The problem with the buildings and smaller props is they don’t look like they’re anchored in the world. Seems like some designer just plopped them down. There’s too many clean lines where the building meets the ground. It’s looks so unnatural. This goes for the city buildings and the ones on the outskirts. Some of the roads look very unnatural too. Theyre so clean and perfect like they were just made. I saw a dirt roadway that lacked any grass whatsoever, it looked like a 360 game. Hopefully they do more passes and add layers of detail.
Thanks for taking the time to do such a detailed run down of the new map. Your points appear very structured and thought threw, here’s hoping that the developers watch this video and take heed.
I just tried it and my first impression was that it looked pretty cool as well, but when you really try it you quickly realise it's basically just a massive grass field with random trees and foliage thrown in, and with a few disconnected locations they tried to make interesting but are absolutely separated from the rest of the map. There's no strategy possible in this map whatsoever, no long cover lines to allow for flanking. It's just running from cover to cover, but each piece of cover can be shot through and everything is open. It's just impossible to do anything but run, die, try again... or sit somewhere and camp. Plus all the new assets have by far the lowest quality textures of any assets in the game. The streets look weird with awkwardly placed props, streets running into nowhere, houses all closed and extremely empty streets compared to real HLL maps.
It will take some time to develop strategies, but I had the same concern and shared it in the feedback form. We will have to see how it pans out but it’s almost like the opposite of purple heart lane. PHL is very arterial and flat, with little cover.. and this can make it boring and predictable. Mortain is the exact opposite end of the spectrum… there’s an unlimited number of ways to attack a point or move into position. It’s refreshing and innovative and I’m glad they took the risk, even if they end up dialing back the soft and hard cover.
Wish they would revamp the foliage on all maps now to look more like these new foliage assets. I don’t mean the amount of foliage, just the art aspect of it.
Fun fact: Mortain is actually French for grass - and yes, this is completely made up but *oh my god the grass foliage everywhere, this could be lawn mower sim 2024*
I don't think console is holding the game back when it comes to enterable buildings because maps like carentan have lots of open houses in console and that map runs very well, maybe those houses that you can't enter are new assets that t17 made without interiors
I think the most problematic thing about the bush rendering is it will create very frustrating play experiences against classes like the machine gunner. Those who stay at range will be much better off, and very difficult to spot, than those who will be maneuvering. These bushes were probably added to provide concealment to flank with, but may inadvertently create traps for those who do flank.

lamp post is out of place but the gardens are not out of place. the war itself was not fought on grounds built for war......they were fought in and fortified in the normal world throughout europe. so seeing a garden or planter boxes behind a house in this map does not seem uncommon, it seems much more realistic.
He acts like the whole map should look old and worn out, but during that time a lot of the houses were new roads were new/newish a lot of the things we think should look worn and old, just didn’t sometimes on battlefields, it was common to come across houses in near perfect or new condition, officers liked to use them as there quarters, especially the nazis
You guys should compare the maps in hell let loose with Google maps of the areas. Their attention to detail is astonishing. Streets a buildings are petty much bang on the real places. Yes there's artistic licence in there but overall they are incredibly accurate.way more accurate than squad 44 ...I know ,I have compared. This new map and chapel are accurate again. The forest actually is as dense as shown. Buildings generally are variances of accuracy but they are where real buildings are or were. The Devs need congratulations for that alone,there's been some homework done. Hopefully the game will play as well as it looks.
That was a concern I had. Now I think more usable buildings could be a very nice thing. Also being able to enter Petite Chapelle would be very interesting I think. Now as mentionned by others, I think the map still lacks some "life". Like you can feel this is not real. The houses seem oddly placed, or just dropped on the terrain. When they change this I think it'll be a great map yeah.
The trailer was the evidence that these devs are not the same lvl as the prev team quality wise. Probably their first big project. Stopped playing it with the British update.
I love the void you fill in the HLL YT community mono and always have but god damn i wish you put more effort into your vids. They feel so thrown together with not enough editing and just not enough love put in. I think your channel could be much bigger but videos need a ton more love imo.. maybe too time consuming but just my thoughts.
Played a little last night, there are some really great areas and i love fighting in the little forest areas, lots of dense brush and low level trees without just endless hedgerows, but there are a lot of optimisations that will be required. I want to see a little more battle damage in spots and in the town it feels odd to have a whole row of absolutely bombed out structures across the street from a pristine church. At least have some craters, rubble piles, and damage to the surroundings. Also a lot of the trench works felt like the exact wrong height.
Does this map have actual accessible structures or are there 75 different structures that are just basically taken up space on the map and are more or less objects your forced to go around constantly?
I would they’re just working it in a basic design process. Just blocking in big areas and make changes as time goes on. I wouldn’t sweat anything in terms of buildings and minor details yet. I just hope they design some new interiors and buildings for the map as well.
Surprised people still play this trash what with the inconsistent craphics that give people xray vision, constant lag and crashes and inconsistent hitregs. Seriously I cant tell you how many times Ive had the ironsights dead center on a guys chest right in front of me and """"missed""" Not to mention 90% of the playerbase is braindead and dont communicate
This game is years old and they cant even get the matchmaking right every round on console u have 88-160 ping its just bad i have 300mbs internet and in every other game 15ms ping Wth is wrong with hell let loose. ? And when u look at the score board everybody have the same stupid high ping except 1-2 people who have a 30-40 ping. The game feels so whack on console...

I totally agree. It can be the best map to date, but 1. they really need to fix this rendering/optimization issue 2. they really need to open those buildings.. what is the point of them in the game if we cannot, get inside = this is not realistic and no fun to play. Games like squad, squad44 which are older games and other fps games have maps with open buldings/compounds, so I really don't understand what is the issue in HLL.
I ran around on an empty server to check it out. The transitions from foliage to open fields felt off, the buildings were nothing more than a copypasta job, and the entire map just felt like a rush job. Other than that, with all of the dense foliage, it's a recon player's dream.

Loved this game for as long as it lasted, but I recently quit playing because of the Lost Connection To Host thing. I tried everything they mentioned on the forums, disabled AV, disabled IPV6, reinstalling the game, moving the game to another SSD, installing nvidia experience, even tried messing with my MTU size. Nothing works, every game i join i loose the connection between 5-10mins of joining the server.
I had this happen, change the router and especially its cable and reinstall hll, just in case, try to distribute the Internet from your phone and check if the connection is stable (if not, then the problem is in the computer’s hardware)
@@North-tu9yd You sir made me troubleshoot further since i was so damn sure my switch wasn't causing problems. I have my internet modem downstairs and a managed switch upstairs. I took the switch out of my configuration and connected the 2 utp cables with some cheap passive extender directly to my pc. I did not lose connection to host anymore !!! Woop woop, but i went a little further and figured out what was causing the problem in the managed switch. For some reason the WAN port had a correct IP assigned from the DHCP router downstairs, but all my hardware connected to the switch had different IP ranges. My switch decided to be a 2nd DHCP server, i have no clue why or when this started happening and ofcourse i only want my modem to distribute DHCP. I just never noticed since games like WoW and other online games never ever dropped out. Even if you think you know what you're doing.....oh well, i'm glad WE solved it :)

I certainly hope the fact that like.. 80% of these buildings are just boxes you can't walk into is just because it's still in development. "Capture the church" - but you can't go in it.

I agree, town should be more in the center of the map. I hope they will drop a complete city map but I dont know if it will be possible and still be historically accurate? Stalingrad was supposed to be a city map but i think it is way to many open areas. remeber the movie "Enemy at the gates"? In the movie the town feels way more dense than the map we play.

Yeah it's a good time to get in if you need to relearn stuff since most everyone is. If you're other experienced it's a rough time because most everyone is learning stuff.
Great job on the rundown of this map. And yes, it does need more work done to it. Maybe that's why they had you guys play this map before it gets released. Also, in one part of the video, you gave me an idea that should be brought to the developers. Mobile artillery, such as the German Waffle. It was being used in that time period of the war.
If they can finish the buildings so we can enter most of them and we definitely have to be able to enter the churches with such good sight lines not being able to gain elevation in a building with an mg will be such a waste.
El Alamain is a great map. Also for Infantry. It just shows, that most of the players are addicted to the BushMaps. In my opinion, fighting for strategic positions is more fun, then for the strategic bushes xD
This map looks awful. People dont realize about the huge drop in quality compared to the maps that black matter did. Cheap repetitive assets and 0 buildings you can actually get in. Feels like a cheap carboart nuke town. The foliage its the only things that looks better at the cost of significant performance. Honesly, this game will not be the same anymore.
MAP LOOKS DOPE MAN!! Hopefully they do make some of those houses entrable and have some of the houses randomly have some more cover. They should have more logs on the ground or something for random cover in the forest areas. Looks sick honestly
This game is so poorly optimized on console and feels like shit. My jaw dropped when I learned it was on the Unreal engine. I love the game but it needs work on the console end.

the buildings should be enterable. all of them. memory excuses are bs, all the old maps have plenty of buildings you can enter. being a AAA dev now, they really should up their game. its turned in to an asset flip with lazy map makers.
Thats what happens when they drop blackmatter. That studio wasn’t the best in the world , but they sure knew how to build maps. Team17 does not at the same level. Sound design okay all day, but map design , mehhh…
everybody was flicking their beans when HLL got the big wig “developers” on board. but big wig developers only mean lazy design, lack of details and a buggy experience overall. they intentionally ruin games like this because there are no politics injected in them
The mg placement in hell let loose is the worst I have ever seen...on all maps. Frustrating and gets you killed easily. Mono raised it here,but this is a huge issue throughout.

Since the console release they dumping down the game in graphic wise. Best example are sniper scopes from 3d now 2d...

No other HLL maps has 10k bushes, just a lame camper map.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I'll take it to heart. I definitely rushed that video and didn't have enough time to make it as good as others.

That opinion on the memory is BS, HLL is like a 40gb game on ps5 which is less than 1/10th of the lowest memory version of the console

Needs more buildings. I played for 4 games and by the time I was done I started to hate the color green.

Once you pointed out the asset faults they really stood out. Floor to ceiling windows in the 30's and 40's just wasn't a thing

Driel was made by black matter so it doesn't really translate over.
MAP LOOKS DOPE MAN!! Hopefully they do make some of those houses entrable and have some of the houses randomly have some more cover. They should have more logs on the ground or something for random cover in the forest areas. Looks sick honestly
This game is so poorly optimized on console and feels like shit. My jaw dropped when I learned it was on the Unreal engine. I love the game but it needs work on the console end.

the buildings should be enterable. all of them. memory excuses are bs, all the old maps have plenty of buildings you can enter. being a AAA dev now, they really should up their game. its turned in to an asset flip with lazy map makers.
Thats what happens when they drop blackmatter. That studio wasn’t the best in the world , but they sure knew how to build maps. Team17 does not at the same level. Sound design okay all day, but map design , mehhh…
everybody was flicking their beans when HLL got the big wig “developers” on board. but big wig developers only mean lazy design, lack of details and a buggy experience overall. they intentionally ruin games like this because there are no politics injected in them
The mg placement in hell let loose is the worst I have ever seen...on all maps. Frustrating and gets you killed easily. Mono raised it here,but this is a huge issue throughout.

there was 2 versions of that map "smdm" the old one before patch 7 i believe and after patch 7

It was the better version of that map, Lots of enterable buildings and the grass was nice but I hate the new version
