I can certainly see why I would sometimes feel like a Philly cheesestake but other times want a shawarma. A cheesestake looks stout. Good for an evening meal or an "on the way home from the night life"snack. A shawarma is more of a lunch thing. It's a bit lighter and the middle eastern spices are a bit fresher than "cheddar and meat galore". Will certainly visit Assad the next time I'm in CPH.

Heard about cheese steak sandwiches often enough to be interested, so I went to Philly's (Nørrebro). I'm somewhere between underwhelmed and disappointed. There was so much stringcheese/nachocheese/spraycheese that I could taste nothing else. The bread came apart in my hands so I wound up with spraycheese all over my beard.
It may have been a fluke experience, but I'm not going back for seconds.

Very fun video to watch - especially when you were making the sandwiches, yum! Made my teeth water 😁
However, I do agree with Assad with the preference part. I think that because a shawarma/durum kebab is the standard fast food here along with McDonald's and pizzas, we'd probably miss the lettuce part. But it is interesting to see what Americans (or Philadelphians) would eat as a fast food/street food meal - which could also be a topic for another video! 😊

Hey guys - here is a suggestion to either or all (5) of you together. I dare you to take the "spiral-trip" in København. There are 3 Spirals to conquer. It's the beautiful/romantik one, the most historik one and the scary one. In increasing level of fearness: 1. the spiral stairs inside the palm house in Botanisk Have (1 up and 1 down) 2. Rundetårn (you can research which Danish King took the Tzar of Rusland in a coach to the top) 3. Go to "Vor Frelsers Kirke" on Christianshavn and take the 400 steps to the top (150 on the outside).
I really hope you will accept the challenge, and would love to hear your reactions. Greetings Niels.

I lived at south street in Philly for a while in 94, right on top of a cheese steak place. I often got my cheese steak, no onions, no tomatoes, just cheese meat and lettuce. Yum yum yum. Little did I know, that I would NEVER find such an amazing sandwich again anywhere :(
Tried many many places. But no.

I've had philly cheesesteak in a couple of places: Union Station in DC... pretty good. Pentagon City Mall... meh..
And of course in Philadelphia, just outside the "Liberty Bell" Museum (that's not eh name, bit I can't remember what it's called), and boy! Was that yummy or what!?!?
One thing they put in it that wasn't mentioned here: Bell peppers..

    • @RobeTrotting
      @RobeTrotting  3 года назад

Wow Frands, you've had your share of cheesesteaks - it's funny because every Philadelphian will gladly share their favorite cheesesteak place. For us, it's D'Alessandro's in Roxborough or Jay's Steak and Hoagie Joint in Langhorne (both pictured in the video).
The one near the Liberty Bell could be a few different ones... maybe Sonny's or Campo's. There's also a small food hall a block away with a cheesesteak place.

I've never had a Philly cheesesteak - and it probably wouldn't be my favourite anyway, but to each their own taste, right? But you got me googling that place, because... Well, they seem to have a good attitude and also, I saw this on their menu: "Crispy fried chicken burger"? If they do that well, then I need to go! A good fried chicken is hard to find... It is, I believe, one of US cooking's finest additions (though by no means the only) to the culinary world! Not fancy, not elaborate, but just really, really good.

The Beef and cheese we make here, is also not gonna be what your NOT used to from home 😄! I'd be VERY surprised if you found - something authentic - here in DK! Glad you liked it! And the bread is the hardest part. A good “hoagie” roll as we’d say needs to have a light and fluffy inside that it still strong enough to hold up the meat, and a crust that is soft but not flakey. Impossible to find in Denmark - if you go it Philly just ask for an Amoroso roll and you will get it exactly right !

I was a little disappointed.. cheesesteak.. Why do you not have more cheese in??
I am a self-proclaimed ostoman (cheese-o-man) addicted to cheese 😍🧀) So I had high expectations for what a sheesesteak is, and then there is almost no cheese in 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Why??? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

You should try D’Alessandro’s in Roxborough 🤤 although it’s not perfect, Philly’s has the closest sandwich we’ve tried in Denmark.

Philly Cheese Steaks would be great if it wasn't for the cheese that Americans put on eveything they eat. 😁😁😁

@@RobeTrotting And thats exactly the problem. When I eat at restaurants in USA, the sentence I use the most is No cheese, please. 😁
