Thank you!
Firstly, thank you for the introduction to this company. Secondly, the way you tied in this book to the sponsor ad was GENIUS 🔥😂
It's easy for me to believe that Zeus would f*ck a tree.
I started sending photos of tree knots to my friend who read this and saying “I bet Zeus sees this and thinks to call her”
@@ReadswithRachel NEM FODENDO KKKKKKKKKKK
Those knots were asking for it.
He most certainly tried a few times
Literally the most in character thing for him to do. Him actually checking in on and helping one of his children was a bit weird though.
love the fact that the jokey door smut is still better at safe sex practices than most serious romance novels
this! love the author for taking safe sex seriously
It's the same as with Dr. Chuck Tingle, it takes more skill and thoughtfulness to make good comedy than to write drama.
11:31 "What kind of name is Tana Vent?"
The kind you make when you want a pun. Tana Vent, Vent Tana = Ventana = window. It's a story about a door banging a window!! I cant even
WOW that went RIGHT the heck over my head and now... i actually gotta give even more props to the author.
Can you explain in bad at understanding puns 😭
@@brittanydeluca1199 "Ventana" means window in Spanish; Ventana, Vent Tana, Tana Vent.
Tana Vent means window if you put that thang down flip it and reverse it

For anyone curious, there is actually an audiobook with sound effects and I can never look at a door the same again 🤣
😮😮😮😮😮OMG
I shoulda done the audio!!!
@@ReadswithRachel I listened to it at work and it was an ✨experience✨ lol. I had to try and keep my cackling to a minimum so people didn't think I was crazy 🤣
I did that once and burst out laughing right when I walked into a Walmart like I had an imaginary friend.
@@ReadswithRachel It's short, and totes worth it. 1 hr 57 mins, and there are credits to Richard Pendragon's door for any dor sound effects.
AO3 figured out the trigger warning spoiler problem years ago. You just put the trigger warnings at the end and tell the reader where to find it in the beginning. Then people can decide if they need to look at it or not.
It can also be easy on YT too if people throw up a screen with a general CW and saying to check the About section for a full list of TWs
Ao3 also very explicitly has an option to opt out of the warning system entirely. I think the choice not to give content warnings is a valid one and it is in itself a warning. There have always been options for people who want to know if a given work has material that would trigger them specifically. The DoesTheDogDie website exists for precisely this reason.
You were raised intentionally ignorant, you aren't stupid. I will die on this hill. You are constantly striving to educate yourself and make up the gaps in your knowledge. I only like a week ago learned that "rizz" comes from charisma, it was so obvious once pointed out, but I didn't make the connection. We all have our moments. 💜💜💜💜💜
One hundred thousand percent yes to all of this comment!
RIZZ COMES FROM CHARISMA?! Why did nobody tell me this?? I'm old.
@@silversmoke6i legit did not know thats where riz came from until i read this comment 💀but now it feels so obvious lol
After quite a few years as a college/uni professor, including some incredible gigs working with older adult students who had often been told earlier on they "weren't college material," I concluded that the only stupidity is the decision to stop learning. And "learning" in this context goes way beyond formal schooling. If you're still asking questions and willing to reconsider your assumptions when new data come in, that's flat out incompatible with stupidity. It's the polar opposite.
In short, agreed.
Holy shit. It makes so much sense now but I never made the connection until you pointed it out. “Rizz” comes from charisma!! I guess you really do learn something new every day
As a Greek mythology girlie this is the best Zeus I’ve seen in modern fiction in awhile. Also, the fucking a tree bit is actually a reference to real myth. Greek myth is wild.
Nothing beats pan basically being a goat and effing all the Shepard men for me
i'm just glad straight people can have a chuck tingle, too. good for her
It’s very Chuck tingle and I loved that
We just need a straight romance between a human man and an [insert absurd thing here] woman and the quartet is complete
@@emitheorbit1118 please tell me about the lesbian chuck tingle implied by the "quartet" bit
As someone who’s on the ace spectrum and usually points and laughs at every erotic scene I end up reading in fiction, this soooo up my alley. Like FINALLY, a genre of fiction where I know the erotica was written goofy on purpose. I love campy stuff like this!!
same - Im aroace and most romance/smut scenes make me roll my eyes and skip it but hilarious on purpose sex scenes/pairings are so funny.
@@lagggoat7170ace people get on my nerves sometimes. I don’t roll my eyes at people when they decide to not have sex. You all letting your disdain be known for what is a natural hormonally driven and healthy act for the majority of the population is kind of distasteful if you ask me. Like what are you rolling you eyes at? People fck. Get over it
@@Nothereforit174 I like to laugh at the goofiness of written erotica, not actual people having sex in real life. No one said anything about making fun of real people. Even non-asexuals laugh at erotica and just because someone identifies as asexual does not mean they do not experience arousal or do not participate in sex. You clearly have a negative bias and it’s showing. No one said anything about you. Get over yourself.
@Nothereforit174 shitting is also a natural and healthy process. would you like to read about it in detail in every piece of fiction you read?
@@Nothereforit174 we’re talking about fiction here, not real people. no one said anything about having disdain for people who have sex in real life. I find most erotic scenes in fiction to be clunky and funny, that’s all that was said here. You’re acting like asexual people aren’t already well aware that sex is a normal healthy thing. You realize ace ppl can experience arousal and also have sex, right? Like we’re talking about fiction here. We’re laughing at the way fiction portrays sex. If you’re going to get offended on behalf of all allosexuals bc a couple of asexual think fictional erotica is funny, then you clearly have a negative bias. Get over yourself.
At least the door didn't try to stalk her, SA her, gas light her or some other abusive tactic. Door was all right. 👍
Wasn't for me and I'd never read it but three cheers for a positive sexual interaction with a door (what a strange sentence..)
Okay, look. I can't say this book is really my thing. I can't say my feelings towards my door have changed one way or the other. But tbh I respect the hell out of the creativity of writing an entire novella from the perspective of a DOOR. Like, why the hell not? I'm glad this exists. It's not often nowadays when you read a novel/la and think "Well THAT'S something I haven't seen before" and I respect it when I do see it, no matter how silly.
I think if you watch the video the whole way through you’ll see that I mostly agree
@@ReadswithRachel I'm still watching! Enjoying the review :)
The sequel to this should probably be called "I A-Door You."
a-door-able title
honestly, as a reader and author, i say ALL THE DAMN TIME that people can write about ANYTHING. Like there is no limit except the imagination. Not enough people use it. Hollywood, take notes. When god closes a door, find a way to fuck it.
Btw yes this video got ads limited by RUclips because they apparently take issue with spicy doors
😂 that's where they draw the line!!
I didn't get any ads. )-:
@@spaceorc1397yeah that tracks lol they’re like “you’re not getting away with this one!”
Yet, they allow MANY actual problematic creators/video content to be promoted and monetized

When an enchanted door is more considerate than the average "romance genre" male love internet. The bar is in literal hell
ikr!
As a fanfiction writer and reader, it’s pretty much standard practice amongst fanfic writers to put in content warnings even if the list is short. It’s both to provide a trigger warning and to give a general idea of what the reader is getting into so they don’t waste their time if the themes present are things they don’t want to read. It really only takes a few minutes to come up with warnings, and I know as a reader I personally appreciate them. Besides, there’s always the option NOT to read the warnings if you don’t want “spoilers”.
I can’t believe this book has actual lore, the door is a dryad born from Zeus?? 😭
I hate how it managed to convince me that this plotline makes sense
But, when I was thinking that I wanted to read more fun mythology stories involving dryads, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind
Authors that reject or even argue against trigger warnings are douche bags, plain and simple. It's basic not wanting to negatively affect others and do easy things to avoid it
You think someone who writes characters could understand empathy.
Empathy aside (since it's just the truth that upsetting readers unnecessarily is a bad thing), it doesn't even make sense from the 'spoilers' angle I've seen some people use to argue against it; it's no indication of how it's involved in the book's plot (which...I'm not going to get into it but it does seem to be a common argument amongst authors who may use those things as shock value)
I do not have triggers, so I just don't read the trigger warnings. I feel like a mastermind because I was able to come up with that extremely intelligent strategy. /s
@@gggthsb you know the human mind comes up with solutions to the biggest problems 😁
Not to mention you can just simply ignore/not read the triggers if you don't want to read them. I generally skip over them and if i get triggered, I set the book down for a while. It's a personal choice that the reader should be given a chance to make.
The author MISSED OUT on such a perfect name for this demi-god door-man.
Edit to add: This reminds me of Ice Planet Barbarians, it doesn’t take itself seriously and is all the better for it.
This! This did exactly what it set out to do
Yes about the childishness! People know age gaps can be problematic but it’s about experience too. It makes me so uncomfortable.
And I think age *play* is fine between consenting and informed adults but this isn’t age play he is lacking in knowledge in a way an actual youngster is and I felt like we coulda cut that out
@wormie1312I think you touched on something we don’t get at enough in our culture that is both oddly sex obsessed but not educational about the sex. Can a naive person really give fully informed consent? Because that’s what really matters. There are people who are more childlike than others. Either because they don’t understand sex fully or it could also be their way of existing. I’ll admit I’m a bit more childlike myself since I have adhd. That’s just probably always going to be my demeanor. I recall getting to the point where my state said I could consent to sex and having had a health class that essentially said don’t do it....but not knowing how sex worked still. So legally I could give consent. But I would’ve had no idea wtf was going on if I just agreed to it one day with some cute guy, and the older ones at my school were quite pushy tbh. Maybe both the law and our books should prod that subject a bit. What happens when you aren’t educated on sex and then put into sexual situations? Can you even really be considered consenting? I think the law needs to change. Not to condemn anyone necessarily, that’s not the focus, but to make sure it’s a priority that people understand what’s happening before they engage. Understand their rights of autonomy. And as a bonus I hope it’s normalized to discuss what someone needs after and what they expect from it because it shouldn’t still be a thing where men can have sex (I only single them out based on who reports doing this the most) with women on the premise of wanting something serious, only to dump them after because that’s changing their consent if they do it knowing the answer would be no more often if they were honest. Sex laws and ideas about sexual encounters just need a lot of revamping
The trope for this is "born sexy yesterday"! Think Leeloo from the 5th Element... It's pretty gross and feels icky, even if the character is *technically* an adult
Why is this weirdly cute?
Edit: it also reminds me of this DND character concept where a chair is true polymorphed into a person
This is what happens when the party finds a locked door in the dungeon and the Bard asks the DM "Can I romance the door?"
Why is your family coming in and you becoming awkward my favorite part of this?
That portrayal of Zeus and Hera does in fact line up. 🫶🏻💗
Also pun humor is my favorite and this sounds hilarious. Asexual or not. 😂
I gave it 3 stars. I read it expecting door smut, and I got door smut. Can’t argue with that. 😂
Gave it a 2.5! feel the same
Didn't know Chuck Tingle had a sister, but cool!
Door logistics. I'm dying. I'm glad you said it, because that is definitely a thing I wondered, having heard of this book, but not having read it.

I could rant about CWs and TWs ALL DAY. Just this week I got into another author argument about them. Whenever someone proudly says they won't do trigger warnings, I think, "Tell me you hate your readers without telling me you hate your readers."
I hate spoilers with a passion, but I care about giving TWs because I've triggered myself with my own writing before (a car accident in one of the books that I wrote before my brother died in one). Being accutely aware of how my writing has the potential to harm people, which I would never want to do, this is the system I use to give TWs without giving spoilers to people who don't want them. I'll use Gabriel's Album as an example.
*At the beginning of the book (set as a prologue so it should open to it automatically and not be skipped like the other front matter), it says:*
Content warning
This book contains adult themes and is intended for a mature audience. If you wish to read the specific trigger warning for this book, please click here.
For a list of sensitive topics in this book, please click here. (In the physical book this says turn to page 383).
*That takes them to a page at the back of the book that says:*
Gabriel’s Album contains scenes of suicidal ideation. If this is triggering for you, please click this link for information about the chapter it’s contained in.
For a list of sensitive topics in this book, please click here.
To return to the beginning of the book, please click here.
*If they click, it takes them to a page that says:*
Trigger warning - Part I
Gabriel’s Album contains scenes of suicidal ideation. If this is triggering for you, please click this link for information about the chapter it’s contained in.
For a list of sensitive topics in this book, please click here.
To return to the beginning of the book, please click here.
*The final part of the TW is a page that says:*
Trigger warning - Part II
The scene of suicidal ideation is contained near the end of chapter 18. Stop reading at the line:
“We arrive at a luxury hotel in Seattle, I don’t know which one, and I don’t care.”
You can then either skip to chapter 19 or continue reading from the line:
“We travel to a restaurant in Seattle that Hayden tells us is amazing and we sit and talk after we order our food.”
There are further references to Gabriel’s previous mental state in chapter 19 when Sebastian takes him into another room to discuss recording the album.
At this point, Gabriel is in a better mental state, however, and no discussion about his specific suicidal ideation is contained in this chapter.
For a list of sensitive topics in this book, please click here.
To return to the beginning of the book, please click here.
*The list of sensitive topics says:*
List of Sensitive Topics
Please find below a list of possible sensitive topics in this book:
Anxiety - Ariana suffers from anxiety throughout most of the book. She does seek treatment.
Depression - Gabriel suffers a very severe depression from chapter 15-19.
Misogyny - Sebastian is a misogynistic character by design as part of his character arc throughout the series.
Suicidal Ideation - Please see the trigger warning for this information.
To return to the beginning of the book, please click here.
*****
I do this for all of my books. This way, only the people who have triggers will click through and receive the warning, then only those with that specific trigger will go on to read the actual warning. The list of sensitive topics is everything from book trigger warnings dot com that is in the book, but not in such a way that it's as emotional as the actual triggers. In some books I have things that are a trigger warning in another book that are only sensitive topics in one of my other books and vice versa.
TL;DR Authors who refuse to put TWs in their books because they're "spoilers" are actively ignoring the harm their writing can cause and the easy way they could give the TWs without giving spoilers to those who don't want them.
if TW are good enough for fanfic and films, it's good enough for profic.
considering what I write about, I'd be horrified if someone inadvertently came across something distressing to them.
I think it depends on the triggers. Like in my worst ED days I searched for books and documentaries that were considered triggering (reading reviews continuing watching after trigger warnings and so on). And that wasn't only something I did.
But for most triggers I absolutely agree with you.
As someone who isn’t triggered by much but has friends who have had traumatic experiences, I’m the one who reads through stuff to make sure there’s nothing in there that could trigger them. Just yesterday I was reading a book and a sexual assault happened out of nowhere. My friends were very grateful for the warning. Make TWs/CWs NORMAL.
@@mein_aliasthat’s you self harming. The rest of us still need it if we struggle with an ED. Someone will always abuse something(glad you’re past it and I hope you stay strong), but that doesn’t mean we stop it. Besides you could’ve easily read a book about ED as the main topic if you wanted to be triggered that bad so taking it out wouldn’t do anything but surprise someone trying to protect themselves and who isn’t looking for danger imo
To me, he doesn’t seem infantilized, he seems like he has himbo energy.
Also, as a Greek Mythology girlie, everything in this video checks out. I’ll read the book and report back.
I'd have to disagree. He knows what orange juice is, what drugs are, but he doesn't understand what a vibrator or orgasm is. It's very internally inconsistent and seems especially sexually infantilizing.

I honestly loved this book and bought it for one of my partners because they needed to experience it with me. Vera knows what she is doing. I also read the balloon animal omegaverse books which were... less good lol but you cannot say the woman is not creative

"If knobs are your thing" LMFAO RACHEL
EVERYBODY'S DIFFERENT OKAY I didn't wanna leave out the knob lovers lmao
The weird thing is this is NOT the first spicy door media I've read. Around a decade ago I came across scans from an erotic manga where several front doors along a street were represented by women embedded in them in different ways with their locks being...well, what you think they are. But this was a humorous manga as well! All the doors end up in weird situations like a thief trying to break in, someone getting their fingers stuck in a lock, etc. while their residents are gone and it's just total pandemonium.
Props to Vera Valentine for doing the research and getting the type of tree right, oaks were sacred to Zeus! He was perpetually horny too so fathering children with Dryads via an attractive wood knot tracks. I'd honestly like to read more of her Greek myth takes, I enjoy the idea of Zeus making amends to Hera by helping people get into long-term relationships since Hera holds dominion over marriage and family.
Oh, and if it's spelled "Dreas" like I'm thinking it's short for "Andreas" which is Greek for "manly and strong"
It's spelled Drys, I think referencing his Dryad heritage.
I cracked up when Carlos walked in and asked you about the toys.
Not this silly novella having better world-building and being better thought-out than 99% of trad-pub Greek mythology romantasy books 😂
Also the "I fucked a tree" is 100% on-brand for Zeus, and I love that Hera is taking care of his wayward children (even if they are doors) and that Zeus is implied to have this covert network of demigod children who all look out for each other. I'm honestly impressed!
Ok, I lost it at "No, you can request more out of any man, even if he used to be a door" haha
I stand by it hahaha
Omg I genuinely really enjoyed this book bc it made me laugh the entire way through and I thought the door was a peach 😂

That was the first one of the two times I had to pause the video to keel over laughing. The second time was about getting knocked up with little trap doors!
I first heard about this book on one of my favorite romance book pages on IG. I was curious because I thought even if it totally sucked it takes some real balls (pardon the pun) to write an erotic story about sex with a door. I, like you, was pleasantly surprised. I think you are fantastic for reviewing this with an open mind, giving the writer props where deserved and still laughing and enjoying your read. You are a class act and you have such a wonderful laugh. Thanks for having fun with this and making me laugh too❤
I'm not on TikTok, so hadn't heard of this, but am so amused by your retelling.
thank you friend
this has chuck tingle vibes in the best way
This is infinitely more romantic than anything CoHo has EVER written
Oh my god, this one!!! So is that why Aunt Clara loves doorknobs so much?. Edit: I regret my brain to keyboard pipeline.
I just had to get my front door’s entire knob/bolt/lock system replaced recently and I couldn’t stop thinking about the logistics of the anatomy in that case. Also thinking about every time the old door knob fell off that it was like my door’s you-know-what falling off and I’d have to screw it back on again. (But not THAT kind of screwing…)
RANDALL?! LIKE FROM MONSTERS INC?! WHICH HAS DOORS???! I’ve connected the dots
I say this every time authors or readers complain about spoilers through trigger warnings: they’re just like rating for movies and tv. Movies will tell you why it’s rated PG-13 (violence, sexual content, etc). And that doesn’t spoil anything!!
I loved this (your video, not the book, I haven't read it). I'm not an expert in greek mythology, but I've read some and this would make sense. It actually made me so happy that there was a semi-plausible back-story to this, I didn't think it was possible. Kudos to the author.
I can’t 😂 you are having waayyy too much fun with that bo burn ham clip and with the kronk clips in the last video I’m in SPLITS why is this so funny to me 😂
That TW list reads like an AO3 taglist. 😂
love the author for that
this book made me think of the Spongebob quote that licking doorknobs on other planets is illegal.
Vera has also written Kool-Aid Man romance, a balloon animal omegaverse tale, as well as this door romance.
I found a new favourite author 😭🤣
I actually stopped your review to go read this book cause I didn’t want spoilers. Of all the books I’ve watched you review/rant about, I picked this one. 🤣 Now I’m back and wow. There were door banging noises in the audiobook during the first intimate scene. 😭 Also what sounded like a door stopper spring…boinging aggressively, is the only way I can put it. Those were the only sound effects. 🤷🏾♀️ I wanted to curl up and die. 😭💀 But I would say this is better written than acotar. I wasn’t annoyed by the characters or the prose, I was too busy lmao/cringing at door puns.
You put words to how I was feeling about Drys. Side-note: he got the name from her watching a superhero movie with Idris Elba and thinking he’s hot. Which, I agree but also Dorian is right there!! Or Woodrow?🤣 Anyway, he is a sweetie but he’s also a bit infantilized. And sure he wants to clean and do her laundry and he picked up a job application unprompted but being nice and having a job is the bare minimum even if you used to be a door. Overall though, the book wasn’t bad. Thanks for another great review!
As a Dorian, sometimes called Dor by my friends (never been too fond of that abbreviation but I don’t particularly care one way or another), your suggestion of “Dorian” for the door absolutely took me out. It’s also a name ultimately derived from Greek (the Dorians were one of the four original ethnic groups of Ancient Greece) so it would have worked even better…
That title is hilarious
Rachel watching OSP has the same vibes as when your two favourite TV shows as a kid did a crossover episode
omg remember when sabrina and boy meets world crossed over?!
Every time Carlos interrupted you I CACKLED 🤣
I love Vera's balloon shifter series, you should check them out lolol
Surprisingly i feel like i would enjoy this, not for the spicy content but it would be hilarious to read.
the fact that its from the door's pov makes this worth a read for me ngl
The only flaw I can see in relation to the Greek myth is that Hera notoriously despised all of the women (and objects) Zeus boned. Hera went out of her way to inconvenience them and their children, preferably to their death if she could.
That makes sense!
It's 7 am for me, this building has thin walls and I'm trying not to cackle while watching this video. I think I need to buy this just to support the author for providing so much fun via this video 😂
in the midst of writing my first novel (been working on it since august last year and just got out of the research and planning stage!) and i found your channel, it makes me feel a lot better about my writing because if some of these books can get published and popular then so can mine damnit! i genuinely love your content so much :)))

What a treat! Thank you for this wonderful video.
As a former greek mythology beastie, the only inaccurate thing to me was how Hera was such a force for good in the story, which isn't always the case when it's between her and Zeus's victims/offspring. (I could be wrong, though, it's been a couple decades since i went through that phase)
nah hera is usually jealous and petty. if anything she'd find some way to torment that poor door
Don't think I'll read it but good for Vera Valentine for having a camp old time with this 😂
Embarrassing for the big name romantasy authors being outdone on tw/cw, consent, sexual health, and healthy relationship dynamics by a shits & giggles door smut novella tho
ikr on the second part! I do want to read it though!
Unironically love this author just for all this
We have tag teamed this door 🚪
You kept a straight face with the deadbolt. Impressed.
I did not keep a straight face.
every time the WHICH DOOR sound came up i WHEEZE too hard i think i lost some brain cells 😭😂
Overly sarcastic is BEST place to learn things. Glad they can be helpful and hope you enjoy all the different myths!
Overly Sarcastic Productions has been one of my comfort shows for years!! Love the shout out from one of my other comfort channels, thank you for the truly unhinged video 😂❤️
You and Carlos are so damned cute, I had to laugh.
yayy ure watching overlysarcastic!! im obssessed with their journey to the west playlist and the 3 live readings of dracula 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️ same with the videos that summarise famous books
i constantly re-listen to them and re-pause all ghe way through to see all the jokes Red drew out
i hope u enjoy their channel, in recent years they have made sure their content is well sourced, since some uni profs use it for classes, so u can really appreciate the amount of research that went to contribute to the silliness, and accessibility to knowledge
*sees title* bruh Booktok will read amything if it’s spicy I swear to God
The fact that ive seen people object more to monster fucking like bruh
I can see the attraction for like a buff mothman or something but a door is down so goddamn bad
Why do I do this to myself!? Here I am once again, trying to paint my nails and listen to videos and I can't see what I'm doing bc I'm laughing too hard 💅🤣💦
