Was introduced to LTJ Bukem by a friend who played me this track and it sparked my love for D&B way back in the late 90s - listening to this now is tinged with sadness as that friend died unexpectedly this year to a brain haemorrhage but I am thankful that I knew him at all and that he helped widen my taste in music. RIP Mike, miss you more than you know mate.

Lmfao. I remember when all the vinyl was being sold off en masse. There was a stall in our local indoor market selling off stuff at silly prices. D and B, Hardcore, Dub, Revives, Rare Groove, Funk. Basically it was a gold mine. He didn't have a clue what he was selling. Me and my mate spent hundreds. Did pretty well!
Did you also gave that guy the adres of a good mental hospital.ha,ha. I once was searching for a record from Steve Mason and Pete and it was hard to find in the U.K and in Holland. On a day me and my mate went to Cologne (Germany) and there was a two floor record store with a basement. We came in that basement and there were standing more than 40 !! the same records from Steve Mason and Pete, the one we were searching after for a long time. We smoked some weed before and we were really thinking that we were hallucinating !! After drinking a few beers we went back and we discovered that it was REAL !! We laughed all day so I know how you must have felt. Those are amazing experiences in life !! Cheers.
Best DNB mixes I still see that guy who owned that stall around from time to time. He walks around in a vest in the middle of winter. That tells a story! Mad as a box of frogs! Glad to hear you found what you wanted! Good that those things still bring smiles to our faces. Hold onto those crates of records mate! I know I will!
This and Adam F Circles are my 2 favorite dnb tracks of all time, literally changed the range of sound experience for me. If I could only describe to someone how everyone dancing to sounds like this as the sun came up, at some illegal rave that was just filled with people there for the music... not to be seen, before social media, just being in the moment, it was the most beautiful time of life.
Big it up. Drop it down and get lost in the soundscapes. Saw LTJ a few times. Went to the Brunel Rooms which was a temple for Drum and bass and it was just down the road. Friday nights top floor. Had a great scene. Adam F, Roni Size, Fabio, Grooverider, Bukem, Hype, Rap and on and on. Thanks
Years ago I was on holiday in Thailand & just by chance I saw a flyer that LTJ Bukem was playing that night. ( one off stopover gig ) he was wicked, but you all knew that right !
An absolutely amazing experience into the Bukem prospective of DnB music... I have goosebumps everytime I hear the name of this guy... a genious producer and a talented dj... proud junglist massive !
I just want to tear the streets up in my Type R to this song. Love the LTJ Bukem, Peshay, Nookie, 4 Hero, Photek, Shogun, Mystic Moods, Bliss N Tumble, Grooverider, DJ Rap, Doc Scott, Icons, Wax Doctor and everyone else making this Intelligent Jungle / Intelligent DnB style in the 90s. It makes me think fast but is relaxing and chill at the same time. Makes me feel like I'm in a Ridge Racer/ Gran Turismo game.
My parents used to play a chill out CD during car journeys when I was little in the early 2000’s, this track was on it and was my favourite. I would fall asleep peacefully to this whilst staring out the window at the horizon with the sun setting when driving back home.
Was probably the same CD that I first heard this. It’s called “The chillout Album: The essential late night mix”. It’s got a blue cover with a lava lamp on it. Only a couple of D&B tunes on there but the rest is also really good
Here’s one for you: I first saw Bukem ( as he was originally known - lti came later ) in 1990 at the moon club ( which became Lakota ) in Bristol. I was still in my school uniform…. He played before dj phantasy, and dropped a white label of made in two minutes by bug khan, followed by strings of life: changed my life right there.
choooooooon....deepness right here brothers and sisters.....much love, especially during these strange times....stay strong....peace x (54 year old E-x Raver)
Surely this tune changed everything? It gave Goldie the props to do something different to the Ragga bollox going around in 1994 and put intelligent sampling, vocals and soul at the heart of this amazing music - which is still going strong 30 years later
I used to go to club night called 'Speed' at the Mars club which was in a Soho basement in 1995! I saw Fabio, Kemistry and Storm, and LTJ. There used to be hanging out Goldie, and I think Ray Keith, and Ash etc etc - who knew it would become legend
He was telling us about space vibes mid 90's. He had his Radio show. I remember listening to his shows years and years ago. LTJ is truly way ahead of his time. Someone i always come back to, The God Chord song by Bjorn is another one i always float back to. Man take me back, i need to go back if only just for 5 minutes.
Why can't music these days do a proper beautiful bass lines as it was back in the days? Like every track LTJ Bukem touches are instant classics, beautiful and made out of gold. Respect.
Well done Mr.Ltj Buckem all these years you kept your secret hidden, clearly But for the music that was placed into the air. we didnt care. for one can channel, and not be responsible for the beauty made
Seriously, is someone debating whether this is dnb or not? As Mathew Clarke say's, bukem was dropping this at Dreamscape's, Helter Skelter's and World Dance's in the mid 90's. He's a pioneer for the whole dnb scene!
Tom Ware How can ANYBODY argue whether or not this is DnB LOL? Even if he DID take one of the most iconic chord patterns in the history of DnB straight from a track called Sunflash by Lemon Sol, this is DnB thru & thru, and will always be one of my fave tracks of all time in this genre. Its just beautiful man, I remember the unreleased remix by Paradox (I think) which was great too, it had a more Jungly feel to it.
Tom Ware Can't fully explain just what it was like to first hear Bukem playing tracks like this back in 95. I mean, I did like some other Jungle/Hardcore tracks from about 91 onwards, but I didn't really like the direction it was heading in before this came along and blew everyone's minds, too many 'hoover' samples and too moody, macho sounding for my taste. When his Good Looking/Looking Good label released track after classic track in the mid 90's it felt like he single handedly pioneered a whole new sound and for a good couple of years back then he was definitely one of the, if not the, top DJ's on the planet and I always liked Conrad's MC style as well, he didn't overdo it, just enough to keep the party going without taking focus from the music. Completely reinvigorated the scene in my opinion, thought it had all but died by about 93/4, nights out were getting dodgy, violence and crack rearing their ugly heads and ruining the vibe [plus the authorities were really on top and the little chaps that fuelled the atmosphere had dried up, full of MDA instead, meaning everyone sitting down too fucked to dance]. But the summer of 95 was absolutely fantastic, mostly because Bukem and a few others were spinning this type of stuff and the Dutch labs were back on form as well, best atmosphere in the clubs I'd seen since 88/9, 'cos everyone was just out to dance to tracks like this 'til the lights came back on.
***** I was lucky enough to see Bukem play a free night (yea FREE, BUKEM! LOL!) for some random charity. It was good, a whole world better than the vomit-inducing 'Jump-Up' nights that make up about 80+% of the DnB clubscene these days but by then (this was about 6 years back) all he was playing was commercial, cheesy liquid... I wish I was old enough to have experienced the Jungle & DnB clubscene back in the 90's because these days I find it shit, and a complete waste of money. The music is terrible, pure noise, only enjoyable when you've had about 7 bottles of Stella and you've turned into a complete animal. Sad times man...
Tom Ware ugh I don't get why people always get into the jungle vs d&b arguments. Chances are if you like jungle, you like d&b and vice versa, not to mention people seem to have different definitions of the two genres. Some people say that for a tune to be jungle, it needs dub/reggae samples and other people say that the difference is whether the drums are chopped the fck out or if they're loops. The point is these debates are stupid and we're all listening to the same music anyway, so lets just enjoy it
