell 808 Desktop which has only PCIe slots. I am hoping it will work with the Logic 4.7.1 as it is proprietary - if you know of any workarounds please let me inow and Thanks~!

I'm not familiar with that computer, i assume its a newer computer if it has no pci slots...its a bit hit and miss with those adapters there are some cheap ones about and the voltages can differ so so something like the startech adapter looks like it supports the 3.3v and 5v and read reviews from some RME users their old gear worked perfectly with that particular adapter.i see you running an old version of logic so i guess an old os like win xp or something like that will be installed.I see the roland supports xp drivers as well.

Sorry, way late to this forum, and I generally don't participate in forums in general..
However, I have to say that I've had zero problems when running my old Delta 1010 (breakout box version) on Windows 10. Works great, but you don't get the M-Audio control panel in the task bar.
Here are some tips to get the old beast working on Windows 10.. and I'll include a few other tips after.
Download the Delta 6.0.8 drivers (I believe they are Windows 7 drivers.. It's been a while).
      www.m-audio.com/support/download ... elta-6.0.8
In Windows 10, extract the files to a location of your choosing.
      Right click on Delta_6_0_8.exe file.
      Select Properties
Click the check box in Compatibility Mode for "Run this program in compatibility mode for and select "Windows 7" from the drop down. Click Apply, then Ok.
Next, Right click on the Delta_6_0_8.exe file and select "Run as Administrator".
Follow the instructions. You may need to have a reboot to get the device up and running.
If this forum allowed pics, I'd show a few to ease the process along.
Please note that I haven't performed this operation since Windows 10 came out, so I may be mistaken. If this doesn't work, try running in Compatibility for Windows 8 (eeew, I know).
I'm a fan of this audio setup. I did my first awesome professional sounding recordings on it, so I hope those of you who still have the old machines with PCI can make use of this info.
Good luck. I might check in to see if anyone managed to make use of it. BTW, the midi works fine as well.
It's also recognized in both Reaper and SoundForge Pro 11, with full ASIO support.
      Enjoy!

How did you get the drivers to work on Windows 10? I had my 1616m working for the past 4 years. The latest firmware update from my computer manufacturer broke my drivers for some reason. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still only getting one wave in and one adat in. The dock is all grayed out in the patchmix program. I also get a message saying I don’t have enough hardware when I try to open previous saved sessions that were in 44.1 and had dock channels used. Any idea of how I can get this working immediately?

good detected on my new hardware

So the card is recognized and showing signal through the control panel, but just nothing out of speakers....it sounds like a routing issue then, just double check the input and outputs and config on the panel, from memory there are also mute buttons which should not be enabled...disable any other sound devices like internal if you haven;t already. What kurzweil speakers are they? remember the julia has balanced and unbalanced connections which can be swapped, so you could try that additionally to match the speakers...you should still get some sound though regardless but something else to try.

Is it possible it could be conflicting with another card if there is any...remove your other cards if any and test it i would try this first...linux pc's may have an issue with these cards hot and miss according to a few user reviews they couldn't get it to recognize their cards...when they tested the card in windows pc it worked though

A workstation board I just bought has a PCI slot, and I'm wondering if there's anything worthwhile I can do with it. I don't actually do any audio production, so I don't actually need a pro sound card, but are there any PCI sound cards that aren't super expensive that still properly support Windows 11?
By properly, I mean things like not having to disable Virtualization-Based Security.

    • @memoryflash3687
      @memoryflash3687  5 месяцев назад

they may or may not properly support it, i can't say for sure on windows 11 because most of the old pci cards will work on vista and win 7 with official drivers up until those OS but i was running old M-Audio cards on win 10 no issues but they were a bit flaky with the occasional bsod.that being said i would probably look at the ESI juli@ card with official windows 11 drivers or even some of the other ESI cards like say the maya 44 they have official support for win 10 so that would be your best bet and usually cheaper than the juli@ cards.Other than that i can't say what other cards are supported with win 11 properly apart from other high end stuff if i recall the lynx audio stuff has current support as well but pricey.

I had 1616M, recaped all the big capacitors to decent Rubycon capacitors(only Mouser, Digikey etc., ebay aliexpress are fake caps) and it sounded so good. Very low jitter and proper clean sound.
Right now i have 1820M, also some mods like capacitors, output caps on one output bridged, the sound skyrocketed after capacitors, not even funny. I had those Focusrite 2i2 and some other like UM22 and Gina but this is no joke and i'll get another for backup. Recapping is a must to high class caps.
      In short, get another!
