It's painfully obvious that it's a fraternal twin. It's not a new design, anybody can see that. It's a subtle shape change at best. Heck, even the dial is the same. They could have gone square (unique design), new square movement, and people would have gone bananas. I know the Code 11:59 took a couple years to get it's footing, but outside of the watch world (and now even within) it's taken off because it's accessible (or at least it was). This is just lazy, plain and simple. The time and effort put into this could have been used to increase production, but this was just a waste. I really think they could have come up with a generational piece, but instead we get another Nautilus.

I think the Cubitus makes complete sense when you consider the target demographic Patek are aiming for. This was was designed for a new younger generation of watch buyers. These people have only known Apple Watches and their 45mm squared screen. This watch has the shape and dimensions that they are used to. Patek dealers have been told to prioritise young first time Patek buyers with this range. It was never for the regular Patek crowd. This was about luring a digital generation back to analogue and ensuring long term profitablity for Patek. The fact that their first new line in 25 years is entry level tells you who they are meant for.

He doesn't care what anyone thinks, said it out loud, and the collection sold out immediately so no one can buy it even if they wanted to. Big deal. Everyone on the internet has an opinion about something they've never seen or experiences in real life. I don't mind the watch personally, the only pragmatic issue I would have is that for me personally it's too big (a Monaco is 39mm I think and already too big, this Patek is a full 5mm larger which is a lot), I would prefer it smaller, say 36mm, but even then it's a purely hypothetical conversation as it's not my price point. It's a bold statement watch and they will evolve it over time I am sure into something more neutral.

He is right, the uglier the watch, the rarer it is in the future, the more this watch will be flipped.

Patek has a long history of being lazy. When Lange was developing the movement for the Datograph, Patek was buying Lemania calibers and stuffing them into their watches. When Patek replaced the 3919 (or the 5019) with the much larger 5119, they used the same movement. Likewise, with the Square Nautilus, they used an old round movement. Stern is a nepo baby who was never in touch with reality - Patek obviously consulted with Gerald Genta because Genta designed the Nautilus - Thierry’s just squared it off. I’m happy with my JLC watches, the Reverso and the MUT34, both of which costs less combined a single watch Patek currently sells. I owned a 3119J and thought the undersized crown was annoying - the 3919 is a manual wind watch and I had to endure that crown. I wear a manual-wind watch ever day, usually the Reverso and the crown is perfect. It’s not too big, either. The Cubitus is too large and it looks like something a blockhead would wear.

I don’t mind the look of the green one. It’s not great but it’s not terrible either. Cubitus is the Latin medical name for the largest bone in your forearm. An unsurprising point of view from such a ceo. Covid made them feel like a golden god. May as well be head of LVMH. I prefer a larger watch. The tiny watch trend is not for me.

Cartier sales are up. Patek is losing their class. It’s moving down to Invicta level. Cubitus a. New form of VD.

I mean hes right in my case; I have never had a patek and never will most likely. I dont hate but I dont think its a meaningful release. its fine as a standalone watch but as a atek, its not the best release lets say.

Frankly speaking who cares , there are tons of great mainstream and independent brands that should be able to cover the need for a real elegant square shape watch , this Stern is a dum.

He doesn't sound tired or stressed. He sounds intelligent and confident. The market is not in a crisis. The market is in a correction, from the biggest bubble in its history. He knows this.
    Onward and upward, Patek.
