"...The Way of White Corona is a lost Way of White miracle. A white discus which slices through foes and is so shit that's no wonder people forgot about it..." I had to double take and rewind to video to make sure I wasn't hearing it wrong LOLOL. STOP USING YOUR CALM VOICE FOR SUCH THINGS!!!
The way I understood the lore the first time I read it was that "Aria", the white haired girl is from the first cycle and probably lived during Gwyn's time. The paintings aren't named after the artist, but for who they were painted for. The painter, Aria, is immortal because she lives inside the painting, resetting it's world every time the rot kicks in and painting a new one from the ashes of the burnt painting, constantly painting over it, that's why there are still parts in Ariandel from Ariamis. The painting of Ariandel doesn't mean "the painting that belongs to Ariandel" but "the painting of Ariandel as a person", like saying "The photo of Trump". Aria is the mother of the Forlorn because she's been painting forlorn people, giving them a home for themselves. So the real question then is, who is Ariamis? If I'm right, the painting of Ariamis wasn't painted *by* Ariamis for Priscilla, but *FOR* Ariamis by Aria. Priscilla was just locked there because it was a convenient place to hide her. So then, who was the original painting for? Is Ariamis then the First of the Forlorn? But hey, that's just a theory A SOULS THEORY
IIRC, Priscilla specifically says that Ariamis is the one who created the painted world - although I suppose one could grasp at straws and say she either doesn't know or isn't being literal. More likely Aria is a descendant of Priscilla or something similar with the key line being "ken to fire" which I took as "related to Gwyn."
I swear you make these games about twice as enjoyable as I could ever find them on my own. A necessary companion piece to get all that goodness out. Good on ya, brah.
I could’ve made Havel’s ring with the stray demon soul but I consumed it like a total dickhead and now I can’t rock the outfits I want without fat-rolling.
The way i see Gael's boss is it's like an after story. The "and then" after killing cinder Ashen One: "And that's how I killed the soul of cinder....then I got bored and-"
"A white discus which slices through foes and that is so shit, it's no wonder people forgot about it." From Software really should replace the in-game description with that. It's so much more accurate.
Just wanted to say, I really love these dlc videos. Having these "shorter" lore videos, but in relatively quick succession was a good idea and I'm liking the mix between telling a story and having a more casual discussion while giving the in-game sources you used to put it all together.
I'm stunned Rosaria who's referred to as a mother and LIVES IN THE CATHEDRAL OF THE DEEP wasn't in the running as the goddess mentioned. I like your theories, Vatti, but I honestly can't see any of the options you suggested being more likely than Rosaria.
Lore of Vaati: Some say Vaati was once from a different world and was part of a short insignificant society known as the Minish. From a young age all he really cared for was how the world worked and it's history. He eventually joined as an apprentice to an old Wizard. One day he stole one of the wizard's artifacts and used it to transform into a human-like creature known as an 'Australian' (heheh..jk). He found new powers in this form and used it to terrorised the world as he scoured it for secrets. He believed a Force of true Light could give them the knowledge of the universe he desired. He was deafeated by a supposed 'chosen one' and was sealed away. He returned due to a deal he struck with a demon and due to his ressurection , he was slightly maddened and forgot his purpose only choosing to be cruel or destructive. He was slain later on yet again. The Gods of this land were in awe of this Australian and feared his power , and there was the fact they couldn't have a recurring villain that wasn't Ganondorf , so they sealed him in a strange dying world , with very little power of his own. To return home he must adventure with another 'Chosen One' who he must recite the lore and stories of the land to , only to be promptly ignored by both of his companions. And that is the story of VaatiVidya
that actually never accrued to me but that makes a lot of since seeing as how shes never heard from again and that they locked Aria away. but why? wouldn't it just be easier to tell a little girl a lie that they will believe? unless shes actually older than she appears. but that also raises some questions. like if she is precilla then why doesn't she look more like herself from the first game or wheres her scythe but that can all be summed up to lore, developers choices or simply that they didn't want a repeat of dark souls 1 (ironically).
Korall Skyrin To the look: I think she quite looks like a young version, minus the tail (but may be so little, can't be seen). That's why Vaati sees the possibilty of her being offspring. And for the same reason I can imagine, she just grows in a special way and hence, she has the knowledge and paints, she is locked away by an ash she can't stand a change propably (yet). Her scythe may be lost or useless. Who knows if she still possess the lifehunt power than. ---orrr Frieda claimed the scythe as the one she is using (lifehunt is inherent in priscillas soul, so)
Yo Man. Reactivated my account just say that I appreciate your videos. I have never even played darksouls/bloodborne, but your expositional narratives have unleashed the beauty of these episodic stories. I really appreciate what you do. It is an art that should be appreciated like a fine painting. You really do something analytical and complex that gets refined into an awesome and condensed format. One day when I have money I'd love to throw some at you. You legitimately make me appreciate a story I'd never be exposed to lest your intervention. I hope you get enough income to support yourself, because your passion is worthy of notice; your art isn't a blank portrait with an elusive meaning, it's a deep investigation, knotted with expositional detail, and woven into a beautifully choreographed video. Thanks dude.
What you you mean not sequential DLCs? DS2's DLC were all related to each other, talking the story one step further each time. And Old Hunter DLC were originally suppose to be two DLCs and it tells a single story.
DS2's DLCs were not sequential. Each story had related elements, but none of them began before or after another. None of them had plot elements that only made sense if you played them in a specific order. The only story that expanded through every dlc was the one told by King Vendrick in his memory, but the order you completed each dlc in didn't matter. If the Old Hunters was supposed to two DLCs then one of the reasons why it was compressed in to one might be because they don't do sequential story telling for DLCs. Even if not, it is no proof of sequential DLCs regardless.
***** They also reference DS2 in Eleonora item, Tsorigs ring is from Eleum Loyce which Irithyll may actually be, you find Vendricks shield which also talks about him, Dragon Rider Bow references DS2, DS3 takes DS2 method of sitting in thrones to link the fire, the women in Profaned Capital are the same beings as Nashandra, there's a picture of Nashandra in Irithyll which hints even more to Irithyll being Eleum Loyce and a lot of other stuff. Where are people getting that idea?
I'd love to see some Demon's Souls throwbacks in the next DLC. I kind of want another tragic boss, like Maiden Astraea. Someone you don't really want to kill, but is necessary.
I think you can certainly make the argument that Velka is a "mother for the forlorn." The Sable Church, which could also be known as the Church of Velka, attracts Hollows on the brink of eternal madness and offers them salvation and hope. Is there a greater mercy than that?
I thought it was pretty clear that the Dark Soul of Man that Gael was searching for was The Ashen One, brought into the painting like a pigment and needed so that the painting won't rot forever.
Well i think we will be going to Londor, where probably Gael has gone to look for this Dark Soul of man. Maybe it's related to the Lord of Hollows ending, maybe we will even see some close relation to Kaathe there...
I’m currently still crying over this, years have gone by for me.. nothing compared to Gael and now it all makes sense I’d give anything for a future I believe in. We all would it’s just a matter of time before we’d be Gael in our own world hopping and fighting for a future we believe in. Cold but gentle..
I'm thinking the "Goddess" might be Priscilla. She's certainly one of the more powerful beings in the painted world(s) and poster girl for the forlorn, and there's no way Freide would just coincidentally resemble her in both appearance and combat abilities unless she was trying to invoke her image. Finally, remember the statue at the end? What if it's not quite so literal like with the Anor Londo statues of the gods? A figure that's half-snake, and half-woman. What if that was the way the Corvians depicted half-dragon Priscilla? Not all depictions of historical figures and deities are accurate, and over time, our image of something tends to distort into something grander, or more monstrous; especially when the source has been lost.

I love when I get into a duel and the other person heals but the moment I heal the whole fight club attacks me.
I did not see the subtle white discus joke coming, actually had to hear it again lol great content and great commentary alongside the beautiful voice you have
I don't even play the Dark Souls 3 anymore, nor have I played the DLC, but I still always eagerly await the next lore video. These are absolutely amazing! Keep up the great work Vaati!
2:25 - That statue, or a younger version of it, lines the hallway leading to the Duke's Archives in the first game, and in the Lost Bastille in the second game. The younger version of the statue is of a maiden offering fire. The older version, which also appears in the third game Grand Archives, has her right arm crossed over her chest, indicating defensiveness. I've taken to thinking of her as the First Scholar, maybe from Izalith. I think it's safe to assume that Friede had the heads removed. Seath's weird obsession in the first game might track with the statues being in perfect condition in the first game, the crumbling one we find in the second game is next to a statue of Aldia (it appears all over in his Keep) indicating that he was content to let the statue crumble of its own accord, and the Lothric scholars took a 'sweep it under the rug' approach. Or on top of a bookshelf in the attic, as it were.
After you kill Friede and Father Ariandel, remember the little statue at the end of the room in the wall? It had a snake tail, which could represent Aria's mother because Aria herself had some scales on her body. It could also hint towards the final DLC. I think the final DLC will be about the Dark Soul of Man and Gale even comes back. The boss could end up being Aria's mother.
Goddammit Vaati, I have 2 major assignments due tomorrow, this is no time to be posting high-quality videos that I will inevitably drop everything to watch
I think Villhelm is voiced by a guy who also does some of the soldier's voices for the Witcher 3 NPC's. It might not make much sense :D, but it's a real gruffy, low toned voice. I think the people who've played it will now what i mean.
Hey vaati I'm a new souls youtuber currently working on a walk through/item guide for dark souls 3 I love your lore videos and kinda gave you a shoutout in my first video (total accident) just thanks for being such a big influence on me I've always loved dark souls but your lore videos have given me a new love for the series that I would've never had without all the lore you put out just keep it up I hope one day I'll actually be able to affect people in the same way your lore videos have affected me and bring more players into the dark souls community
4:43 I heard that and I legit had to listen to it again, I couldn't tell if he was saying what I thought he said because he sounded so deadpan serious xD
I have to ponder where the actual f*** Aldia is. Last we saw him he became an immortal "*thing*" and haven't heard from him since, despite him most likely taking great interest in the events of DS3 and the dlc.
Throwaway1234 Shield of want, forbidden fun, faraam armor... there are a few things randomly from DS2. It just doesn't make sense that Aldia has up and vanished, whereas you *can* make DS2 work in the story.
Well, if you follow that path fully, you do kinda kill him...well not really kill, but I think that chosen undead got a new voice in their head. I'd be more concerned with what the primordial serpents are doin.
I'm talking about MEANINGFUL references. like when Yuria mentions Kaathe when killed - that's meaningful. or when you fight the The Nameless King - this is huge. item descriptions? weapons and armor sets? don't be ridiculous. this stuff may as well have been added as an afterthought way of pandering to the audience.
God, i literally just beat Gael tonight for the first time and completed the game. This shit was uploaded almost 4 fucking years ago. Ive been listening to and reading this lore from Vaati and others before and during my playthrough of these games, and i always just think its really striking how different reading/hearing/analyzing about the game and lore is so intriguing and inviting, interesting the say the least and SOOO deep, it goes so deep..it always makes me wanna play, right? But you're ingame feel is a stark contrast....while youre walking through its just..a brutal, fucking, beatdown, cold and harsh, defeating, and as Vaati said so succinctly one time - Like it doesn't want to be tamed or learned about.
I find it somewhat interesting that despite whichever ending we get in the end, we're not really the carriers of the dark soul of men, even though we're called the dark lord countless of times. Who actuality is the dark lord?
The dark lord would most likely be the furtive Pygmy/manus being the keeper of the dark soul we have scraps of it gifted by the furtive Pygmy and (if you watch vaatis other videos) probably the original chosen undead under the influence of kaathe and Londor
Why not Guinevere? She's the mother of Priscilla, who is very forlorn and the caretaker and protector of the first Painted World. Guinevere also made the Divine Blessing item, a healing water which "undoes irregularities." Couldn't the Rot be seen as an irregularity? Or the state of those inside the Painted World? Wouldn't it be pretty safe to say that if Gael is so old he might remember Guinevere and hope that she would look after the worlds based off her daughter's beloved home?
Hi Vaati, I wish to thanks you for alowing ERA Games to translate your videos, it helped alot the brazillian community to understand the Lore, and your theorys. Love your work :D
Good video, as usual. The only thing I really question (and it's a rather small nitpick) is the chosen name of the "White Haired Girl". Aria sounds more like the base name that the other names stem from, rather than the name of a descendant: ARIAndel, ARIAmis. I would expect someone named Aria to be the first of the painters, not the latest one to appear. Wouldn't it make more sense to call the girl Ariana? Just my own opinion, anyway.
If the fire fades would people be able to paint flame into the paintings and live there? I guess my real question is, how much are the paintings like the linking books of Myst.
That is a good question. From what I remember of myst, I don't think they're very similar. I need to brush up on my myst lore. I can't remember the limitation on linking books very well
i think the existence of the painted world and its inhabitants may be directly linked to the physical manifestation of the painting itself in the real world. so if the fire fading means that the painting (ds1) or the scrap of painting (ds3) is destroyed then no to your first question. i could be wrong but i feel like the existence of the painted world hinges on the existence of the real.
Im glad he didnt gloss over velka too much. A certain other youtuber likes to do that and people fail to realize that characters in this series are mentioned faaaaaaar more than they make an appearance making it all about speculation and not saying velkas responsible for everything
i love the fact that when i started playing Darksouls my first character was Called Aria... still running around and now hearing the fact that the painters are called like that for tradition makes me smile :P

"...The Way of White Corona is a lost Way of White miracle. A white discus which slices through foes and is so shit that's no wonder people forgot about it..."
I had to double take and rewind to video to make sure I wasn't hearing it wrong LOLOL.
But hey, that's just a theory
A SOULS THEORY
Sayonara Chainsaw That's a pretty good theory there.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
But if that theory is true, why would she need to "see the fire"?
IIRC, Priscilla specifically says that Ariamis is the one who created the painted world - although I suppose one could grasp at straws and say she either doesn't know or isn't being literal. More likely Aria is a descendant of Priscilla or something similar with the key line being "ken to fire" which I took as "related to Gwyn."
Pendalf the One inspiration?
I swear you make these games about twice as enjoyable as I could ever find them on my own. A necessary companion piece to get all that goodness out. Good on ya, brah.
and then gael is a boss in the ringed city looking for the Dark Soul
Hold up, did you post this comment after The Ringed City DLC? If not that's some really accurate guessing.

So, Vaati, does this mean I'm a real loremaster now?
VaatiVidya" and is so shit its no wonder people forgot about it " you good sir earned a sub
The way i see Gael's boss is it's like an after story. The "and then" after killing cinder
Ashen One: "And that's how I killed the soul of cinder....then I got bored and-"
4:43
Miyazaki heard this, took it personally, and then gave the Cleanrot Knights the Halo Scythe for your sins Vaatividya lol.
It is really cool watching these Ashes of Ariandel videos after playing through the Ringed City DLC - and knowing how the series ends.
"A white discus which slices through foes and that is so shit, it's no wonder people forgot about it."
From Software really should replace the in-game description with that. It's so much more accurate.
I really want them to go all out with the 2nd DLC with atleast 4 bosses, a bunch of cool weapons & armor sets
Ravus Nox Fleuret Wish granted -From Soft
I mean technically you got that
Well geez. You got what you wanted.
Ravus you got 3 bosses, half light doesn't count cause he's a joke
Wow, wish granted...
Lore of Vaati:
Some say Vaati was once from a different world and was part of a short insignificant society known as the Minish.
So that's where the item descriptions come from...
i read this vaati's voice....
why is your voice so soothing.... omg it's better than Bob Ross. nothing but love great video
I would listen to his audiobooks!

Still a bloody amazing single player experience.
Corwin Keylon Bloodborne is the best souls game ive played
Enjoy it, its a masterpiece
Same here, had to get a ps4 pro just because of the flood of exclusives announced!
I will add my crockpot as well: How about 'Aria' being actually Priscilla herself, reborn every painting cycle. :P
that actually never accrued to me but that makes a lot of since seeing as how shes never heard from again and that they locked Aria away. but why? wouldn't it just be easier to tell a little girl a lie that they will believe? unless shes actually older than she appears. but that also raises some questions. like if she is precilla then why doesn't she look more like herself from the first game or wheres her scythe but that can all be summed up to lore, developers choices or simply that they didn't want a repeat of dark souls 1 (ironically).
Korall Skyrin
To the look: I think she quite looks like a young version, minus the tail (but may be so little, can't be seen). ---orrr Frieda claimed the scythe as the one she is using (lifehunt is inherent in priscillas soul, so)
lol that dig on the Way of White Corona was fucking awesome
"and it is so shit no wonder everyone forgot about it."
"So shit it's no wonder people forgot about it" LMAO
With every video Vaati puts up I get more and more hyped for Velka being the potential final boss of the second DLC
Can you people Belive this amazing nerd endured entire playthrough and Ashes of Ariandel, with Criken?
Nerves of steel bruh
Shh, we don't talk about DS2. Didn't you play through the third game? DS2 never happened.
Why do you say that Defalt?
BoilTheOil Amen
Gael went from "Please don't kill me" to "Even the Soul of Cinder calls me Daddy"
Painted World of Ariamis, Painted Word of Ariandel and finally Painted World of XxDarkFlameMaster69xX
Love your videos vaati they always make my day better and when I'm sick I always watch your videos keep doing what your doing man
Well i think we will be going to Londor, where probably Gael has gone to look for this Dark Soul of man.
Lmao you actually cried
Vaati what's the lore on Edward
Big Smoke edwad not Edward
There isn't one because he didn't link the flame.
You are a fake
I expected more "FIRE FOR ARIANDEL....FIRE FOR ARIANDEL"
4:33 - LOL!!! | We might find out in the last DLC.
I did not see the subtle white discus joke coming, actually had to hear it again lol great content and great commentary alongside the beautiful voice you have
Lore of Edwad Emberpants please
I don't even play the Dark Souls 3 anymore, nor have I played the DLC, but I still always eagerly await the next lore video. These are absolutely amazing! Keep up the great work Vaati!
I'm a simple man. I see a Vaati video, I press like, then log into my twelve dummy accounts just to give it extra likes.
#RESPECT
Only twelve? Psh, amateur...
The Way of White Corona. Ironic.
ironic?
lol I was about to say something
Another Corona virus joke? As if there aren’t a dozen of those already
My favourite quote of the day: "It's so sh*t that it's no wonder people forgot about it"
Goddammit Vaati, I have 2 major assignments due tomorrow, this is no time to be posting high-quality videos that I will inevitably drop everything to watch
Is it just me, or does Vilhelm sound like he's being voiced by Sean Bean?
If he was, then damn. His death legacy continues.
I think Villhelm is voiced by a guy who also does some of the soldier's voices for the Witcher 3 NPC's. It might not make much sense :D, but it's a real gruffy, low toned voice. I think the people who've played it will now what i mean.
No, not at all. Not the same regional accent.
Anytime Vaati mentions Velka in any of these DS3 videos and think : "Hey , he is gonna fail again" :D
4:43 I heard that and I legit had to listen to it again, I couldn't tell if he was saying what I thought he said because he sounded so deadpan serious xD
Now wait just a minute there, you mean to tell me Morne and his moaning shield is a worshiper of the goddess of tears? God dammit Fromsoft...
9:38 "Meooow?"
"is so shit it's no wonder why people forgot about it"
Was that part of the item description too? Orr..
DCoreB That had me rolling in tears! i couldn't stop laughing when he said that!
"I promise I'll be making a prepare to cry on Ludwig, Gehrman and Maria" -Vaati
I have to ponder where the actual f*** Aldia is. Last we saw him he became an immortal "*thing*" and haven't heard from him since, despite him most likely taking great interest in the events of DS3 and the dlc.
DS3 never references DS2 in any meaningful way, and never will.
Alker of Abyss the laddersmith is the only reference lmao
Who actuality is the dark lord?
spooky This is one of those games where none of that stuff actually matters long as there's an objective for the player.
The dark lord would most likely be the furtive Pygmy/manus being the keeper of the dark soul we have scraps of it gifted by the furtive Pygmy and (if you watch vaatis other videos) probably the original chosen undead under the influence of kaathe and Londor
I am the Dark Lord, bringer of the Human age. I killed Gods, Lords, Knights, Witches, Champions and Creatures. End of the story.
Hearing Wilhelm's words again is so haunting after knowing the whole story. The creators of this are crazy.
What's the lore on the lore Vaabi?
So thankful for your videos! Just beat the DLC and eagerly went looking for your videos.
im supposed to be playing Game Of War but this one player keeps kicking my ass

Porter Gage I heard the legend27 raped an entire village of women

Go back to scarces comment section where you belong.
we need our edwad lore Vaati! WE NEED IT. i can probably live without it.
You Know two different worlds and cycles. No one from this cycle knows personally anyone from any different cycle.
Actually Guinevere being the mother of Priscilla is just a theory, an alternative to that theory is that the Nameless King is Priscilla's father.
This video was 2 years ago?? Time sure flew by..
THE DISK IS NOT SHIT, WE JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO UNLEASH ITS FULL POWER.
We shouldn't have unleashed it's full power
That makes alot of sense. I could see a lore video, who was ariamis, and who was Ariendal.
"and is so shit, that it's no wonder people forgot about it" I laughed so hard from that. 🤣🤣🤣
Love the editing in this one. Great job!
WHERE'S MY EDWAD LORE VIDEO?
Thank you for uploading, you made my day. :)
Ain't we are this soul of man, that uncle Ghail brings to the girl?:)

I think world of elden ring is the painted world it self
i love the fact that when i started playing Darksouls my first character was Called Aria... still running around and now hearing the fact that the painters are called like that for tradition makes me smile :P

In this Dark souls there are so many references to blood and creatures turning into beasts. Hmhmhmh~
+Master De Algúnlugar not sure if you realize , but why is she making reference to the dark god . pigment, dark souls of man , and she is trying to created a. "very cold and dark place"
