Road Warrior since it's the one I grew up with, then Thunderdome and Fury Road. Lastly the first one because I didn't watch that one first. I fell in love with Road Warrior!
Road warrior. Grew up with it but always loved narrator reveal and max standing there beat up as they drive away (edit: I love the junkie xl soundtrack though he rocks one of my favorite composers)
Don't worry about continuity in the series. Miller's approach is folkloric, in which details are mutable, but the essential truths of the story are maintained. It's like a cinematic oral history of the wasteland.
Yeah the explanation I saw was that "mad max" is several different people, he is inserted into stories to replace the main character in the retelling of the story 100 years later.
there's a steven soderbergh quote that i always felt summed up the achievement of fury road, a film that actually gets more mind-boggling the more you read about how it was made: "I just watched Mad Max: Fury Road again last week, and I tell you I couldn’t direct 30 seconds of that. I’d put a gun in my mouth. I don’t understand how [George Miller] does that, I really don’t, and it’s my job to understand it. I don’t understand two things: I don’t understand how they’re not still shooting that film and I don’t understand how hundreds of people aren’t dead."
Watching this movie in the theater I had my first ever experience of being "overcome with emotion". I sat in awe the entire movie and at moments was blown away, but the scene where they drive into the sandstorm is still to this day the most beautiful and stunning thing I have ever experienced. I was literally moved to tears because what I was seeing was so unbelievable. I will never forget this movie and it is in my top 5 (if not top 2) favorite movies of all time!
Watching this in the theater was amazing. First time I saw it I was so exhausted by the time it got out in the best way possible. I wanted to walk right back in and see it again. Then I got to see it a few years later in the Chrome Edition in theaters, driving back home around 75mph on a highway was one of the most unique experiences driving I ever had being full of adrenaline from the movie.
8:30 i love the spikes/buzzers tribe. The way their weaponry has obviously been developed in response to Immortan's forces is such a nuanced and amazing detail.
Fun Fact: this film was edited by Margaret Sixel, who is the wife of the director George Miller. She had never edited anything like this before and when he was asked why he chose his wife to edit it, he said if you don't want your film to look like everybody else's, you get someone to edit it that hasn't made anything like this before.
I grew up on Mad Max in the eighties and I was a wee bit sceptic to all this "Fury Road"-malarky. But when this movie feverishly sumersulted into my existence in the cinema, all that I could say was: What a day, what a lovely day!! This movie is edited to perfection!

Saw this opening night. I was like a little kid with a huge smile with all the crazy vehicles. They built all those vehicles for the film. The war rig is a character in its own right and the way the close up of the super charger “taking a breath” is just (chefs kiss) perfection.
The Mad Max franchise is not over. Furiosa is scheduled to come out next year and Mad Max: The Wasteland is in production with Tom Hardy coming back. Both movies directed by George Miller. Can't wait.
Yea but there has been so much drama surrounding it, especially between Miller and the studio from the first one. The actress they've casted for Furiosa has never done anything action before which adds to my skepticism. I guess we'll see.
I am very wary of prequels and have rather low expectations for Furiosa. Maybe it'll be good, but I'm skeptical. The Wasteland could work if it does something to distinguish itself from Fury Road.
@@gemelwalters2942personally, I'm psyched about Furiosa. Anya Taylor Joy has been good in everything she has been in, including Northman, which has action scenes.

I want to have faith in George so hopefully the next trailer is better, otherwise I might be skipping this one. Best Mad Max movie, Fury Road has the best-acted scenes, writing, cinematography, score, characters, sound effects, etc. Watching this movie on IMAX was one of the best theaters experience.
Having seen all the previous films, I can say with ease that this is best entry. It just hits all the right spots. Its just a long cr chase. We needed this salve after years and years of sub par superhero movies.
I think this might be my favorite Mad Max film but I did watch The Road Warrior a ton when I was a teen. The prequel to this, called Furiosa, was supposed to be released this past summer but was pushed to May 24th, 2024.
This last movie out striped them all production wise but then they had the budget to do that with. It's a feast of action, adventure, stunts and props, but my favorite one will always be the second Mad Max, the Road Warrior because it was the tale of redemption for Max, long before this one was created and it set the pace of absurdity even further which forced this one to top them all..
Fun Fact: Hugh Keays-Byrne(R.I.P.)who played Immortan Joe in this film played Toecutter in the first film so he was both the first Mad Max main villain and the last!
Max is punishing himself for not saving his family. That’s why he helps his friends escape their bad situations but he never stays with them after the fight. He has condemned himsrlf to exile in the wastelands forever.
There is another movie in the franchise but not following Max's journey. It will focus on a young Furiosa starring Anya Taylor Joy as the titular Furiosa.
Honestly, I think it would be really fun for you two to check out the 2015 game, just as a one-off. No need for a full playthrough. But just to compare it to the movies and explore the world, it's seriously and incredible game, and since you've watched all the movies I think you would really enjoy the experience. No one knows if this is a fourth movie in the same series and if so what order it falls in, a reboot, an alternate universe or what is it. Kinda the same with the last two. Are the pilot and the boy the same people from the second movie? Is Scrooloose a lost war boy? In Thunderdome Max almost seemed to recognize the pilot and him. Unfortunately this was mostly a Furiosa movie more than a Max movie. There is a Furiosa prequel coming. You said it yourself the first three movies are narrated by someone else. "And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed... men like Max... the warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything... and became a shell of a man... a burnt-out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland "And so began the journey north to safety, to our place in the sun. Among us we found a new leader: the man who came from the sky, the Gyro Captain. And just as Pappagallo had planned, we traveled far beyond the reach of men on machines. The juice, the precious juice was hidden in the vehicles. [fade to shot of the Feral Kid] As for me, I grew to manhood and in the fullness of time I became the leader, the Chief of the Great Northern Tribe. And the Road Warrior? That was the last we ever saw of him. He lives now only in my memories.' "Still in all, every night we does the tell, so that we 'member who we was and where we came from... but most of all we 'members the man that finded us, him that came the salvage. And we lights the city, not just for him, but for all of them that are still out there." So it's all possibly an unreliable narrator(s). Is Max just a legend to give hope? Are there Many Maxs and not just one? Has the story changed because it's been told many times as it was passed on?

You're confusing things for no reason at all. Fury Road was written as Mad Max 4, sequel to Beyond Thunderdome. It was going to star Mel Gibson - old Max. That didn't happen so they got a younger actor and called the same movie a 'soft reboot'. That's literally it. It still takes place after the 3rd movie. That's it. The Gyrocaptain and Jedediah are not the same character. Scrooloose is not a lost war boy. Just because all those movies are framed as stories told by someone else doesn't mean those movies make absolutely no sense at all. It's quite the contrary.

Just because all those movies are framed as stories told by someone else doesn't mean those movies make absolutely no sense at all. It's quite the contrary.
the actor who plays the role of immortal joe is a toe cutter
