As a first Jackie Chan movie for you it also showcases the style and tone of Jackie's Hollywood movies very well. He is for me atleast the greatest martial artist in movie history, his style of seamlessly blending in comedy to his fighting choreography is so unique. The fact that he designs all the fights, all the stunts and does them all himself is really impressive. A really fun introduction. If you wanna go for a Jackie Chan bender then im all for it!

The "racist" statements/jokes in the movie made by Carter (Chris Tucker) is not supposed to be taken seriously. By 1998, open racism like that was not widely accepted. The jokes are supposed to be an extension of the absurd personality of Carter (and him being a bit ignorant) but not meant to be offensive. The "racist" jokes are meant to be taken satirically.

Glad you watched and enjoyed this as your first Jackie Chan movie. In terms of recommendations, I think personally the whole trilogy is pretty great thanks to their chemistry alone, and JC stunts and Chris Tucker's antics make for a really good time all round. Aside from that JC also forms a pretty good partnership with Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, I personally prefer Chan and Tucker as a duo, but Chan and Wilson ain't bad at all IMO. Hopefully you get a chance to see these other four movies with him and hopefully we also get a chance to enjoy your reaction to them (If you'd like to of course).

30:55 "Would that work?!" Yes, probably. It's because, when you fall, it's the sudden deceleration that kills you. When sliding down the banner, the total deceleration is the same, but the time over which it happens is spread out. It's like the difference between throwing a water ballon at a wall (sudden deceleration) and throwing it to a partner who catches it (gradual deceleration).

I can't put Rush Hour films, Shanghai Noon/Knights, and The Forbidden Kingdom and I love Rush Hour 2 and Shanghai Noon. But they don't feel like Jackie Chan films. I also enjoyed the remake to Around The World In 80 Days but that too doesn't feel like a JC film.

Jackie Chan is one of my favorite martial arts actors and the reason I was obsessed with martial arts films when I was a teen, they don't make me like they used to in regards to the stunts which were all practical. All his stunts were done BY him, there are movies where he's broken bones and ended up in the hospital and in some films you can visually SEE that his team actually tank some of the hits. His group of stuntsmen go above and beyond for his stunts, if you want to watch another of his movies I recommend Police Story, Rumble in the Bronx or Who Am I. If you want to watch a movie with amazing choreography that isn't Jackie Chan I'd recommend Ong Bak or The Raid: Redemption.

shooting C4 with a gun wouldn't actually cause it to detonate. It's one of the most stable explosives and can only be detonated with a detonator. :)

12:17 Alyska it’s 1998 & they might’ve filmed some of these scenes in 1997 but personal phones are very expensive & only rich people had a Personal Phone. So in this case it would be a long shot having a Phone. 📞

Some scenes reminded me about other films I'd advise you to watch: 'Die hard' for rain of money and 'The fifth element' for Chris Tucker

I know this video is old, but for a Jackie Chan film, you should watch Gorgeous. Jackie plays a rich guy who falls for a common girl. It has comedy and romance. Its really his best film.
