    The RX 580 is simply better than the 1060 when you look at it overall. But the catch is that it's very hard to find right now at MSRP due to dem damn miners, hence most people are still buying 1060's which is quite sad. This card deserves to be a best seller for gamers...not miners.

    • @maccollectorz
      @maccollectorz 6 лет назад +1

      It's also better for those still using Apple's tower Mac Pro. OSX has built-in drivers for many AMD cards, so I bought an RX 580 8GB Pulse and popped it into my 2009 Mac Pro-no driver installation needed. With the GTX 1060 I had, I needed to install NVIDIA Web Drivers (which are annoying to deal with), and they were very glitchy. In fact, they were so bad, I had to log out and log back in after waking my machine up from sleep; otherwise, the card would glitch out and make my computer virtually unusable.
      This specific model of and brand AMD card was also a no-brainer for me because it's the very same card which Apple is using within their beta eGPU kits. Might as well have the very same card which they're using. I've seen no reason to go back to NVIDIA. The only issue I've had is in Windows: the Windows drivers are awful and caused my games to crash. I had to tweak the AMD Wattman settings a bit in order to avoid this.

      Exactly lol unless u are installing a Waterblock or got one of the dual fan version the 1060 Temps get way too hot and the capacitors and chips are bullshit! I took apart 3 msi 1060all the same exact model 6gb oc single fan version and all of them had different chip manufacture one hynix one sk something and the other Samsung wtf is quality control I thought msi was top tier quality but the sapphire Radeon is so much better u legitimately cannot compare the two yes uses more power to mine a little less crypto but longevity over anything else u have me sold capacitors that last 15-20 years versus msi which claims 10 years have yet to see one make it that far but time will tell

    Wendell, some of those OEM PCs have limited PCIe power delivery. Instead of the usual 75W of the PCIe 3.0, they give something like 44 (?) Watts. If you got a GT 1030, 610, 630 or 710 you could try to use that. The bad part is that you don't usually see any of those warnings in the manuals.

    • @terminashunator
      @terminashunator 7 лет назад +7

      I second this. I made a cheap server with a Optiplex 9010 board + a i5 2500 and with the MT and DT versions the PCIe rail is limited to 50W. :(

    • @cybercat1531
      @cybercat1531 7 лет назад +6

      25Watt (eugh) is also a thing on some boards. Yes it's crazy low.

    • @cataria3903
      @cataria3903 7 лет назад

      if it is the issue, then a custom graphics card bios, that shifts power draw to the 8 pin from pcie socket could maybe solve it
      amd already did such an update on the overdrawing rx480, so it is possible to do on the polaris cards, so maybe check the graphics card bios route?

    • @MrBiky
      @MrBiky 7 лет назад

      cataria pega
      The power draw of the RX480s was solved through a firmware / bios update of the card itself (basically, on-board drivers), not on the motherboard bios. And I believe those PCIe are hard-wired to give that much power, you can't do any software hacks to make it give more Watts. I could be wrong though, I met a lot of cases with those OEM builds, but never looked into it to see if it's actually doable.

    • @cataria3903
      @cataria3903 7 лет назад +3

      @mrbiky
      nono u understood me wrong.
      i meant flashing the cards to only draw 40 watts or whatever the motherboard's max is through the pcie slot and the rest through the pcie power connector.
      so the cards then would run within the spec of the motherboard.
      and the higher draw from the 8 pin doesn't matter.
      that was the solution to get the rx480 within pcie slot spec, they changed it to draw more power from the power connector, which doesn't matter.
      i meant if amd could do it with a bios update, we can probs too, or amd could release a "use on your own risk" bios update to make the cards run on those old oem motherboards.
      so tackle the issue on the card side not the motherboard side if u get what i mean.

    hey there... i just upgraded from Sapphire Nitro R7 370 4gb to the Sapphire Pulse Rx 570 4gb, now that the mining fever has passed and the MSRP are back in town (short of)
    I have to say that i needed to overclock my 370 up to 1075mhz (which for anyone who knows its on the verge of the "limit" allowed by factory GPU BIOS that will crash at 1100mhz -which was a response to the extreme overclock HD 7850 allowed up to 1200mhz which ended up devouring the higher tier 7870- but back to the topic) and then, with that OC i was playing triple A tittles at something like 45ish fps at high settings give or take some fps and some higher or lower quality stuffs depending on tittle... and the newest game i tested it was Far Cry Primal about 2 or 3 monts ago.
    When i purchased the Rx 570, i realized what Sapphire did with their "pulse" edition... they are "naked" (no RGB no dual BIOS no factory OC) Nitro Cards... they have the same carcass but they removed all the fancy features that make the Nitro+ a little more expensive... Even my R7 370 box was quite more fancy than the Rx 570 one. But the compromises made to cheapen the price does not affect the natural headroom any dual fan GPU has to overclock at least an 8 to 10% the core and a 10 to 15% the memory. All in all, the raw performance at a friendly price it is exactly what anyone should need
    Now with the Rx 570 i play 1080p 60fps (or more, about 75 avg and 57 min on all the games i tested) constant at ultra (MSAA Off which btw noone should use except if playing with GTX1080ti on 1080p 60hz monitor) on every single game i tried.
    I could try to overclock, but its just me and my need of pushing the hardware to the limit... not a real gaming need by no means.
    The rest of my rig:
    Fx8350 @4.4 W/212 Evo
    Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2
    16gb HyperX Fury 1866 cl10
    120gb SATA3 SSD / 1TB 7200rpm HDD

    u're wrong, radeon chill is not to limit max frame rate, it is to intelligently work with player input in games.
    one example would be your game stays at 60 fps while u stand still and do nothing and goes up to maximum when u walk around or aim.
    amd also added frame rate target control, this piece of software can limit your maximum fps, for example u can put maximum frame rate here to 138 of 144 to surely stay within freesync range.
    or u can go radeon chill and set 60- 144 fps etc....
    both good features, but radeon chill is not the stupid frame rate limit u make it seem in the video.

      more like "upgrade an old oem system" than a graphics card review. but I guess its fine since there are tons of other reviews out there with lots of numbers; and the information he gave are targeted for a different audience than the typical gamers. one thing he mentioned that I believe was wrong is that "the 570 incapable of displaying native 1440p", which is definitely not the case, in fact it can push native 4k @ 120Hz through each of the displayports v1.4. I think what he meant instead is pushing 1440p gaming experience which is true. the 480 is more suited for 1440p gaming but hey the 570 can do it as well. I played many games at 1440p with VSR on my MSI RX 470 @1350Mhz and it did great at high/ultra settings while pushing a solid 60-75fps. there are few exceptions that I have to go back to 1080p while keeping 60+ fps at high/ultra like witcher 3, GTA V with MSAA x2, Watch Dog 2. but almost all other games play nicely on 1440p using the 470.

      And saying it runs "fine" is not acceptable, how fine was it, give us numbers and facts DX
      There are so many cards running things "fine" like there are definitions of "fine".

      nah, from what i understand HBM is terrible for mining compared to gdd memory. no idea why, but that's what i've heard. but what will help is both amd and nvidia are planning on releasing cards specifically for mining. no video ports on them. would be interesting to see if you could cross fire the mining version with the normal gamer version. there's an idea Wendel. when ever they release them try that.

    • @Heruvilius
      @Heruvilius 7 лет назад

      If those cards are more expensive than gaming ones, then miners will still buy gaming ones. So util cryptocurrencies fall, all of us poor gamers (those who don't want to spend over 250 USD for a card) are fucked. Up the ass. With a BBC. Which is painful. =(

  • @oldschool1079

    with rx480 cards in many cases specially if you had older PSU, you have to have PSU which has more amps on rail(s), that solved problems with POST or ingame crashing for many people, in my case i had older Seasonic S12 500 Watt but it had two 12V rails with 17 amps on each instead of single 24v rail with more amps, i replaced it with cheapo office grade corsair VX500 which had single 24v rail and more amps, system now works like a charm. But since this CX PSU used in this video is better then the one i have, problem lies elsewhere.

    I got a HD6970 to work with a Optiplex 980. OEM mobos often swap pin definitions for ATX-24pin so be careful when replacing the old PSU. You need to jump start the PSU for graphics card and use the stock PSU for everything else, or you can figure out their definition and make your own adapter.

    You know, random bit at the beginning about the dig at driver CDs and all. Why not just include them on a really cheap 4gb flash drive? If they feel like they have to include them, they should at least include them on a device that we can plug into (Basically) anything. Good look at the cards btw.

    • @aidanjt

      Agreed, the fglrx driver was a basket case that AMD have since abandoned in favour of AMDGPU, which is vastly superior since it works with the open source kernel and userspace display infrastructures rather than reimplimenting them half-arsed.

  • @magottyk
    @magottyk 7 лет назад

    Yes I'm running a R7 260X on a 1440P monitor (freesync) and have to run low to medium settings to keep the frame rates up in modern titles. e.g Doom on lowish @1440p = 40FPS, many older titles I can get 75FPS (max refresh) with tweaked medium to high settings.
    My other system has a 7850 on a 1080P monitor (tv actually), I don't play games on this much.
    I'd have upgraded to a 480/580 but I'm waiting for Vega as I can't just buy a new graphics card on a whim, I'm on a 3 year minimum cycle for graphics and I'm stretching the old cards and living with low IQ settings because of Vega, specifically because of the memory caching system which will allow playability on games that need more than what's on board.
    A 580 would be perfect for my current needs, but I suspect that two years down the track that it'll start falling off performance @1440p whereas a Vega (core) won't. So am I punishing myself unnecessarily with delay after delay of Vega, probably but as the RX 580 is considered borderline for 1440P at max settings, I could be cutting my own throat for titles unreleased if I settle for that.
