  • The Kobo Elipsa is the first digital note taking device that the company has ever released. You can draw and edit ebooks and PDF files. There are plenty of basic and more advanced features for freehand drawing. It has a massive Kobo bookstore and an e-reading app to read all of your favorite books, comics or graphic novels. Dropbox, Overdrive and Pocket are also available.

Love how it refreshes the page after you erase to prevent ghosting! Such a small thing, but it really helps the screen experience.

You are wrong: apparently Kobo is using the Microsoft Pen Protocol(MPP) so every stylus using that should be compatible (e.g. Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X) and surface pen)

I wish it had a feature to split the screen. The book's page occupying like 5" on one side and a blank note taking 5" page on the other side.

You guys really should've tested the note taking capabilities of this thing with a textbook and academic papers. (Something like a science or math textbook that has a lot of charts and figures) The feature set of this thing just screams academic use. More so than the others which seem more enterprise focused.

OMG thats e-ink perfection! Kobo has the best ebook system already, it's more libraryan like than the colder Amazon style. Now with this note taking habilities, simply amazing. Take my money Kobo.

I'm curious if it is possible (and/or practical) to plug in a keyboard and just type stuff. The slightly faster refresh might make this a better experience than it used to be on other products. If it had that, I'd be tempted to gumtree my beloved ReMarkable. :) I'm also a TTS fan, so especially curious about that.

Not for me, but super-cool. I'm excited about the product because a strong dynamic company means I'll be able to keep using my device. It sucks to invest in a product and have the company go under leaving you with an expensive paperweight. I'm very happy with my Kobo Libra.

@@goodereader Lately there have been articles from the American academy of ophthalmologists and Harvard medical and others that the “blue light” claims were overstated. So I guess Kobo realized that adding those extra LEDs made no sense anymore.
Clearly if you want to keep reading ay night, you yourself are messing with your own circadian rhythm; it’s not the device fault. So no point of adding extra circuits to the device that are not really helpful.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Those note-taking features are so good and it fits in with the rest of the Kobo e-reader software so well! I'm very tempted to get it, the pack costs $630 here, which is cheaper than Boox (Boox Note3 and Note Air costs $813 and $705 respectively from a local distributor)! I have a Likebook Mimas and am trying to resist upgrading until it breaks!
(7:19) I swear I've seen that on the Kobo Aura.

  • @blazkify

I might be the minority here, but I dont actually like that manufacturer started to use Android. An optimised OS that is razor focus on note taking/reading/studying on e-ink is much better than plethora of apps thats unpolished for an ereader. Of course, it will be more expensive to develop such system with feature parity to its android counterpart, but as long as the main feature is there, and its polished, I dont mind.
Another thing is color e-ink. At the state it is right now, I actually consider it not worth it. You get color, but the screen is much dimmer than regular e-ink just because of how colour e-ink works. That is a deal breaker for me. I hope manufacturer dont abandon b&w eink for their flagship.
Just my honest opinion. Seem like this device is what Im looking for, so I might evetually buy it. But right now, Im waiting for other reviewers first

    • @fiatlux8828

On the follow up video don't forget to mention in what file format it exports the notes. Also, how does it compare price wise with the other devices? Is it cheaper? If it's cheaper than the other note taking devices, then this would be a no brainer to get. It does look great. I can see why they wouldn't go for a color screen as it would make it more expensive and complicated to make. Plus I would think attempting to use color for note taking is more cumbersome and would take more time to use. Keep it simple to use so it is practical to use.

I’ve had mine for more than a week and really like it. However, there are at least two issues that should be fixed. Firstly, the device does crash fairly often when annotating PDFs. Also, you cannot change the line thickness when writing in PDFs and the default is too thick and smudgy. Finally, a music manuscript background option for notebooks would be much appreciated.

I will say this, it's certainly a lot cheaper then the other 10.3 readers from the other companies by $100 or more because all of the others are around $500+... The two things I do like about this one is that it has USB C and you'll be able to read Manga a lot easier... Now how the images will look? I don't know. Hopefully not stretched or blurry.

I bought a remarkable 2 back in 2020. I regret it every day for how much I spent. Having owned it for over a year and then having the power button get stuck inside the device (for which remarkable said sorry but you can buy a refurbished one for $160) I am just really turned off buy e-ink devices for note taking. I decided to get a kindle paper white and it ended being a MUCH better device for what I was looking for in the first place. This device looks good, a little more affordable than its competitors by a few hundred dollars! Maybe in a few years when the technology has matured I’ll consider another eink note taking device. Unfortunately right now you either have to pay way too much money for one that runs android or you’re stuck paying less for one whose ecosystem is too closed off and or has limited features.

Can I use Calibre to upload audio books into it? Does any kind of headphones work with it or special ones?

As for the Bluetooth connection, what sort of sound are we talking? Does it support audiobooks or mp3? How about text to speech on the books?

Your video seems like a marketing ad rather a review.

It is not. We are not affiliated with cobo. I'm not sure how we can talk about any of the things that it objectively does without you thinking it is a promotional video.

Conspicuously absent is any commentary on the writing feel. Was this a review or a commentary on the ballsy move by Kobo?
Appears to me that this is an 10.3" reader with annotation capability and a note taking function throw in. What say you Morning Coach and Voya?

It doesn't look like you can edit files. I use Onyx to edit Word documents, but the new Kobo would be useless for that.

Can you load your own epubs and pdf on this device? Or do you need to only buy from the Kobo store?
