Man, I remember when I first saw this. My brother-in-law had it on VHS at his place when he was dating my sister (I had to be 8 or 9). The 2nd time I watched it was with my dad and my brother, and my dad kept commenting on how they were driving the cars in the movie. Like the brakes locking up causing the tires to squeal and leave rubber behind, how the suspensions of the era caused the cars to bounce so much going over bumps, or that the Trans Am's back then didn't actually sound like that.
How about the music when he is pulling up to the traffic accident and junior has his hand on his hat. One cannot make this up. It's absolutely hilarious
The scene where he goes to pass the truck and gets hit by it could have been potentially dangerous, that must have been a stunt that was carefully rehearsed.
I think they also uses the technique of speeding up the film at times to make the cars look faster. Theres one scene where the trans am is driving with nothing else around that you can really see it though I dont know why that part was sped up
They must have had a couple cars with the top ripped off cause you can see one of them has the headlights broken and the one with the tow truck the headlights are fine.
Yeah when Buford is like can you stand up there and see where the hell he went his mirror is fine but when his roof is taken off and every over part his roof is of his mirror is broken apart from when his door gets ripped off
0:04 is somewhat inaccurate. How can a car like that rev that high? And it's at a slower speed yet sounds like wide-open throttle. And why it's more V8-like and way different in 0:15?
This was before they re-did the sound effects on the recent DVDs. This was the movie I grew up watching.

Acceptable margin probably required that the Tornio wagon was already 3/4 off the road but obscured by the Pontiac until it got close enough.

The car with intact lights and cut off roof has the rear roof pillars cut off quite a bit higher than the other car with broken headlights.
