Just got this synthesizer and totally love it! Sometimes just sitting on the couch with headphones to fill dull moments. Messing around and just see where it leads to. There's a lot of weird sounds to be explored. The smaller keyboard does it work for some purposes, although I quickly run out of keys (piano player background) so I connected a bigger keyboard to it.
Andertons is the only synth channel I can rely on because it's the only channel that has someone playing the synth that can actually play keyboard. So tired of synth reviews by dummies that can only play two note intervals. Also Jack is the best.
@@jackduxburymusic I'm a big fan! All your videos either teach me something or make me laugh out loud. PS: I would love to see you review my main keyboard one day, the Crumar Seven! Would love to see what you do with that thing.

12 virtual patches == 12 slot modulation matrix. Simple info for fellow folks in the US: if you buy this from a shop in the UK you will need to purchase a UK to US plug adapter. Korg does not include all of the attachments for the universal power supply shipped with the unit. There was also no USB cable in my box.
Loved the comparison between the OpSix and the Volca FM! They are certainly different beasts, but I definitely agree with how the OpSix has a much more modern sound.
I was a little bit surprised he hardly even grazed the fact that the Volca FM is basically a DX7 in a little box with a sequencer and a bit of useful front panel tweakability, with the biggest difference that he didn't mention being the VFM is limited to sine waves for its operators, while the Opsix has far more sound source options. Obviously there's more but he went over a decent bit of that.
Hey Crolodon, thanks for watchinh and for your question mate. It certainly wasn't a "Premium" feeling keybed like the OG DX7 or the feeling of a synth Workstation like a Montage/Kronos. Weirdly I remeber it having a lot of travel and it felt lile the same one used in the Modal Cobalt and Argon which would make sense given the price point. By no means cheap or hindering, unlike the amount of keys! Hope that helps, thanks again for takimg the time to leave a comment X
Agree with Jack's comments completely. It could be better at the price point, but it's not considerably or noticeably worse than any other in its range, bar the new Modal synths, which are exceptional.
Price is always going to be a limiting factor if people want to retain spec vs form. Increase the estate, vastly increase the cost. Having an inbuilt bed, is mostly a result of RnD and popularity. Modules don't sell; larger boards lack affordability, assuming desire for AT/Quality and overall touch. So whilst you could get a SE 61 key release of this in follow to the Wavestate version the price will leap from 600/700 - 1599. For many thats too much; and affordability post pandemic will be important. Especially in Japan. Having the mobility/versatility with an inbuilt bed, is just as common an ask over with the Roland boutiques. People note the success of the Reface as well, which holds similar form factor. Ultimately if it bothers you that much just see the platform as a larger module and run it from a compliant primary on midi.
It makes sense that just plug ins are so popular, and convenient, but I love getting a new hardware keyboard and figuring it out. (It's only been 20 years since that lol) that's a lie, I've got a couple a volcas, and they are great!
DX7 = 6 Op, 1 waveform, 32 algo Volca FM = 6 Op, 1 waveform, 32 dx7-algo TX81Z = 4 Op, 8 Waveforms, 8 algo Opsix = 6 Op, 21 waveforms, 32 dx7- algo+8 opsix algo + user definable algo the waveforms make a difference. dx7: (Simple-waveform-modulator:sine) + (Simple-waveform-carrier:sine) mangled by algo = complicated waveform:square opsix : no need to create a square because its already there. TX81Z similar: not so many algo because different waveforms possible. opsix and TX81z have an advantage. (don't be too harsh on me because i oversimplified. ;-)
Not bad, but Kronos's MOD7 is more powerfull. And another thing is Kurzweil PC4, a 6-OP FM just cost one layer, so you can have 32 6-OP FM Layers in one program, and one can use as another's input sorce. Or just use VA-1's FM OP, so you can do a totally 64-OP modular FM, or maybe some FM OP with Ring/AM/Filter etc. Even can use Samples as FM modulation OP. And, all above is in one program, so you can use a FM Engine Layer, then use as another VA FM OP's input, then combine a sample to do Ring, then create a 96dB/oct Lowpass, what ever....

The keyboard is only three octaves!? Are keys suddenly too expensive to manufacture? I hope Korg bring out a sound module version of the OpSix. Please Korg. Bring out a sound module version of the OpSix.It sounds amazing but it doesn't have enough keys.
that seems to be some kind of synth tradition; also according to an article on the Wikipedia the founder was an accordionist - and those very often have 37 keys, so that may be some kind of connection
It has enough keys for the RnD design mandate. It's portable, affordable, accessible and covers the basic register. Modules don't sell and don't have sufficient internal real estate a lot of the time. So nothing is recouped on marketing and development. The Mk XL is one of the greatest selling instruments of all time, possesses the same form factor and is the bedrock of the Rk100 platform. If you need to use a larger bed, wait for SE editions like the upcoming wavestate. If you don't midi works fine. Modules are a blight on creative flow and nobody is going to invest in it, even Behringer red flagged modules on 90% of the offerings out there.
I used to think that way also. Then I came to realize that all the 61 key keyboards took up way too much space. I only really needed one keyboard with 61 keys. From there I can control all the others. I can get two sometimes 3 small synths in the space that a single 61 key takes up.
@@bryantwalley yeah I totally understand, but then you’re at a half way house between desktop modular but also missing the joy of an instrument in its own right. I’d rather it was a desktop with midi connection
The key is affordability and the fact that most people already own full size premium boards. Since the Wavestate SE will clock in at 1599 instead of an entire thousand less for the standard model - you can see why there is no market to it. Modules haven't ever sold. Which is why Roland and Yamaha also made such bank on the smaller form beds. They are mobile/improv platforms. Considering the redundancy of constantly buying full octave boards just for the keys - save yourself the overprice and use a singular master board with the action and response you love. Having endless decks of 61+ keybeds is never going to be mainstream. So why would a mass market company, that made such a name on the MicroK XL and other 37 platforms invest in it.
@@libertylizard_ nah, mate, sorry but that’s you’re own personal perspective. Gigging musos can’t rely on one master board and a load of midi keyed cheapo boxes. Besides, I like playing instruments, not pastiches of what should be an instrument.
