i remember listening to this live, i was night fishing in hertfordshire and all i could pick up was radio 1 and not the pirate radio i liked to listen to so all weekend i had to put up with house music and rock bands then this came on and it was one of the most epic sets i ever heard, i was16yo had an 8th of puff and the 6 double A battery radio and i was loving life.
Nothing comes close to this ... except the EM Radio 1 Bukem set Part 2. RIP Conrad. You invested your heart and soul into the music and left the ego aside... Peace
And to youngsters who are blown away by this now in the 21st century, respect due but just imagine how exciting it was for us in the 90s when it was all unfolding and happening in real time
I remember to have bought this as a pirate tape in Portobello during my first trip to London: I didn't know what it was but the guy said it was🔥. He was right. Imagine listening to this in Italy in the 90s! It changed my music taste for good.
Lost all respect for Pete Tong here, in fact at the very moment he calls LTJ 'Buck-em' // this is a guy who went on pride himself on being close to the DnB scene. Bukem has been a major player since the late 80s and Tong is now on the outside looking in. Clearly hadn't even heard the set as Conrad names checks Danny within the first 30 seconds. Idiot. Anyway, rant over - I love this music. Saw Bukem 2 weeks ago at Fabric. Smashed it to pieces. As usual 😎
As Pete Tong was the host I'm pretty sure he knew who Bukem was when this aired 29 years ago. Really it just sounds like his accent when he says Back-ham. I've heard Scousers call him Buke-ham (like Puke but with B)
