Will the Gen V episodes be edited down with clips like your other RUclips reactions? Or will they be full "watch along" videos where we would sync up a copy of the show with your video?

It's his dad protecting him. At first he thought his dad hated him and was mad at him for Becca but when he learns he's not mad and actually defends him multiple times you can see why Ryan is warming up to him.

44:34 Ryan's upriging despite being better than Homelander's doesn't seem to be doing much for him in terms of preventing him ending like him. Mentally he's like a toddler, and only cares about what he likes, his seems very undeveloped emotionally, might not be bad on itself but allied with how he was thaught to depend on adults(to control him) that lefts him wide open for anyone to manipulate him and shape him. And right now Homelander is filling all the good roles an adult should have on a kid, on Ryan's view. He's giving love and care, he's not casting fear, he encourages him using his powers and can relate directly to him since they have the same powers.

    Gen V was surprisingly good.

I get Ryan's swing. Isolated his whole life, Butcher who was only a moment of a father figure threw him away (to try and save him) after his mother died before him. He has powers and Homelander is his real father and is showing him attention and 'love' as well as showing him he can get what he wants. It is surprising he didn't start killing people around him before homelander took him away.

Also Homelander actually understands and relates to Ryan and has defended him from danger multiple times

One might say Homelander has the best supporters.... he could walk out on Fifth Ave and laser someone to death, and not lose supporters lol.... ; )

I'm so glad you guys have done all the episodes. Gen V is 100% necessary to see before Season 4. Shame you're not putting them on YT though.

      Its not that necessary really

Not 100% necessary but it does add a lot to the universe. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Honestly I went in with low expectations.

What's not to get about Ryan?
Becca's LOVE was the only thing holding Ryan's anger at bay. After her death, he was desperate for basic acceptance of himself and his powers. It makes perfect sense that John a.k.a. The Homelander was able to groom him after all the turmoil.

And that fool Butcher made that easy for Homelander when he pushed him away.

The arc itself is logical and believable. But to be fair, it did happen vey quickly (at least what we were shown) so it would be better to get some more screen time of a scene or two dedicated to Ryan slowly being more afraid, alone...whatever that pushes him into the arms of H.

And tbh going from essentially being a slave and having to deny what he is to someone that accepts him for everything, mistakes and all, plus defends him constantly from danger and it's easy to understand Ryan

I dont think Ryan’s ending this season is surprising at all. Ryan was only a “good” kid because he lived in isolation with his mom who was raising him to be well mannered. But can you really say that someone is a good person if they’ve lived their entire life in a bubble and have never been challenged to be anything else? Ryan had no idea what is and isn’t acceptable in the real world. And in his first exposure to the real world and real people the first thing he witnesses is that his new role model is able to do whatever he wants and get away with it. Which reinforces everything homelander has been telling him since season 2. So now that is the view that he frames the world in. He and his father are superior and can do whatever they want without consequence. I think that path for his character arc makes sense and it also makes him even more terrifying than homelander. Especially considering that it has been hinted he has the potential to be even more powerful

So much generational trauma all around. It's an interesting look at cycles of abuse and toxic father figures. I wonder where they'll take Ryan's story next season.
And A-Train's journey will be interesting to see too, now that he's lost the one person who actually cares for him.

I think it was not so much Ryan excited about Homelander killing someone as him realizing that his Dad could do something bad with his powers and people would still love him. That his powers could cause something bad and he would still have love

Well, it serves A-Train right. That's what he gets for trashing his own heart with Compound V. Plus, it works out good for A-Train, since he will get everything he lost back anyway, at the expense of losing his brother's respect.

This is one of Homelanders BEST episodes...He truly shows he's a better father than Butcher & Soldier boy for sure (So willing to kill his own son over being emotional & repeating history just like his own father did to him. Then on top of that, he's more than willing to kill his own grandson for nothing.)
Ryan defended his dad that's it. Homelander may not be the best role model but niether is Butcher, at least Homelander truly loves his son for him. Homelander genuinely wants better for Ryan and best of all, Ryan brings out Homelanders humanity more & shows his vunerable side often. Anthony's definitely deserves an oscar for his portrayal of The Homelander. Homelander never had any parents or unconditional love, yet he still found the best words for his son at the start of this episode, putting Butcher & Soldier boy to shame, since they at least had a childhood in society & had at least one loving parent & or siblings. Homelander had scientists and his Supe side of himself to raise him & only a lab as a kid.
Even the Noir situation & scenes with Homelander were up there. As much as i wanted them to remain a team, i also understood and saw how crushed and betrayed Homelander was over Noirs betrayal, even killing him hurt him too. Homelander & Noir were true friends, Homelander trusted him always. Also sad and beautiful that unlike Soldier boy, Homelander valued Noir on the seven & never had a bad word to say about his work "Not you Noir, you've been great"...Noir was worth more than the rest of his team, like he said this episode. Shame since Noir was probably protecting Homelander from Soldier boys influence back then too & loved Homelander, he finally had the praise & leader he wanted who wouldn't prevent him from bettering himself.
Anthony Starr is an amazing actor & star of the show. Homelander has showed his vunerable side and love for his son clearly again. Homelander genuinely wanted a family, thats the one big thing hes always been desperate for. Ryan is his only weakness and Homelander was completely genuine & Ryan saw that and heard the words a real father would say. If this is anyone's fault now, it's Butcher's for saying those things to Ryan and then leaving him. Homelander love his son, Butcher love Becca & his wife son bcuz of her. U can see that this episode and in the last season. Solider boy is worse than both it turns out.

"I could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and not lose any support!"
If it wasn't obvious by now, yes, Homelander has always been a Donald Trump analogue.
