Jesus who is the one and only true God and Creator came to earth 2000+ years ago to go to the cross to pay our sin debt in full. His sacrifice was sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). A created being could not pay the infinite penalty required for sin against an infinite God. Only God could pay such an infinite penalty. Only God could take on the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21), die, and be resurrected, proving His victory over sin and death and that true and only God is JESUS! And He did all that because He loves us and wants to save us and have a relationship with us. JESUS is the only way to Heaven, only He can save us from sin and from hell ( Luke 5:32, John 14, Romans 6:23). Jesus is waiting for you to come to Him, He won't cast you away from Himself if you come to Him. He calls us all to repentance, He loves us and wants to save us. believe and have faith in God then the Holy Spirit will come in and lead you to repent of your sins and God will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you by the blood of Jesus and you'll get born again by His Holy Spirit and have His salvation, you will become a new creation (John 3:3-19). God bless

    2:16
These few seconds are the most brilliant and suspenseful part of the entire movie. We all know that Sweeney is out to kill The Judge, and now his enemy sits before him in the chair, rather defenseless. Before this, Sweeney starts singing somewhat of a reprise to the song My Friends, and begins to sharpen the blade. Now, as we watch Sweeney raise his blade and arm, we await the slashing of The Judge's throat. However, this part never comes. Instead, Sweeney gently glides over the shaving cream, and continues to sing Pretty Women to The Judge. It's just so brilliant and so bone chilling that you realize that you had been holding your breath ever since you saw Sweeney raise the blade.

Probably my favourite song in the whole film. Just the whole idea of this song. From my perspective I see a broken man singing with the man responsible for his life falling apart, but both singing about the same woman. Lucy. Turpin, having the chance to be killed by Sweeney at any moment, remains oblivious to Sweeney's true identity and doesn't realise both are singing about the same woman.
Just with every song you can go so deep into the film and what they're thinking while singing. Really amazes me.

It's weird how stories evolve over time, Sweeney Todd was originally written as an outright villain, a barber who murdered his patrons and sold them for meat in Mrs Lovett's pies. It wasn't until the 1970's that the character was re-imagined as an anti-hero who had a reason for his crimes. Between the 70's and now, aided by Tim Burton's movie, he evolved into something more like a folk hero. That's a complete character reversal, he went from a villain we were meant to despise and revile, to a sympathetic character we sympathise with and regard as a hero of folk legend. It's weird how these things change. Frankly, I find the character more compelling as a sympathetic hero,

as to the story itself, taking into account that Sweeney Todd appeared in Penny Dreadful magazines in the late 19th century, the Stephen Sondheim musical appeared in 1979, it could well be that the harry Potter series was written by a fan of Sweeney Todd. I have no proof, mind you, but the HP stories do get pretty dark towards the end (Avada Kadevra, Sectumsempra, etc)

This is probably Tim Burton's most beautiful movie when it comes to gothic stories.
With Edward Scissorhands, there was still humor with the beautiful story. Sweeney Todd has no humor and seems to rely on the tragedy of Todd's character. The music is either melancholy with violins playing/a sweet harp/flutes or angry with drums and ominous French horns. I do love how they take care of making the music beautiful which in turn makes the film feel more elegant despite the general tone of it.

    • @LongandWeirdName
      @LongandWeirdName Год назад

Indeed. What do you mean no humor? I was smirking half of the movie and loudly exhaled though my nose at least ten times with scenes like the roach on the table, the itchy wig on the kid, how he directed his own wife to act out the Mrs Lovett admitting to not using cats in her pies because "them pussycats is quick" scene, etc. And that's just the originals. When we also add the jokes from the source material... It turns hilarious. This is a dark comedy, but a comedy none the less. Like most of the best Burton movies are.

    • @Shadywolf09
      @Shadywolf09 Год назад

@@LongandWeirdName I feel like since the movie is about a man who is set on revenge, it's a serious movie because of Todd's pain. It's the reason behind the whole movie..he thinks the love of his life is dead, he can't find his daughter, he's angry at the man who took away the life he had.
Todd doesn't smile unless it's to use someone for his benefit or to kill them. He's a character that embodies pain and vengeance..and since he is the main character, there's not much comedy as I think people believe.

+The Dee strange isn't it, leaving a comment like that then a month later that person dies :( I just watched Love Actually over New Year. And last week I watched Extras and was laughing at the David Bowie episode then days later, he dies :'(

+The Dee I quite enjoyed the movie. This song in particular is chilling because it's essentially a "love song" but one sung by two of the darkest characters in the film.

+The Dee I adore the way both sang this song. It is sensitive and not overbearing. On stage gusto is needed, yes, but it often seems overdone.

You want to talk about overdone? Compare Phantom of the Opera's overture between the play and the movie :P
      Movie:
Auctioner: Perhaps we can... frighten away the ghost... of so many years ago... with a little illuminaton. Gentlemen?
*DUUUUUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNN*
      Play:
Auctioner: Perhaps we can frIGHTEN THE GHOST! OF SO MANY YEARS AGO!!! WITH A LITTLE!!!!!! ILUMINATION!!!!111 GENTLEMEN!!!!!!!!!11111one
*DUUUUUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNN*

Johnny Depp is one of those actors where in one second his a pirate dancing with a jar of dirt, in the next he's a Native American jumping across moving trains, and in THE NEXT he's singing a song about killing you with a razor. He's a really talented actor.

The movie version has the timing down immaculately perfect! Something that is rare in live performance.

Shaving will never be quite the same =*(
Rest in peace, Alan Rickman. I never had the pleasure of being in your company, but I must thank you for portraying a character such as Severus Snape by brilliantly capturing such an intricate, personally relatable character. Like the other great talents who we've lost this week, you were taken far too soon.

Lyrics since apparently no one's decided to put them here yet
What can I do for you today sir?
    Stylish trimming of the hair?
    Soothing skin massage.
    Sit sir, sit.
You see sir a man infatued with love!
    Her ardent and eager slave!
So fetch the pomade and pumice stone,
And lend me a more seductive tone!
A sprinkling perhaps of French cologne!
    But first sir I think . . .
    A shave . . .!
    The closest I ever gave!
In a merry mood today Mr. Todd?
'Tis your delight sir catching fire
From one man to the next!
'Tis true sir love can still inspire
The blood to pound the heartly pyre!
    What more?
    What more?
    Can man require
    Than love sir!
    More than love sir!
    What sir?
    Women!
    Ah yes women . . .
    Pretty women . . .
    Now then my friend . . .
    Now to your purpose . . .
    Patience, enjoy it
Revenge can't be taken in haste.
Make haste and if we wed you'll be commended, sir!
    My lord!
And who may it be said is your intended sir?
    My ward!
    Pretty as a rose bud . . .
    Pretty as her mother?
    Huh? What was that?
    Nothing, sir! Nothing!
    Pretty women . . .
    Fascinating . . .
    Sipping coffee . . .
    Dancing...!
    Pretty women . . .
    Are a wonder. . .
    Pretty women!
    Sitting in the window! Or
    Standing on the stair!
Something in them cheers the air . . .!
    Pretty women . . .
    Silhouetted . . .
    Stay within you . . .
    Glancing...!
    Stay forever
    Breathing lightly...
    Pretty women!
    Pretty women!
    Blowing out their candles! or
    Combing out their hair!
    Even when they leave
    They still are there!
    They're there
    Ah! Pretty women,
    At their mirrors!
    In their gardens!
    Letter-writing!
    Flower-picking!
    Weather-watching!
How they make a man sing!
Proof of heaven as you're living,
    Pretty women! Sir, pretty women!
    Yes pretty women,
    Here's to! pretty women,
    Pretty women,
    Pretty women

@ grod coyote thank you for the lyrics which are beautiful but then it was Stephen Sondheim’s creation. Such an Oscar worthy performance by all but more so ,Johnny Depp who brought Todd to life.
